NOTE:
BEFORE EXERCISING ON THE VERSACLIMBER,
READ THIS OPERATION MANUAL THOROUGHLY.
INSTRUCT OTHERS HOWTO USE THE MACHINE IN
ACCORDANCEWITH THE PROCEDURES OUTLINED
IN THIS MANUAL. ADDITIONAL MANUALS ARE
AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST FROM HEART RATE,
INC. BEFORE BEGINNING THIS OR ANY OTHER
EXERCISE PROGRAM, CONSULTYOUR PHYSICIAN.
THIS IS ESPECIALLYIMPORTANT FOR THOSE INDI-
VIDUALS OVERTHE AGE OF 30 AND THOSE WHO
HAVE KNOWN HEALTHPROBLEMS. HRI ASSUMES
NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR
PROPERTY DAMAGE SUSTAINEDBY OR THROUGH
THE USE OFTHE VERSACLIMBER.
DON’T CLIMBTOO FAST
Beginners should take a 4-6 inch stepat a gentle
pace.First time users of the VersaClimber have a
tendency to climb too fast and totake too long a
step.Until users become thoroughly familiar with
theVersaClimber, it is important to take short, slow
steps. To maintain a shock and trauma free motion,
it is mandatory not to“bottom out” or impact the
pedals atthe end of each stroke.
SELECTING EXERCISE TIME
If you arenot already warmed up, a warm up period
of atleast 5 to 10 minutes should be included
in eachVersaClimber workout. Taking a short
stepat a slow climbing speed during the warm
up period is the key to a greatworkout. The rst
time user can easily climb for15 to 20 minutes
byincluding a slow 5 minute warm up and a 3 to
5 minutecool down period. With repetitive use it
is possible tobuild up to longer climbs at higher
speeds.
NOTE:
TOMAINTAIN TRAUMA FREE MOTION, IT IS MANDATORYTHATYOU DO NOT, UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCES,“BOTTOM OUT”AT THE END OF EACH STROKE. ALSO, DO NOT HITTHE
STEP HEIGHT LIMITERSWHEN THEY ARE IN USE.

CALORIESBURNED ACTIVITY

Page1
Manyindividuals enjoy 60 minutes or more of
uninterruptedclimbing. After each workout, note
exercisetime, climbing speed and height climbed
forestablishing a goal for future sessions. Use
heart rate and perceivedexertion to determine
if youare at a comfortable exercise level.
Remember that workintensity and calor ie burn
rateis based on climbing speed. If the exercise
is toohard, slow down.
CALORIEBURN RATE
Fullbody climbing ranks highest in calories
burned eventhough climbing speed is slower
than other activities. Firsttime users often tr y
tomaintain the speed they use in other ac tivities
and tendto over exert themselves. New to cardio
climbing,I t is important
toremember that because VersaClimbing is a
totalbody climb against gravity, it is not
necessary to climb at a high rateof speed,
just take it slow.

STAIRSTEPPING
TheSM -M featuresa 1-20 inch step height. This
rangeof motion provides the ability to per form
variable heightand variable speed stair stepping
exercisesfor the lower body only. Thehand rails,
locatedabout waist high, are used to grasp and
thus stabilizethe upper body while stepping with
the legs only. The upper body is maintained in an
erect stationary position while the legs and hips
perform a lower body stepping exercise. The foot
strapsalso allow the user to per form a leg lift
exercisewhile stepping, not available on single
purpose steppers / steppingmachines.
By holding the hand rails in frontof you or to the
side of yourbody and stepping with legs only, the
buttocks, front and back of the thighs, calves, and
shins can achievea complete lower body aerobic
and strengthworkout. Stair stepping is recom-
mended forbeginners before they attempt a full
body climbing exerciseand can be per formedin
anymode of operation.
NOTE
WHENHOLDING THE SIDE HANDRAILS KEEP FINGERS AND
THUMBSON THE FOAM PADDING OFTHE HANDRAILS. DO NOT
GRASPOR EXTEND ANY PORTION OF THE HAND BEYOND THE
FLANGESOF THE MOVING HAND GRIPS. DO NOT HOLD ONTO
THEMAIN VERTICAL POST.

SM-Magnetic Resistance
USING MAGNETIC RESISTANCE
Beginners and individuals who aredeconditioned
mayuse the resistance to control their climbing
speed --byslowing the step speed down. The Mag-
netic controlk nob is locatedat the bottom of the
display.
Youcan use resistance in two ways:
SLOWERSTEP: Turn knob clock wise
FASTERSTEP: Turnknob counter clock wise
By turning the controlk nob “clock wise” will slow
downthe stepping speed when only your body
weightis applied. However, by forcing the push and
pull motion will createa harder work out. Beginners
use the increasedresistance to slow the stepping
speed with out forcingthe step down. This will
producea comfortable, less intense workout.
VersaClimberuses ecient magnetic resistance system. This form of resistance is created by using eddy
currentswhich is created by magnetics passing over a metal ywheel. The disc passes through the magnetic
eld causing non-friction resistance.Since sur faces neverphysically touch one another, the result is quiet,
smooth, zeromaintenance form of adjustable resistance.
Youcan create “zero”resistance workout by turning
the knob all theway “counterclock wise” . However,
byeliminating the tension the speed by which you
climb is also increased:more steps in same amount of
time.Beginners should take shor t (4-6 inch) slow
pacedsteps in order to maintain an easy going climb
rate.Conversely, if a more intense work out is desired,
stepfaster with longer stride.
Resistance rangesfrom 0 - 10. By default it star ts
atLevel 1. Level 0 can be selected by turning the
resistnacek nob counterclock wise.At any time,
quickly return to Level1 by pushing the center
buttonof the resistance knob.

CONTRA LATERALMOVEMENT PATTERN or “RUNNING MOTION”
The SM-MVersaClimber comes with contra lateral movement pattern. This benecial “running
motion”or “primal movement”provides a unique alternative to the standard “climbpattern”.
A running motion is produced as the arm and leg approacheach other on one side of body while the
opposite arm and leg seperate on the other side.
