1. Introduction
To all residents of the European Union
Important environmental information about this product
This symbol on the device or the package indicates that disposal of the device after its
lifecycle could harm the environment. Do not dispose of the unit (or batteries) as unsorted
municipal waste; it should be taken to a specialized company for recycling. This device
should be returned to your distributor or to a local recycling service. Respect the local
environmental rules.
If in doubt, contact your local waste disposal authorities.
Thank you for choosing VELLEMAN®! Please read the manual thoroughly before bringing this device
into service. If the device was damaged in transit, don't install or use it and contact your dealer. Refer
to the Velleman®Service and Quality Warranty on the final pages of this manual. Your
VDLPROM9 should contain a 20 W strobe, a mirror ball with fixation cone and built-in DC motor, a
PAR36 pin spot with mounting bracket and base, a PAR36 lamp, 4 colour filters and this manual.
2. Safety Instructions
•Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty
and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.
•A qualified technician should install and service this device.
•Do not switch the device on immediately after it has been exposed to changes in temperature.
Protect the device against damage by leaving it switched off until it has reached room
temperature.
•Parts of the VDLPROM9 fall under protection class II and are double insulated. Other parts fall
under protection class I. It is therefore essential that these parts be earthed. Have a qualified
person carry out the electric connection.
•Make sure that the available voltage equals the voltage stated in the specifications of this
manual.
•Do not crimp the power cord and protect it against damage.
•If the external flexible cord of the luminaire is damaged, it shall exclusively be replaced by the
manufacturer, his service agent or a similar qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
•Disconnect the device from the mains to clean it or when it is not in use. Handle the power cord
by the plug only.
•There may be some smoke or a particular smell when the device is activated for the first time.
This is normal and any smoke or smell will gradually disappear.
•Do not look directly at the light source as sensitive people may go into epileptic seizure if they do.
•Keep the device away from splashing and dripping liquids. Never put objects filled with liquid on
top of the device.
•Note that damage caused by user modifications to the device is not covered by the warranty.
•Keep the device away from children and unauthorised users.
Be very careful during the installation: touching live wires can cause life-threatening
electroshocks.
Do not touch the device during operation as the housing heats up.
Keep this device away from rain and moisture.
Unplug the mains lead before opening the housing.

3. General Guidelines
•This kit is designed for use on stage, in discos, theatres, at home, etc. The VDLPROM9 should
only be used indoors and connected to an alternating current of 230 VAC/50 Hz.
•Lighting effects are not designed for permanent operation: regular operation breaks will prolong
their lives.
•Do not shake a device. Avoid brute force when installing or operating the device.
•Select a location where the device is protected against extreme heat (see “Technical
Specifications”), dust and moisture. Respect a minimum distance of 0.5 m between the device’s
light output and any illuminated surface.
•Use an appropriate safety cable to fix the PAR light (e.g. VDLSC7 or VDLSC8). The mirror ball
should be secured with a safety net.
•Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it. Do not allow
operation by unqualified people. Any damage that may occur will most probably be due to
unprofessional use of the device.
•Use the original packaging if the device is to be transported.
•All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons.
•Only use the device for its intended purpose. All other uses may lead to short circuits, burns,
electroshocks, crash, etc. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the warranty.
4. Installation
a)Installing or Replacing a Bulb
•Only fit or replace a lamp when the device is unplugged from the mains.
•Let a lamp cool down before replacing it as the temperature of a lamp can reach 150°C during
operation.
•When handling a halogen lamp, do not touch it with your bare hands. Use a cloth to insert or
remove it.
•Do not install lamps with a higher wattage than what this device was designed for.
•Replace any deformed or damaged lamp with a lamp of the same type (see “Technical
Specifications”):
1. Unscrew the front ring holding the bulb into place.
2. Carefully remove the old bulb and unscrew the wires from the light.
3. Fasten the wires of the new bulb and insert the bulb into the light. Add a colour filter if
needed (see below) and fix it by fastening the fixation ring.
b)Changing the Colour Filter
•This kit includes 4 colour filters. By changing the filter you decide of the colour to be projected.
•Let a lamp cool down before replacing the filter as the temperature of a lamp can reach 150°C
during operation.
1. Unscrew the front ring holding the filter into place.
2. Remove the old filter and insert a new one.
3. Fasten the fixation ring.
c) Mounting the PAR36 Light
•Have the light installed by a qualified person, respecting EN 60598-2-17 and all other applicable
norms.
•The PAR36 light can be placed on the floor or on a table using the round surface plate. It can also
be mounted on the ceiling using the bracket.
•The carrying construction must be able to support 10 times the weight of the device for 1 hour
without deforming.
•The installation must always be secured with a secondary attachment e.g. a safety cable.
•Never stand directly below the device when it is being mounted, removed or serviced. Have a
qualified technician check the device once a year and once before you bring it into service.
•Install the device in a location with few passers-by that is inaccessible to unauthorised persons.
Never operate the PAR36 light without fastened bulb.

•Overhead mounting requires extensive experience: calculating workload limits, determining the
installation material to be used… Have the material and the device itself checked regularly. Do not
attempt to install the device yourself if you lack these qualifications as improper installation may
result in injuries.
•Adjust the desired inclination angle via the mounting bracket and tighten the bracket screws.
•Make sure there is no flammable material within a 0.5 m radius of the device.
•Have a qualified electrician carry out the electric connection.
•Connect the device to the mains with the power plug. Do not connect it to a dimming pack.
•The installation has to be approved by an expert before the device is taken into service.
d)Mounting the Mirror Ball and Motor
•The mirror ball motor can be used upright, standing on a floor or table, or ceiling-mounted.
•The carrying construction must be able to support 10 kg for 1 hour without deforming.
•The installation must always be secured with a secondary attachment e.g. a safety cable.
•Never stand directly below the device when it is being mounted, removed or serviced. Have a
qualified technician check the device once a year and once before you bring it into service.
•Install the device in a location with few passers-by that is inaccessible to unauthorised persons.
•Overhead mounting requires extensive experience: calculating workload limits, determining the

•Make sure the rotation of the mirror ball is never slowed down or stopped. Make sure no side
forces can impact on the carrying construction.
1. Unscrew the lower screw.
2. Fix the mirror ball onto the motor axle by means of the screw. Make sure the holes of the
mirror ball axle and those of the motor axle match.
3. Use the built-in suspension hook if you wish to hang the mirror ball motor.
5. Use
After connecting the devices to the mains, the mirror ball will start to rotate at 3 RPM and the light
will switched on. Aim the light on the mirror ball to obtain a beautiful and colourful effect.
The strobe will start flashing at a steady pace. Increase or decrease the flash rate by means of the
rotary button on the back of the strobe.
6. Cleaning and Maintenance
1. All screws should be tightened and free of corrosion.
2. The housing, visible parts, mounting supports and the installation location (e.g. ceiling,
suspension, trussing) should not be deformed, modified or tampered with e.g. do not drill extra
holes in mounting supports, do not change the location of the connections.
3. Moving mechanic parts must not show any signs of wear and tear.
4. The electric power supply cables must not show any damage. Have a qualified technician
maintain the device.
5. Disconnect the device from the mains prior to maintenance activities.
6. Wipe the device regularly with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
7. There are no user-serviceable parts.
8. Contact your dealer for spare parts if necessary.
