5How to Use – Controls
Touch controls have been added to your HappyLight®Therapy
Lamp so that you can customize your light therapy experience
for maximum comfort and results. For your convenience, your
selections are automatically saved when you turn off your light.
There are two controls:
Brightness
Touch the right control to choose between
three different brightness levels and to find
the level that is comfortable for you.1If you
find the brightest setting uncomfortable,
you can start with a lower setting and
work your way up to the full 10,000 lux
over multiple sessions. Increasing the
brightness will deliver your daily dose of
healthy light more quickly, which results in
shorter light therapy sessions.
Countdown Timer
For your convenience, a countdown timer helps you keep track of the
length of your light therapy experience. You can set the countdown
timer while you engage in other activities (e.g., reading a book or
emails), and your light will turn off on its own once your light therapy
session is complete.
One Hour Quick Set
To set the countdown timer for a one-hour
session, quickly touch the countdown
timer control. The illuminated dots will turn
on indicating that a one-hour session has
been set.

How to Use — continued
Customizing the Length of Your Session
You can customize the length of your light therapy
session in 15 minute increments.
Step 1 - Touch and hold your finger on the left control
for 1 second.
Step 2 - Continue to hold your finger on the control
and select the length of your light therapy session.
Each dot of light represents fifteen minutes.
Step 3 - Remove your finger when the desired time
has been illuminated. The illuminated dot(s) will pulse
three times to recognize the chosen session time
and indicate that the programming mode has been
completed.
Note: If you touch the control again before the
completion of the three pulses, you will be able to
continue to modify the session time.
Stopping the Countdown Timer
Touch and hold the countdown timer control until the illuminated dot(s) turn(s)
off. If you would also like to turn off the light, press the on/off button at the top
of the lamp to turn the power off completely.

Sit close to your HappyLight®Therapy Lamp with your eyes open. While
staying oriented toward the light, feel free to engage in other activities such as
reading, writing, hobbies and crafts, sewing, needlepoint, applying make-up or
working at your computer or desk.
The lamp should be positioned as close as 6
inches but within 24 inches of your face. It is
most effective when it is positioned slightly off-
center (see diagram). Note: Do not look directly
into the lamp.
The light from the lamp must be directed at
your eyes; therefore, your eyes must be open
to achieve the full benefit. Note: Tinted glasses
reduce the amount of light reaching your eyes.

Generally speaking, the closer the HappyLight®Therapy Lamp is to you and
the higher the brightness, the less time you will need to use the lamp each
day to experience results.
If you do not experience desired results or are feeling lethargic, you can:
• Use the high brightness level
• Sit closer to the lamp
• Spend more time with the lamp
If you experience edginess or are over-stimulated, you can:
• Use the low brightness level
• Sit farther from the lamp
• Spend less time with the lamp
• Take a break from using the lamp
Please note that each person's response to light will vary, so it is important to
find the brightness, distance and time that are most comfortable for you.

Device Pretest
To help determine your degree of sensitivity to light, we recommend that you perform
this pretest upon the first use of your HappyLight®Therapy Lamp.
Step 1 - Turn on the lamp and position it about 18 inches from your face. (Do not look
directly into the lamp.)
Step 2 - Operate the lamp for approximately 10 minutes and turn it off. If the light
has caused any discomfort, stop using the lamp and consult a doctor. If you
have no discomfort, you may consider gradually increasing the brightness of
the light, decreasing your distance from the lamp and increasing your usage
time. When you first start using the lamp, you should monitor the degree of
any discomfort and accordingly adjust the brightness, distance and time.

the back of the lamp. If you wish to mount the lamp to a wall simply:

Establishing a Daily Routine
Researchers at the National Institute of Health
demonstrated that white light, in a range of
2,500 to 10,000 lux (a measurement of light
intensity), helped to reverse the symptoms of
“Winter Blues.”
We all have a different sensitivity to light, so
it is important to find the brightness, distance
and time that are comfortable for you. We recommend that you use your HappyLight®
Therapy Lamp regularly and at about the same time each day. It is not necessary to sit
in front of the lamp continuously. You can divide the time into several mini-sessions.
Continue to use the lamp daily to feel an improvement in your mood and activity level.
When you are feeling sluggish and lethargic, increase the brightness of the light, sit
closer to the lamp and/or spend more time with the lamp. If you feel a sort of edginess,
as though you have consumed too much coffee, it may be time to turn off the lamp.
* Recommended time is a function of brightness and distance. Individual results may
vary. Also, refer to the warnings at the bottom of the Device Pretest section on the
previous page.

many years with minimum care. You may want to periodically clean the lamp using a
mild, non-abrasive cleaner and soft cloth. When cleaning, make sure you have turned
off and unplugged the lamp and allowed sufficient time for it to cool.
If you are experiencing an issue with your HappyLight®Therapy Lamp, please:
• Make sure the power adapter and plug are inserted fully and securely.
• Make sure there is power to the wall outlet or try another outlet – one that is not
connected to a dimmer.

5Comment utiliser la lampe : commandes
Des commandes tactiles ont été ajoutées à votre lampe de
luminothérapie HappyLight® pour que vous puissiez personnaliser
votre expérience de luminothérapie et ainsi obtenir un confort et
des résultats optimaux. Pour plus de commodité, vos sélections
sont automatiquement enregistrées lors de la mise hors tension de
votre lampe.
Il y a deux commandes :
Luminosité
Touchez la commande de droite pour
choisir entre trois niveaux de luminosité
différents et trouver celui qui est le plus
confortable1. Si le réglage le plus lumineux
est trop clair pour vous, vous pouvez
commencer à un réglage plus faible et
augmenter graduellement l’intensité sur
plusieurs séances jusqu’à la luminosité
maximale de 10 000 lux. En augmentant la
luminosité, vous obtiendrez plus rapidement votre dose quotidienne de
lumière saine et vous raccourcirez vos séances de luminothérapie.
Minuterie
Pour plus de commodité, une minuterie vous aide à suivre la durée de
votre expérience de luminothérapie. Vous pouvez régler la minuterie
pendant que vous vous adonnez à d’autres activités (p. ex., lire un livre
ou vos courriels), et votre lampe s’éteindra par elle-même à la fin de
votre séance de luminothérapie.
Réglage rapide d’une heure
Pour régler la minuterie à une séance
d’une heure, effleurez rapidement la
commande de la minuterie. Les points
illuminés s’allumeront, indiquant qu’une
séance d’une heure a été réglée.

Personnalisation de la durée de votre séance
Vous pouvez personnaliser la durée de votre séance
de luminothérapie en incréments de 15 minutes.
1re étape - Appuyez sur la commande de gauche et
maintenez-la enfoncée pendant 1 seconde.
2e étape - Continuez d’appuyer sur la commande
et sélectionnez la durée de votre séance de
luminothérapie. Chaque point de lumière représente
quinze minutes.
3e étape - Retirez votre doigt lorsque la durée voulue
est atteinte. Les points illuminés clignoteront à trois
reprises, vous indiquant que la durée voulue de la
séance a été enregistrée et que la programmation a
été effectuée.
Remarque : Si vous touchez la commande à nouveau avant que les points aient
terminé de clignoter trois fois, vous pourrez continuer à modifier la durée de la
séance.
Arrêt de la minuterie
Appuyez sur la commande de la minuterie et maintenez-la enfoncée jusqu’à
ce que les points illuminés s’éteignent. Si vous désirez également éteindre la
lumière, appuyez sur le bouton marche-arrêt situé au haut de la lampe pour la
mettre complètement hors tension.

Asseyez-vous près de votre lampe de luminothérapie HappyLightMD, les yeux
ouverts. Tout en demeurant orienté vers la lumière, n’hésitez pas à entreprendre
d’autres activités comme la lecture, l’écriture, vos passe-temps et l’artisanat, la
couture, la broderie, vous maquiller ou travailler sur l’ordinateur ou à votre bureau.
La lampe devrait être placée à une distance
de 15 à 60cm (6 à 24po) de votre visage.
Elle est plus efficace lorsqu’elle est placée de
manière légèrement décentrée (voir l’illustration).
Remarque: Ne fixez pas directement la lampe.
La lumière émanant de la lampe doit être
dirigée vers vos yeux. Vos yeux doivent donc
être ouverts pour que vous puissiez profiter
pleinement des avantages qu’offre cette lampe.
Remarque: Les lunettes de soleil atténuent la
quantité de lumière qui atteint vos yeux.
6Comment utiliser la lampe: positionnement
En règle générale, plus la lampe de luminothérapie HappyLightMD est près de vous,
plus la luminosité sera élevée, réduisant ainsi le temps d’utilisation quotidien
nécessaire pour obtenir des résultats.
Si vous n’obtenez pas les résultats désirés ou que vous vous sentez léthargique,
vous pouvez:
• Utiliser le niveau le plus élevé de luminosité
• Rapprocher la lampe de votre visage
• Passer plus de temps devant la lampe
Si vous vous sentez nerveux ou hyperstimulé, vous pouvez:
• Utiliser le niveau le plus bas de luminosité
• Éloigner la lampe de votre visage
• Passer moins de temps devant la lampe
• Prendre une pause d’utilisation de la lampe
Veuillez noter que chaque personne répond à la lumière différemment. Il est donc
important de trouver la luminosité, la distance et la durée d’utilisation les plus
confortables pour vous.
