PREFACE
First of all we wish to thank you for the trust you placed in us by selecting one of our products.
Vermeiren products are the result of research and experience acquired over many years. During
development we placed great emphasis on simplicity of operation and maintenance.
The working life of the product depends to a large extent on the care with which you use it. This
instruction manual will help you to get acquainted with the operation of your chair. It also advises you
on how to keep your product in a good operating condition to ensure a long working life.
This instruction manual reflects the latest state of development of the product. However, Vermeiren
reserves the right to introduce changes without any obligation to adapt or replace previously delivered
models.
Please keep in mind that compliance with our instructions will contribute to your chair remaining in top
condition and fully operational even after many years of use.
If you have any further questions, kindly consult your specialist dealer.
APPLICABILITY
With this chair, you have acquired a product that was developed entirely for your comfort. Chairs are
to be used indoors. It has not been designed for outside usage. Individuals who would like to use the
chair must at least have sufficient control of their torso and may not display any disruptions in their
sense of balance if this affects side stability. Usage as a ladder, to set down hot, cold or heavy loads
or to transport objects is impossible. Please read the instruction manual carefully to familiarize yourself
with your product.
Vermeiren’s range of equipment and options allows usage by people with restricted movements
suffering from:
paralyses/weakness (while maintaining control over the torso)
injuries of the joints
illnesses, such as cardiac/circulation insufficiency
The indication to use this product must take into account the following elements:


physical and psychological condition

home environment
Any guarantees will only apply if the product is used under the prescribed conditions and for
the specific purposes intended herein.
GENERAL NOTES
The frame of the chair consists of high quality steel that has been covered with a powder coating. The
use of vinyl covers makes easy cleaning and care possible. The cloth covers are also easy care. The
seat systems were formed according to ergonomic principles for your comfort.
The angle of the seat system and the leg supports can be adjusted by means of a pneumatic cylinder
(on the LANGUEDOC and NORMANDIE models).

SEAT (all models)
The seat is attached to the basic frame with clamping fixtures.
Place the seat (1) slightly diagonally with the curved fixture (2) in such a way that this fixture
grabs under the back crossbar of the basic frame (3).
Press the seat (1) down at the front so that the clamp (4) engages on the front crossbar of the
basic frame (5).
If you would like to remove the seat, proceed in the opposite order.
LMake sure that no objects or body parts come between the seat and the frame – risk of injury!
BACK (Provence)
The back is secured with a connecting pole that can be removed to transport the chair.
Loosen the connecting pole at the screws (1)
and/or (2) and the back can then be folded
back for transport.
To reconstruct, tighten the screws (1) and/or
(2) securely by hand.
LMake sure that the screws are
securely tightened before use.

BACK (Languedoc)
The pneumatic spring is connected with the back frame with a locking pin (1) to assemble the back.
Erect the back frame until the sockets on the lower back frame and the suspension eye of the
pneumatic spring lie over one another.
Guide the locking pin (1) through the back sockets and the pneumatic spring. Two plastic
washers are to be inserted before and after the pneumatic spring socket as a spacer guide.
Afterwards, secure the locking pin (1) by guiding the tension spring (2) over the pin until it
projects out over the end of the spanning pin.
BACK (Normandie)
In addition to the back assembly (see section “Back Languedoc”), for the Normandie model the leg
support (A) is connected to the back frame with the supports (B).
For assembly, you should lay the model on a flat surface on its side.
Bring the mechanism for the leg support (A)
into position so that the fixing poles (B) and
the suspension loops on the lower back frame
(C) lie over one another.
Guide the screws (1) from the outside to the
inside through the holes on the suspension
loops on the back frame (C) and on the fixing
poles (B) and secure them with self-locking
nuts.
LTighten the screws only to the extent that the mechanism can still move, but the screw must at
least be guided through the self-locking nut.

BACKREST ADJUSTING
For the Languedoc and Normandie models,
on the side next to the seat tubing at the
height of the armrest socket is located a lever
to unlock the backrest adjuster (1). Lightly pull
up on the lever, the pneumatic spring is
released and the backrest can be moved into
the desired position. If you let the lever go
again, the pneumatic spring is blocked and
the back rest stops at the desired position.
For the Normandie model, the leg support is
adjusted into the horizontal position
simultaneously when adjusting the backrest.
The further back the backrest is adjusted, the
further the leg support is moved into the
horizontal position and vice versa.
LMake sure that no objects or individuals are in the adjusting area – risk of injury !
ARMRESTS
The armrests can be adjusted in height and can be lowered to the height of the seat frame for the
sideways transfer of the patient.
Pull the trigger lever of the armrests (1) up (in
the direction of the arm pad).
The locking spring (2) will then be released
and the armrest can be moved within the
armrest socket (3) into the desired position (5
positions).
To lower the armrest, pull the trigger lever (1)
and guide the armrest down to the lowest
possible position.
LIf the locking spring (2) is guided outside the armrest socket (3), the armrest is not locked.
ACCESSORIES
•PARKING BRAKES
For chairs with rolling castors, the back two castors are provided with parking brakes.
Engaging the parking brakes
With your toes press down the grey brakeplate till it
locks in place. The castors can now neither roll nor
turn.
Disengaging the parking brakes
With your toes press up the grey brakeplate in the
direction of the frame. The castors have now been
released and can both roll and swivel.
LBoth rolling castors must be locked to park the chair.

•FOOTREST
For the Provence and Languedoc models you have the option of implementing an additional footstool
to rest the legs.
The desired position can be set via the Rastomat. To
do this, pull or push the leg support to the desired
position.
To lower the leg support, pull it into the highest
position. The Rastomat will release its lock and the leg
support can then be brought to the lowest position.
LMake sure that no objects or body parts come
between the leg support and the frame – risk
of injury!
•ADJUSTABLE ARMRESTS
For the Languedoc and Normandie models, armrests are available that are clearly wider and whose
position can be individually adjusted (e.g. for use in facilities to take blood).
HEIGHT ADJUSTING
Loosen the screw (A) and the armrest can
adjusted in height.
SIDE ADJUSTING
Loosen the screw (B) and the armrest can be
swivelled to the inside and to the outside.
ANGLE ADJUSTING
Loosen the screw (C) and the angle of the arm pad
can be adjusted up and down.
DEPTH ADJUSTING
Loosen the screw (D) and the arm pad can
adjusted in depth.
LThe screws are to be checked for tightness before
using the armrests.
•ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE BACK
For the Normandie model, an electrically adjustable back/leg adjustment can be delivered. It can be
continuously adjusted by means of a manual switch.
TRANSPORTING
To transport the chair, place the backrest into the upright position (Languedoc + Normandie only). You
may now let a minimum of two adults carry the chair.
lAt least two persons are required for moving the chair up or down staircases or over single
steps or landings, etc. Transporting the chair with the patient is impossible.
lOnly lift the chair using fixed parts of the frame in the front and back or on the side.
lDo not lift using the armrests or the seat !
lTo prevent personal injury or damage to the product, there should be no people or objects
under the chair during transport.
lUse of the chair as a seat for transport inside a private vehicle is forbidden.
lWhen transporting the chair in a private vehicle, use safety straps to anchor the chair’s frame
to the vehicle.

USING RAMPS
If you are considering the installation of ramps to overcome obstacles, kindly note the following:
The chair is intended first and foremost to be used inside on level and solid surfaces. Ramps can only
be used if they are smooth and have no bumpy edges and the chair is equipped with four rolling
castors.
lThe use of ramps is impossible while a person is sitting in the chair.
FOR YOUR SAFETY
Take note of the following safety hints, depending on the features of the chair:
lThe chair must only be set up on level surfaces.
lNever cross steps, ledges or other obstacles with a patient seated on the chair.
lRegularly check that the wheel immobilizers function correctly.
lMake sure that no objects, barriers or individuals are located in the adjusting area of the back
and leg support.
lBe careful when using possible causes of fire such as cigarettes since they may set the seat
and back covers alight.
lNever exceed the maximum load (264.55 lbOEIRU;;/).
lNever open the gas compression springs: the inside pressure is very high and may result in
injury!
lIf one of the gas compression springs is damaged (if so equipped), stop using the chair
immediately. Contact your specialist dealer and have the necessary repairs done without
delay.
lUse only genuine and original parts for maintenance work.
SERVICING
Your chair also requires servicing like any other technical product. Below are the imperatives that will
– if you closely follow them – enable you to enjoy all the advantages of your chair even after many
years of use.
•BEFORE USE
Check the steering castors for visible damage and/or soiling.
Remove any dirt since it could impair the functioning of the parking brakes.
When the steering castors are damaged, please go see an authorized workshop for repair.
•APPROX. EVERY 8 WEEKS
Depending on the frequency of use, kindly check the following:
- Moveable parts of the leg support (if so equipped)
- Moveable parts of the tilt mechanism (if so equipped)
- Condition of the covers
- Function of the armrest adjusting
•APPROX. EVERY 6 MONTHS
Depending on the frequency of use check the following:
- Cleanliness
- General condition
- Function of the steering castors / brakes
If the rotation resistance is too great, clean the bearings of the steering castors. If this
is insufficient, please consult your specialist dealer.
