Safety Precautions
Read these instructions carefully before commissioning the camera in order to
avoid damages caused by improper installation or use.
Installation may only be carried out by authorised personnel according to the local
safety regulations.
Operate the camera with the designated voltage only.
Follow the safety instructions attached to the camera.
Never use the camera for other purposes than designated.
Repairs and adjustments at the camera may only be carried out by authorised
personnel.
In case of outdoor use you have to install the camera in a suitable weather
protection case incl. heating element.
If any liquid or solid matter should get into the housing, disconnect the camera
from power supply and have it checked by your authorised dealer before re-using
(danger of electronic shock!).
Do not disassemble the camera. To avoid electric shocks, never remove screws or
covers. There are no user-serviceable parts inside it. All maintenance may only be
carried out by authorised personnel according to the local safety regulations.
Install the camera by a least height of 2.30 m.

Tips for Camera Location
1.0 To avoid internal overheating:
-never expose the camera to direct sunlight without additional camera housing
-keep sufficient distance to direct heat sources.
2.0 Never install the camera at humid, oily or dusty locations without using an
additional housing. (without additional housing the camera is not suitable for
outdoor use!)
3.0 The camera should be installed out of reach (min. height: 2.30 m)
4.0 Do not aim the camera towards indoor lighting, the windows, the sunlight or the
sky (to get good pictures, camera and light should be aimed towards the object)
5.0 Reduce the picture detail to the
essential parts of the picture and place
the camera as close as possible to the
object (a smaller picture detail
guarantees sharper details).
6.0 Do not aim the camera towards a
window but instead towards the room.
7.0 Outdoors the camera should be
placed as high as possible so that the
horizon does not appear in the picture.
8.0 Avoid peak light as background (also
caused by reflections, e.g. window
panes).

Adjustment of Back Focus
This adjustment should only be carried out, if the lens cannot be focused properly
using the lens focus ring. For such a case proceed as follows:
1 Loosen the Allan head screw with the attached
Allan head key. For large distances, turn the
focus ring of the lens almost (0.5 cm) to the
"endless" limit position. If you need to focus an
object near the camera, turn the focus ring of
the lens to a position 1cm before the "near"
limit position.
2 Use the back focus adjustment screw to adjust the distance between lens and CCD
chip until the picture is in focus. Then fix the Allan head screw using the Allan head
key.
3 Finally, focus the picture using the lens focus ring.
Adjustment of ES-Lenses
To adjust a lens with automatic iris (video driven) to the camera, please proceed as
follows:
1. Turn the level potentiometer (position: ES lenses at the lens) to the max. position
H (turn right). The monitor picture then appears to be too bright.
2. Slowly turn the level potentiometer back until the monitor picture appears to be
perfect and is not too bright anymore. Then turn the potentiometer back to the
right (in direction "H") just a little bit.
3. Check the lens performance by using the camera under different and/or changing
light conditions.

Focusing the Camera Lens
After you have selected the correct picture detail you have to adjust the lens focus.
The focus adjustment needs to be done with the iris fully open, since the camera has
the smallest depth of focus in this position. If the focus adjustment was not done with
the iris completely open, the picture would be sharp during the day but slowly getting
out of focus the more the light disappears. To fully open the lens, use a grey filter in
front of the lens, provided you are using a lens with automatic iris. Adjust the focus
while the iris is fully open using the lens focus ring. Make sure the most important
picture details are in optimum focus (use a service monitor). If it is not possible to
bring the picture into focus, please adjust the back focus of the camera as described
above.
If you intend to use I.R. illumination at a later stage, you must use an I.R. pass filter
together with the grey filter during focus adjustment to ensure that only I.R. light will
get through to the camera chip and the focus adjustment is done according to this
spectrum, only. Attention: I.R. light can only be used in combination with mono
cameras, not colour cameras!

Main Setup
Press the menu key on the left side of the
camera to open the set up menu. All settings
are accessible from this menu. Set the cursor
         

In "LENS" you can choose between automatic lenses and manual lenses. With the
automatic lenses either DC or Video is readable on the right side. It depends on the
Video / DC switch position (ref. page 8).

AGC
Under low light condition the videosignal would increased automatically. The higher
the AGC the more noisy is the picture. Settings: Off, Low, High.
OFF: AGC disabled
LOW: automatic gain control from 0 30 dB
HIGH: automatic gain control from 0 42 dB
SENS –UP
AUTO: 
by increasing or decreasing the shutter speed. (X2~X256)
OFF: Sens up disabled
RETURN
Select this to save the changes in the EXPOSURE menu and return to the SETUP
menu.
Notes: Note that the higher the sens up level, the brighter the screen, but the more likely it
is that an after-image will appear. Although Noise, Spots, and Whitish symptoms
may occur in SENS-UP operation when the zoom level is increased, this is normal.

WHITE BAL.
The White Balance function is used to adjust the screen colour. Five mode to have a
proper picture are available.
ATW
Select this when the colour temperature is between 1800°K and 10500°K.
INDOOR
Select this when the colour temperature is between 4500°K and 8500°K.
OUTDOOR
Select this when the colour temperature is between 1800°K and 10500°K. (sodium
light inclusion)
AWC
To find the optimal setting for the current luminance environment in this mode, set
the point the camera towards a sheet of white paper and press the SET button. If the
environment changes, readjust it.
MANUAL
Select this to fine-tune White Balance manually. Set White Balance first by using the
ATW or AWC mode. After that switch to MANUAL mode, fine-tune the White Balance
and then press the SET button.
Notes: White Balance may not work properly under the following conditions. In this case
select the AWC mode.
When the color temperature of environment surrounding the subject is out of
thecontrol range (e.g. clear sky, or sunset)
When the ambient illumination of the subject is dim.
If the camera is directed towards a fluorescent light or is installed in a placewhere
illumination changes dramatically, the White Balance operation maybecome unstable.

BACKLIGHT
This camera is designed so that it delivers a distinctive subject and background at
the same time, even when the subject is in backlight.
BLC
Enables a user to directly select a desired area
from a picture, and to view the area more clearly.


bright part of the screen, optimize the installation angle for the best WDR performance.

DNR
This function reduces the background noise in a low luminance environment. The
level of the DNR is set in the submenu.
DAY / NIGHT
With the IX 4000A you can display pictures in colour or black and white.
COLOR
The picture is always displayed in colour
B/W
The picture is always displayed in black and white.
AUTO
The mode is switched to colour in a normal environment, but switches to B/W mode
when ambient illumination is low. To set up the switching time or speed for AUTO
mode, press the SET button.

As you increase this value, the picture outline becomes stronger and clearer. Adjust
this value appropriately depending on the sharpness of the picture.

CAM TITLE If you enter a title, the title will appear on the
monitor.
If the SPECIAL menu screen is displayed, use
the Up and Down buttons so that the arrow


Use the 4 direction buttons to move to a desired
letter and select the letter by pressing the SET
button. Repeat this to enter multiple letters. You can enter up to 15 letters. If you

a letter, change the cursor to the bottom left arrow and press the SET button. Move
the cursor over the letter to be edited, move the cursor to the letter to be inserted and


SYNC
Activates the line lock function. If the camera is powered with 12V DC the camera is
set fixed to INT mode.

MOTION DET If you connect an alarm device to this camera,
you can monitor activity more efficiently, because
a signal is generated by the camera whenever
motion is detected. The motion detection signal is
output through the MOTION OUT pin at the rear
panel.
When the SPECIAL menu screen is displayed,
press the Up and Down buttons so that the arrow
indicates MOTION DET. Set up the mode using
the 4 direction buttons.
1. SENSITIVITY : You can select up to 8 MD areas. When SENSITIVITY number is
high, motion detection sensitivity is increased to recognise even small movement.
2. AREA MODE : Determines whether to use the MD area selected in SENSITIVITY.
3. SEL POS : Determines which of the 4 vertices of each MD area is to be used.
4. YPOS : Determines the co-ordinate of the vertical axis for SEL POS.
5. XPOS : Determines the co-ordinate of the horizontal axis for SEL POS.
6. FILL SET : Fills in a selected MD area. Fills in a selected MD area. The colour of
filling is sequentially selected as brown, orange, blue, cyan, yellowish green,
yellow and red.
7. RETURN : Select this to save the MOTION DET menu settings and return to the
SPECIAL menu.
PRIVACY
Hide an area you want to hide on the
screen.
When the SPECIAL menu screen is displayed,
press the Up and Down buttons so that the


DIS (Digital Image Stabiliser)
This function mitigates any picture movement due to external factors such as wind.
COMM ADJ This function sets up the camera communication
status when controlling the camera through an
external control device.
1. Determines the camera's identification
number (between 0 and 256).
2. You can select 2400/4800/9600/19200/38400
/57600 BPS.)
3. You can select NONE, EVEN or ODD for the
parity bits
4. Determines whether to send a command back
to the controller device when a
communication control command is sent to the camera.
5. Display camera title on top left corner of the screen.
LANGUAGE
You can select the menu language according to your requirements.
RESET
Resets the camera settings to the factory defaults.
RETURN
Select this to save the SPECIAL menu settings and return to the SPECIAL menu.
EXIT
Press the SET button in the EXIT menu to save the current settings and exit the SET
menu.

monitor; use opto coupler (e.g. VPT from videotronic)
- Bad connections

- Wrong 75 termination
- Shield of video cable interrupted
Synchronisation of cameras

- No or bad linelock connection between camera (12
V/DC version) and power adapter
- Mains plug twisted; turn the mains plug by 180° to
change the linelock phase

Cleaning and Care
Before you start to clean the camera body, disconnect the unit from power supply.
For reasons of electrical safety never clean the camera with water or other liquid
matters and never put the camera under water. To clean use a soft dry cloth.
Cleaning the camera inside is strictly forbidden and may only be done by your
authorised dealer.
Since all camera functions are self adjusting and the camera does not contain any
parts or components that are subject to wear we advise you not to open the camera
(except for the flap for settings), unless the camera appears to be defective.
Make sure to include these instructions when handing the camera over to third
parties.
