INSTRUCTIONS FOR
INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
MODEL V7FCD FIXED MINI DOME
1. INTRODUCTION
The information in this manual covers the installation
and maintenance of the V7FCD Fixed-Ceiling Omnis-
can. Read these instructions through completely before
performing any installation procedures.
This unit should be installed by a qualified technician
using approved materials and wiring practices in accord-
ance with national, state, and local wiring codes.
The V7FCD Omniscan is designed to accommodate
small monochrome and color solid-state cameras for
installations where discreet surveillance is a necessity.
This unit is designed to be mounted in a drop ceiling,
although it may be installed in other types of ceilings.
A mounting rail option (Model V3380MR) is available
for installations requiring additional support, and a steel
ceiling panel option (Model V7FCP) is available to
replace the existing ceiling tile.
The viewing dome of the V7FCD is tinted neutral gray
overall, and the interior surface is painted flat black,
except for a narrow viewing strip. The combination of
tinted plastic and the painted interior makes it virtually
impossible to see into the dome. Attached by clips and
nuts, the dome is easily removed to simplify installation
and service.
2. INSTALLATION
2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
All,Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving
the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to deliver the
equipment in the same condition as it left the factory.
2.1.1 INSPECTION FOR VISIBLE DAMAGE
Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. Make a
note of any visible damage on all copies of the carrier’s
freight bill.
2.1.2 INSPECTION FOR CONCEALED
DAMAGE
As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and
inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the carton
or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the
carrier immediately and request forms for filing a damage
claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the
carrier to inspect the damaged equipment.
Make sure the carrier’s agent (the person making the
delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the agent
does not have claim forms, contact the carrier’s office.
If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the
Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual.

a damp cloth for cleaning.

6. Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by Vicon
as they may cause hazards.

where it may be exposed to water or moisture. This does not apply to
outdoor camera housings, outdoor pan-and-tilt drives, and other
equipment designed for drrect exposure to outdoor environments.

10. Power Sources-This video product should be operated only from
the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not

operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating
instructions.

lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conduc-
tors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding
electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.

2.2 Wiring
Be sure that the area directly above the selected location
is clear of obstacles (such as steel beams, headers, pipes,
electrical wiring, etc.) which would interfere with the
mounting of the Omniscan.
All cabling enters the upper housing through a split plate
located on top of the housing. Cable routing is performed
during the installation steps described in Section 2.2
below; it is presented at this point for the convenience
of the installer. Grommets are provided to prevent cable
chafing. Multiple knockouts are also provided on the
side of the upper housing for wiring. Use conduit or
liquid tight fittings when using these knockout holes.
Refer to Figure 1.
2.3 Housing Installation
Three mounting configurations are possible with the
V7FCD: (1) supported by an existing ceiling tile cut for
the Omniscan; (2) supported by a V7FCP ceiling panel
option; (3) supported by a V3380MR mounting rail kit.

2.3.1 Installation with Existing Tile

must be strong enough to support the combined
weight of the V7FCD and the camera/lens assembly.
Although the V7FCD is not heavy [upper housing

refer to appropriate product specifications for the

tile have little tensile strength, so special care must
be taken if this installation method is used.

Remove the tile in which the unit is to be mounted.
Using the V7FCD as a template, cut a circular
opening in the center of a ceiling tile. Test the fit of
the Omniscan and tile before proceeding with the
next step. The circular flange around the upper
housing rests on top of the tile and supports the
weight of the unit. Refer to Figure 1.
Lift the upper housing of the V7FCD into the ceiling
area and rest it on one of the tiles adjacent to the
opening it is going to occupy. Route the cables
through the split plate into the housing as described
in Section 2.2.
Install the tile prepared in Step 1 in the ceiling grid,
making sure it is seated properly.
Reach through the circular opening and move the
upper housing into place in the tile. Install the
camera as described in Section 2.4.

2.3.2 Installation Using the V7FCP Ceiling
Panel Option
1. Remove the tile in which the unit is to be mounted.
2. Lift the upper housing of the V7FCD into the ceiling
area and rest it on one of the tiles adjacent to the
opening it is going to occupy. Route the cables
through the split plate into the housing as described
in Section 2.2.
3. Install the V7FCP panel in the ceiling grid, making
sure it is seated properly.
4. Reach through the circular opening in the panel and
move the upper housing into place in the panel,
aligning the holes in the flange of the housing with
the standoffs in the panel.
5. Remove an adjacent ceiling tile to allow adequate
work space.
6. Secure the housing to the V7FCP ceiling panel with
the four screws provided. Screws should be inserted
downwards from the ceiling.
2.3.3 Installation Using the V3380MR Mounting
Rail Kit
The V3380MR mounting rail kit may be used in con-
junction with either an existing ceiling tile or the V7FCP
ceiling panel option. If an existing ceiling tile is to be
used, cut a circular opening in the tile as described in
Section 2.3.1 and set the tile aside.

Find four (4) support points in the ceiling above the
tile grid. These are used to attach the suspension
wires. (Chains may be used in place of wire.) Screw
eyelets or other similar hardware may be used as the
means of attaching the wires to the ceiling, but these
supports and the material they are attached to must
be strong enough to support the weight of the hous-
ing and camera assembly.
Attach a wire of an appropriate length to each
support.
Attach the mounting rails to the upper housing using
the screws and flat washers supplied in the acces-
sory kit. The narrow edge of the mounting rail
should face down and away from the housing. Refer
to Figure 2.

2.4 Camera and Lens Installation
1. Mount the lens onto the camera following the cam-
era instruction manual.
2. Mount the camera/lens combination to the mount-
ing bracket using a l/4-20 screw. Extend the lens to
its greatest extension and position the camera on the
bracket so that the lens clears the dome by about 114
inch (0.64 cm). Tighten the screw. (Since the dome
is not installed until later, the camera/lens position-
ing at this time is approximate.)
3. Connect the video, sync, and power cables.
4. Loosen the bolts holding the camera mounting
bracket, if necessary, to position the camera to view
the desired scene. Tighten the bolts. Adjust the lens
for an acceptable picture.
5. Cut off the string with the clip on the end from the inside
of the housing (it has no use in this installation). Remove
the trim ring from the upper housing by removing the
four (4) screws and washers. Loosen the nuts on the
clips on the underside of the trim ring and slip the dome
flange into the clips. Refer to Figure 3. Attach the dome
to the trim ring by tightening the nuts. Verify that the
lens clears the dome by l/4 inch (0.64 cm).
6. Rotate the lower dome until the scene, as viewed on
the monitor, is completely visible through the tinted
viewing strip of the dome. Reinstall the trim ring onto
the upper housing with the four screws and washers.
This completes the installation.
3. MAINTENANCE
The V7FCD Omniscan requires no maintenance other
than occasional cleaning of the viewing strip area of the inside surface and the entire exterior surface of the dome.
3.1 Handling and Cleaning Procedures for Acrylic Domes
The lower dome of the Omniscan is an optical surface
through which the camera must resolve detailed images.
Treat the dome with the same care as a fine camera lens.
Please observe the following precautions to maintain the
dome’s optical properties:
1. Always handle the dome from the outside of its
circular flange.
2. When handling the dome, avoid contact with the
inside surface.
3. If dust or other contaminants accumulate on the
dome’s interior, they should be removed with clean
air pressure (compressed air cans).
4. If heavy residue (spots, streaks, stains) or any other
contaminant which is only on the surface of the
dome is present, these can be removed with a solu-
tion of a mild dish detergent suitable for use on
acrylic plastic or isopropyl alcohol and water and
lint-free soft paper towels such as Microwave
Bounty. After cleaning, the affected area of the
dome should be blown off with clean, dry air.

5. Scratches or other surface blemishes in the dome
material that are located in the viewing area may
possibly be removed by applying a nonabrasive wax
to the affected area with a soft cleaning cloth. Ex-
treme care must be taken to prevent wax contact
with the transition and painted areas of the dome to
prevent removal of paint. Again, after waxing, re-
move dust or lint with clean, dry air.

dome’s surface can cause permanent scratches
that may render the dome unusable.
6. Cleaning of the outer surface is accomplished with
any nonabrasive cleaning cloth and cleaning agent
that is safe for use on acrylic plastic. Either liquid
or spray cleaner/wax suitable for use on fine furni-
ture is acceptable.
