Installation of any gas-fire equipment

CHEMICAL HAZARD
If not installed, operated and
maintained in accordance
with the manufacturer’s
instructions, this product could expose
you to substances in fuel or from fuel
combustion which can cause death or
serious illness and which are known to
cause cancer, birth defects, or other
reproductive harm.
For example, benzene is a chemical
which is part of the gas supplied to the
cooking product. It is consumed in the
flame during combustion. However
exposure to a small amount of benzene
is possible if a gas leak occurs.
Formaldehyde and soot are byproducts
of incomplete combustion. Properly
adjusted burners with a bluish rather
than yellow flame will minimize
incomplete combustion.
WARNING
ELECTRICAL GROUNDING
INSTRUCTIONS
The cooktop must be electrically grounded
in accordance with local codes or, in the
absence of codes, with the ANSI/NFPA
No. 70-latest edition. Installation should
be made by a licensed electrician. This
appliance is equipped with a three-prong
grounding plug for your protection against
shock hazard and should be plugged
directly into a properly grounded
receptacle. DO NOT cut or remove the
grounding prong from the plug.
For personal safety, this appliance
must e properly grounded. DO NOT
under any circumstances cut or
remove the third (ground) prong from
the power plug.
WARNING
BURN HAZARD
The use of cabinets for storage above the
appliance may result in a potential burn
hazard. Combustible items may ignite,
metallic items may become hot and
cause burns. If a cabinet storage is to be
provided the risk can be reduced by
installing a range hood that projects
horizontally a minimum of 5” (12.7 cm)
beyond the bottom of the cabinets.
CAUTION
Before placing the cooktop into operation,
always check for gas leaks with a soapy
water solution or other acceptable method.

above 36” (91.4 cm) high. There must be a
minimum of 8” (20.3 cm) si e clearance from
the cooktop to such combustible surfaces

Electrical & Gas Requirements
Electrical Requirements
There is no connection necessary beyon
plugging the unit into a polarize ,
groun e , 120 volt, 60 Hz, 15 amp circuit. A
minimum of 120VAC is require for proper
operation of gas ignition systems. DO NOT
use a GFI circuit. This circuit, however, MUST
be groun e an properly polarize . The
unit is equippe with 16-3 SPT2 power cor .
Note: If electrical power is not supplied or is
interrupted, the open top burners will have
to be lit manually with a match.
Gas Connection
The gas supply (service) line must be the
same size or greater than the inlet line of the
appliance. All cooktops use a 1/2” (1.3 cm)
I.D. NPT (Sch40) inlet. Sealant on all pipe
joints must be resistive to LP/Propane gas.
These cooktops are esigne specifically for
natural gas or liqui propane (LP) gas. It is
shippe from the factory a juste for use
with natural or propane (LP) gas. Before
beginning installation verify that the mo el is
compatible with the inten e gas supply.
IMPORTANT: Any conversion required
must be performed by a qualified licensed
plumber or gas service company. The
proper conversion kit must be ordered
from your authorized service agency or
dealer.
Manual shut-off valve:
• The installer-supplie valve must be
installe in the gas service line ahea of
the appliance an regulator in the gas
stream an in a position where it can be
reache quickly in the event of an
emergency.
In Massachusetts: A “T” han le type
manual gas valve must be installe in
gas supply line to the appliance.
Pressure regulator:
• All heavy- uty, commercial-type cooking
equipment must have a pressure regulator
on the incoming service line for safe an
efficient operation, since service pressure
may fluctuate with local eman . The
regulator supplie with the cooktops must
be installe before any gas connections
are ma e.
• Manifol pressure shoul be checke with
a manometer; natural gas requires 5.0”
WCP an LP/Propane requires 10.0” WCP.
Incoming line pressure upstream for the
regulator must be 1” WCP higher than the
manifol pressure in or er to check the
regulator. The regulator use on this
cooktop can withstan a maximum input
pressure of 1/2 PSI (14.0” WCP). If
the line pressure is in excess of that
amount, a stepdown regulator will be
required.
• The appliance must be isconnecte from
the gas supply piping system uring any
pressure testing of that system.

General Information

• Disconnect the electrical supply to the
appliance before servicing.
When removing cooktop for cleaning an /or
service:
• Shut off gas at main supply
• Disconnect AC power supply
• Disconnect gas line to the inlet pipe.
• Lift appliance out of cabinet cutout.

BURN HAZARD
The use of cabinets for storage above the
appliance may result in a potential burn
hazard. Combustible items may ignite,
metallic items may become hot and
cause burns. If a cabinet storage is to be
provided the risk can be reduced by
installing a range hood that projects
horizontally a minimum of 5” (12.7 cm)
beyond the bottom of the cabinets.

This appliance shall not be used for

WARNING
Rigid Connections:
• Incoming gas is brought from an intake
pipe (not supplie ) at the rear of the unit
to the pressure regulator; then to the
manifol pipe for istribution. The only
connection necessary is from the service
supply, through the shut-off valve (not
supplie ), to this intake pipe (not
supplie ) to the regulator supplie , but
not connecte through the cooktop.
In Massachusetts: This appliance must be
installe with a 36” (3-foot) long flexible gas
connector.
LP/Propane Conversion
The VGSU an DGSU mo els are fiel
convertible to LP/Propane gas or natural
gas. The orifice spu s an regulator must be
physically change . For the VGSU mo els,
or er conversion kit NK2VGSU to convert to
natural an LPK3VGSU to convert to
LP/Propane. For the DGSU mo els, or er
conversion kit DLPK to convert to
LP/Propane. Gas conversions shoul be
complete by a qualifie technician. Refer to
instructions in conversion kit for gas
conversions.
The DGCU models are not field
convertible. The unit must be ordered
from the factory either natural or
LP/Propane.

water solution or other acceptable method.

contact your ealer for the name of their
authorize service agency in your area.

your authorize service agency or ealer.
Proper Lighting and Shutdown
Instructions
1. To ignite the surface burners, turn the
knob counter clockwise to any position.
2. Upon ignition of the surface burner, turn
the knob to the esire position, (HI,
Me , or Low).
3. To shut own the burner, turn knob
clockwise to the OFF position.
4. In case of failure, shut the gas OFF using
the installer supplie manual shut-off
valve.

steel parts may have a plastic protective
wrapper which must be peele off. The
cooktop shoul be washe thoroughly
with hot, soapy water an then rinse an
wipe ry to remove these film resi ues
an any installation ust or ebris before
being use for foo preparation.
• All stainless steel bo y parts shoul be
wipe regularly with hot, soapy water
an with a liqui cleanser esigne for
this material if buil -up occurs. DO NOT
USE steel wool, abrasive cloths, cleansers,
or pow ers. If it is necessary to scrape
stainless steel to remove encruste
material, soak with hot, wet cloths to
loosen the material, then use a woo
or nylon scraper. DO NOT USE a metal
knife, spatula, or any other metal tool
to scrape stainless steel. Scratches are
almost impossible to remove.
