Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Hydro-Safe® Filtration System. This system combines three
different technologies to meet your water treatment needs.
FIRST
Model HSFS: The water is filtered through a 0.2-micron high capacity depth filter. This filter
traps suspended particles, cysts, and bacteria.
Model HSFS 5M: The water is filtered through a 5-micron pleated filter, which traps
suspended particles.
Second
The water is treated with activated carbon, which, removes chlorine, organics, and other
objectionable chemicals that can affect the taste and/or smell of the water.
Third
The water is disinfected by the integral UV system. The UV system renders all biological
contaminants inactive.

* Higher flow rates can be achieved but the UV effectiveness will be reduced.
Warning:
•Do not use this product where the water is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown
quality.
•Do not look at the UV lamp while it is turned on. The intense UV light emitted from
the bulb will burn the eyes and can cause permanent damage.
Note: Avoid touching the sides of the quartz sleeve and UV lamp. Handle from the end
only. Fingerprints will reduce the effectiveness of the UV system.
Before installing this product, read all installation instructions and warnings carefully.
Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury, death or property damage.

Installation:
1. The unit should be installed indoors. Make sure there is at least four feet of clear space
available above the unit. The space above the unit is necessary for cartridge and UV
lamp replacement.
2. Remove the union adapters from the package and put the union ring over the adapter.
Apply Teflon tape to the gauge threads and screw the gauges into the adapters (see figure
1).
3. Turn off the water supply.
4. Plumb the unit to the water supply line (see figure 1). It is recommended that ball valves
(not included with unit) be installed in the inlet and outlet piping for more convenient
filter cartridge and UV lamp replacement.
5. Remove the lid by loosening the swing bolts and verify that the filter cartridge and
stainless steel UV chamber are installed (see figure 2).
6. Replace the lid and tighten the swing bolts in a crisscross pattern.
7. Remove the retaining nut and carefully install the quartz sleeve and o-ring (see figure 3).
Do not touch the sides of the quartz or the lamp. The retaining nut only needs to be
finger tight. Note: Over tightening the retaining nut will cause the quartz sleeve to break.
8. Orient the UV lamp with the four-pin connector pointing up and gently lower the lamp
into the quartz sleeve (see figure 4). Do not drop the lamp into the sleeve (the sleeve
and/or lamp could break).
9. Make sure the power supply is not plugged in. Connect the plug from the power
supply to the four-pin connector on the lamp. Cover the end of the lamp with the vinyl
cap (see figure 5)
10. Attach the power supply to the side of the filter housing with the included Velcro.

Startup & Operation:
1. Slowly turn on the water supply.
2. Press the red pressure relief button on top of the housing. Hold the button down until
water comes out from underneath the button.
3. Check for and repair any leaks. If Necessary, tighten the swing bolts with a crescent
wrench or by sliding the shaft of a large screwdriver through the swing bolt eyelet.
4. Plug in the UV power supply. A green light on the power supply indicates that the lamp
is working properly. A red light and audible alarm indicates that the lamp is either
disconnected or has failed.
The system is now ready to provide filtered water. Periodically check the pressure gauges while
water is flowing through the system. Replace the filter cartridge if the difference between the
inlet and outlet pressures reaches 25 psi.
Maintenance:
Filter Cartridge – Replace every 6 to 12 months depending on feed water
quality or if the difference between the inlet and outlet pressure is greater
than 25 psi while water is flowing.
1. Unplug the UV power supply and allow the lamp to cool for 30
minutes.
2. Move the UV power supply so that it will not get wet.
3. Turn off the water supply to the unit and relieve the pressure by
pressing the red button on top of the unit, or by opening a faucet
down stream.
4. Remove the UV lamp and quartz sleeve by following the
installation instructions on the previous page of this manual in
reverse order. Place the sleeve and lamp in a safe place to prevent
breakage.
5. Loosen the eyebolts and remove the lid.
6. Remove the stainless steel UV vessel from the inside of the filter
cartridge by pulling it up and out (see figure 6). Set it aside for
reuse.
7. Rotate the filter cartridge counter clockwise and lift it out of the
housing (see figure 7).
8. Install the new cartridge by lowering it into the housing. Turn the
cartridge clock wise to lock it in place.
9. Reinstall the stainless steel UV vessel into the center of the
cartridge.
10. Replace the lid and tighten the eyebolts.
11. Replace (or reuse, depending on the schedule) the quartz sleeve and
lamp by following the installation instructions on the previous page
of this manual.
UV Lamp – Replace every 12 months

1. Unplug the UV power supply and allow the lamp to cool for 30 minutes.
2. Lift the UV lamp up and unplug the connector from the end of the lamp.
3. Replace the lamp and plug in the connector. Avoid touching the sides of the lamp.
4. Cover the lamp with the vinyl cap.
5. Plug in the UV power supply.
Quartz Sleeve – Clean every 12 months and replace every 24 months
1. Carefully remove the UV lamp. Avoid touching the sides of the lamp.
2. Remove the quartz sleeve-retaining nut.
3. Carefully remove the quartz sleeve.
4. Clean the quartz sleeve with standard glass cleaner or replace it with a new one. Avoid
touching the sides of the quartz sleeve.
