ALWAYS OPERATE SCARIFIER OUTDOORS!!
1. When operating the scarifier, follow these guidelines for operator's personal safety:
a. Always wear proper safety clothing and equipment for the job. These can and should include eye
and ear protection, gloves, dust mask and any other itemsthat are appropriate forthe job and jobsite
requirements.
b. Never wear any jewelry, neck ties, or other loose or hanging items thatcan be caught on any part
of the machine.
c. Tie back orremove anyloose hair, clothing and any other potential hazards and obstructions.
d. Keep all hands, loose clothing, hair, jewelry and all other personal parts and belongings away
from moving parts of the machine.
e. Avoid coming in contact with the muffler and other engine parts after the engine isstarted and the
time immediately after the machine is turned off. Machine and engine temperatures may exceed
150
or 66
°C
. Machine must be allowed to cool before touching it or attempting to perform any
maintenance!
2. For the safety of others and that of the operator, observe the following precautions:
a. Keep observers and bystanders away from the scarifier and its immediate working environment
(i.e.: the turf that is being dethatched etc.) while the machine is in use.
b. Stop operations or if anyone or anything (i.e.: humans, animals, debris etc.) approaches from the
front or the sides while the machine is inoperation.
c. Stop work and turn off the scarifier if it hits any debris thatjams the machine or causes itto labour
unnecessarily. Inspect the scarifier and surrounding environment for any possible causes.
d. If the machine is jammed, stop the engine and remove the spark plug wire before attempting
to clear any jams in the unit.
e. Never leave machine unattended
f. DO NOT,under any circumstances, operatemachine if any ofthe following conditions areapplicable:
i. Any impairment (i.e.: medical conditions, medicinal side-effects, alcohol, drugs etc.) Of the operator.
ii. The operator has not read or understood the operator's manual for this machine.
iii. The operator does not clearly understand the operations of the machine.
iv. The machine is in need ofrepair
v. The operator is inappropriatelyattired to operate the machine.
3. Due to the nature of the machine and the tasks that it is designed toperform, the scarifier may
behave in the following manner:
a. Always start dethatching asafe distance awayfrom any object such as afence, foundation orany
other structural obstructions. The flails could possibly catch and climb on the object.
b. Use extreme caution when operating scarifier on uneven terrain. Do not risk the possibility of
tipping over the machine or causingit to rollover.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!!!
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING WITH YOUR PETROL SCARIFIER
Replace faulty silencers
Clean up any oil or fuel spills.
Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of thedischarge opening atall times.
Do not operate the engine in a confined space where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect;
Walk and never run.
Always be sure of your footing on slopes.
Do not change the engine governor settings or over-speed the engine;
Never make adjustments or repairs with the engine (motor) running. Disconnect thespark plug
wire, and keep the wire away from the plug to prevent accidental starting.
Check regularly that nuts and bolts, especially blade attachment bolts, are fastened tightly and keep
the equipment in a good condition.
Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper operationregularly.
Make sure that grass, leaves orother debris does not collect inthe scarifier; check regularly and remove
such residues to blocking.
Stop and inspect your scarifier if you strike any object. Repair, if necessary, before restarting.
Never attempt to make wheel height adjustments while the engine (motor) is running.
Grass catcher components (if equipped) are subject to wear, damage and deterioration, which could
expose moving parts or allowobjects to be ejected. Frequentlycheck these components and, ifnecessary,
replace damaged components with parts recommended by themanufacturer.
Stop the blade(s) if the scarifier has to be tilted for transportation when crossing surfaces other than
grass, and when transporting the scarifier to and from the area to be raked.
Start the engine or switch on the motor carefully according to instructions and with feet well away
from the blades.
Do not tilt the scarifier when starting the engine or switching on the motor, except if thescarifier has
to be tilted for starting. In this case, do not tile it more than absolutely necessary and lift only the part
which is away from the operator.
Never pick up or carry a scarifier while the engine is running.
Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
-
before clearing blockages or unclogging chute.
-
before checking, cleaning or working on the rake.
-
after striking aforeign object, inspect the scarifier for damage and make repairs before restarting and
operating the scarifier;
-
if scarifier starts to vibrate abnormally (checkimmediately).
Stop the engine:
-
whenever you leave the scarifier.
-
before refueling.
Reduce the throttle setting during engine shut down and, if the engine is provided with a shut-off
valve, turn the fuel off at the conclusionof raking;
Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure
Never store the equipment with petrol in the tank inside a building where fumes can reach an open
flame or spark. Toreduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer, battery compartment and petrol
storage area free of grass, leaves, or excessivegrease.
Check the grass catcher frequently for wear or deterioration
If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done outdoors.
