Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
Working Area Safety
1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
2. Do not operate machines in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases or dust. Machines create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Do not let water get into the machines. If the machine is wet, do not operate it until it is
dry. Do not operate machine when it is standing in water. This will increase risk of electrical
shock.
4. Wear safety equipment (gloves and rubber soled, non-slip shoes) and apply safety
procedures when working area is wet. Use a properly functioning Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupter (GFCI) on the power cord. Place the machine on a dry surface.

4

Drain Cleaning Guns
5. Be cautious when cleaning drains with cleaning chemicals being applied. Do not let the
chemicals directly contact skin, eyes or the cable. These chemicals can cause serious burns
to skins and eyes as well as damage to the cable.
6. Have a second person supervise when working in a narrow space or special environment,
such as in a boiler room, inside a pipe or on a wet surface. Failure to do so may cause
serious injury or death.
7. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause
you to lose control.
Electric Safety
1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) machines. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets
will reduce risk of electric shock.
2. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or
grounded.
3. Do not expose machines to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power
tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and/or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
5. Do not use outdoors.
6. This machine is equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
(GFCI), which protects you against shock if short circuit should
occur. Check that the receptacle is properly grounded. Test the
GFCI before each use. The testing procedure is given below.
a) Plug the GFCI into a receptacle with the machine-specified
voltage.
b) Push the test button. Indicator light will go out and power to
the machine should cut off.
If light does not go out when the test button
is pushed, equipment should not be used until proper repairs
or replacement to the GFCI are made.
c) To restore power after test, push the reset button.
With the reset button depressed, if the
machine does not start, or stops while running, or if you
experience a mild shock, do not use the machine! Have it repaired or replaced by a
licensed technician.
Be sure to push the reset button, since this GFCI will test itself
automatically after each plug.
When using an extension cord, the GFCI on the drain cleaner does not
protect the extension cord. If the outlet is not GFCI protected, it is advisable to use a
plug in type GFCI between the outlet and the extension cord to reduce the risk of
shock if there is a fault in the extension cord.
7. Never leave the power machine in rain or in wet conditions. Wet machines often cause
electric shock.

5

8. Do not allow your body to contact any grounded surfaces such as radiators, ranges pipes,
and refrigerators. It is very dangerous to be electrically shocked when your body is
grounded.
9. Never abuse the electrical cord. Do not use the cord to pull the plug from an outlet and do
not use the cord to carry the machine. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges
and/or moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the
risk of electric shock.
10. Never touch plugs or tools with wet hands. Keep all electrical connectors dry and off
ground to reduce risk of electric shock.
11. Use machine’s rate power to specify fuses on your power supply. Never use other metal
wires to replace the specified fuses. Failure to follow this rule may cause serious injury or
even death.
Personal Safety
1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
medication. A moment of inattention while operating machines may result in serious
personal injury.
2. Wear proper working suit, rubber-soled non-slip shoes, safety glasses, dust mask, hard hat,
hearing protection and leather gloves when operating the machine. Failure to do so may
cause serious injury or even death.
Never grasp a rotating cable with a rag or cloth glove. Grasping the
rotational cable may cause hand or fingers to be caught on the cable and lead to
personal injury.
3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to
a power source and/or battery pack and before picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying
machines with your finger on the switch or energizing machines that have the switch on
invites accidents.
4. Keep hands away from the rotating drum and distributing cone. Do not reach into the
drum unless the machine is unplugged. Your hand may be caught in the moving parts
resulting in serious injury.
5. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
6. Remove any adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a
key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
7. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control
of the power tool in unexpected situations.
Operation Safety
1. Do not operate this machine if you are not trained to do so. Non-experienced operators
can lead to more accidental injuries or deaths.
2. This machine is designed for one-person operation.
3. Position the machine within one foot of drain operation. Greater distances can result in
cable twisting or kinking.
4. Do not hold the Power Switch while trying to plug in the machine. This could cause an

accidental start of machine.
5. Do not use the machine if the power switch does not function properly.
6. Do not let the machine work in Reverse rotation. Operating machine in Reverse rotation
can result in cable damage. The Reverse option is only used for retracting cable out of an
obstruction and should only be applied instantly on and then quickly off.
7. Do not force the cable into a pipe. Overstressing the cable because of an obstruction may
cause twisting, kinking, or breaking of the cable and may result in serious injury.
8. Disconnect the plug from the power source first before cleaning the working area or
performing any maintenance work. This can prevent accidently starting the tool.
9. Use the power tool, accessories, tool bits, etc., in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the
power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous
situation.
Tool Use and Care Safety
1. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained people. Tools are dangerous in
the hands of untrained users.
2. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools
with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
3. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other
condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before
using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
4. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on
another tool.
5. Keep handles dry and clean, free from oil and grease.
6. Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance
performed by unqualified repair personnel could result in injury.
7. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the
maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow
Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury.
8. Maintain and check the machine routinely. Make sure all electrical wires and parts are
working properly. Never use the machine when it is malfunctioning.
Specific Safety Information
1. Wear leather gloves that are provided with the machine.
2. Be careful when cleaning drains where cleaning chemicals have been used. Avoid direct
contact with skin and eyes. Drain cleaning chemicals can cause serious burns as well as
damage to the cable.
3. Do not operate the machine when standing in water. This will increase risk of electrical
shock.
4. Wear safety glasses and rubber-soled, non-slip shoes. Use of this safety equipment may
prevent serious injury.

Disassembling and Cable Change
Please unplug the power cord before further
action.
Disassembling to Change Inner Drum
The machine was designed for easy cable change by changing the
inner drum. The cable resides in the inner drum that is inside the
outer drum. To change the cable, follow these steps:
1. Remove the four screws that hold the drum cover to the front
of outer drum.
2. Pull the drum cover with the handgrip away from the drum
back. Meanwhile, let the cable slip out through the hand grip
and the drum cover.
3. Take the inner drum out from the outer drum. To change cable
in the inner drum, follow Steps 4 to 7.
4. Pull the whole cable out of the inner drum.
5. Uncoil the new cable completely with caution. Note: The coil is
under tension and could strike.
6. Bend the cable end as shown in the figure on the right.
7. Wind the cable into the inner drum clockwise.
8. Reverse Steps 1 through 5 to assemble the drum set.
Cable Change without Disassembling
The cable can be changed by simply pulling the old cable out from
the front of machine and then pushing the new cable in. Before
pushing in, bend the pushing-in end a little to make the work easier.
Cable Cutter removal and Connection
22XP37 has a cable that allows cutter change. To change the cutter
or add an extension cable, follow these steps.
1. Disconnect the cutter or extension cable from the cable by
pushing the key tip into the hole on the cable connector. The
two parts will come loose.
2. Slide the male coupling end on the cable into the notch of the
female coupling end on the cutter from the chamfered side
until a click is heard.
If you cannot slide the male end into the notch on
the female end from one direction, then try to do it in the
other direction. This is because the bottom of the notch on
the female end is an oblique plane.

Operation
Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and other appropriate protective equipment when operating
the drain cleaner.
It is extremely important to be aware of these precautions and to perform these
inspections. DO NOT use the machine if any damaged, torn or worn parts are found. Replace them
with genuine parts before use. Failure to do this may cause serious injuries or even death.
Set-Up
1. Inspect gloves provided with this machine to make sure
they are in good condition. Improper or damaged
gloves could be caught in the rotating cable and cause
injuries or death.
2. Inspect the cable for any damage or wear. A cable that
is improperly used or damaged will twist, kink, or
break, which may induce injuries or more serious
problems.
3. While the machine is unplugged, inspect the power
cord for any cuts or wear. Inspect the GFCI and the
plug for any damages.
4. Inspect all controls and handles for any damages or improper functions and make sure they are
free of grease or oil, which may cause slips and induce improper operation.
5. Inspect the machine for any improper assembly, loose parts, unsmooth motion, torn labels,
abnormal look, or any conditions that may indicate an unsafe and abnormal operation.
6. Inspect the cutter(s) for any dullness or damage.
7. Plug in the machine and test GFCI with the procedure given in the Electric Safety section to make
sure it works properly.
8. Put the Rotation Switch to FORWARD position (index finger side in). Depress the Power Switch
and make sure the drum turns in the FORWARD direction (For 22XP35, do not press
the Cable Feeder Lever down). If the Power Switch does not start the machine, do not use the
machine until the switch has been repaired. Move the Rotation Switch to REV to test if the drum
turns in the opposite direction.
9. For 22XP35 with Cable Feeder, turn the Cable Feeder Actuator on the Cable Feeder Front to F (for
forward feeding). Put the Rotation Switch to FORWARD. Push the Cable Feeder Lever down and
depress the Power Switch to test if the Cable moves forward. Improper moving or non-motion
may indicate a damaged Cable Feeder. If the Cable Feeder does not work properly, make sure the
testing steps are performed correctly. Clean the Cable Feeder components by following the steps
given in the Maintenance section. Then repeat the test for proper operation.

Drain Cleaning Guns
Operations for 22XP36 and 22XP37 with manual feeder:
1. Put the Rotation Switch to FORWARD.
2. Move the handgrip away from the drum to
release the Chuck that may grab the cable. With
a gloved hand, push the cable into the drain as
far as possible until resistance is felt.
3. Make sure at least 12” of cable is in the drain and
the section of cable from the drain opening to
machine is within 12”.
4. Move the handgrip to the drum with certain
force to let the Grabbing Chuck hold up the cable.
5. Trigger the Power Switch to let the drum turn.
6. Release the Power Switch.
7. Move the handgrip away from the drum to release the chuck from the cable.
8. Grip the cable with your gloved hand to prevent it from pulling out of the drain and pull the
drain cleaner back to have more cable come out of the drum while making sure no more than
12" of cable is exposed. Repeat the above steps to continue advancing the cable in this manner.
9. Feed the cable slowly and carefully when you notice the cable feed becomes slow or the cable
starts to wind or load up outside the drain. This is an indication of trap, elbow, soft build-up
materials like grease, or the actual blockage. Do not let cable build up outside the drain. Too
much cable fed into the drain may give a similar feeling.
10. For tougher resistance, sharp thrusts of the cable - with or without rotation, can help the cable
through a trap. Running the drain cleaner in reverse rotation for several seconds while pushing
on the cable may also help with the feeding.
Only do this shortly and repeatedly. Running the machine in reverse for a long
period of time can damage the cable.
11. If the end of the cable is stuck in the blockage, with the chuck gripping the cable, pull back on
the drain cleaner to free the cable end from the blockage. Applying momentary reverse
operation may help with the cable-freeing effort.
12. Feed the freed cable end back into the blockage slowly and let the cutter work on the blockage
for a longer time with less force pushing on.
13. Continue or repeat the above steps until the pipe is cleaned.
14. To retract the cable, run water to help with the pulling.
15. Put the Rotation Switch to FOR. Move the handgrip towards the drum to let the chuck grab the
cable. Pull the cable out of the drain while holding the Power Switch to let the drum rotate
slowly. The rotation makes the retrieving easier.
Do not let the cable expose more than 12”.
16. Release the Power switch. Pull the handgrip forward to release the chuck from the cable. Grip
the cable with your gloved hand close to the drain opening (to prevent it from pushing back into
the drain) and push the cable back into the drum.
17. Repeat the above steps to continue the retrieving process until the whole cable is out.

Operations for 22XP35 with Cable Feeder:
1. Put the Rotation Switch to FOR.
2. Make sure that at least 12” of cable is in the drain
and the section of cable from the drain opening to
machine is within 12” and that the cable outside the
drain cleaner is no more than 6" from the drain
opening.
3. Move the handgrip away from drum to release the
chuck from the cable. Do not engage chuck while
using Cable Feeder.
4. Depress the Power Switch to let the drum turn
while gently pushing down the Cable Feeder Lever
to let the cable smoothly work its way into the drain.
5. Release the Power Switch when the cable outside
the drain opening becomes short.
6. Grip the cable with your gloved hand to prevent it
from pulling out of the drain and pull the machine
back to have more cable come out of the drum while
making sure no more than 12" of cable is exposed.
Repeat the above steps to continue advancing the
cable in this manner.
7. Feed the cable slowly and carefully when you notice
the cable feed becomes slow or the cable starts to
wind or load up outside the drain. This is an indication
of trap, elbow, soft build-up materials like grease, or
the actual blockage. Do not let cable build up outside the drain. Too much cable fed into the
drain may give a similar feeling.
8. For tougher resistance, sharp thrusts of the cable - with or without rotation, can help the cable
through a trap. Running the drain cleaner in REVERSE rotation for several seconds while pushing
on the cable may also help with the feeding.
Only do this shortly and repeatedly. Running the cable in reverse for a long period
of time can damage the cable.
9. If the end of the cable is stuck in the blockage, with the chuck gripping the cable, pull back on
the drain cleaner to free the cable from the blockage. Applying momentary reverse rotation
operation may help with the cable-freeing effort.
10. Feed the freed cable back into the blockage slowly. When the blockage is felt, release the Cable
Feeder Lever to stop the auto-feeding. Let the cutter work on the blockage for a longer time
with less force pushing in.
11. Continue or repeat the above steps until the pipe is cleaned.
12. To retract the cable, run water to help with the pulling.
13. Put the Rotation Switch to FOR. Release the chuck and turn the Cable Feeder Actuator to R (for
retracting). Depress the Power Switch to let the drum rotate. Push the Cable Feeder Lever
down to let the cable work its way out.
Do not let the cable expose more than 12”.

14. Release the Power Switch. Grip the cable near the drain opening with your gloved hand (to
prevent it from pushing back into the drain) and push the cable back into the drum.
15. Repeat the above steps to continue the retrieving process until the whole cable is out.
Release the Power Switch before the cable end comes out of the drain. Do not pull
the end of the cable from the drain while the cable is rotating.
Special Operations When Cable Gets Caught in Line
The motor can be set in reverse direction to free the cable if it gets caught in the line by using the
following procedure:
1. Set the Rotation Switch to REV position.
2. Pull the cable while the drum is rotating in REV direction.
3. When the cable is freed, set the Rotation Switch to FOR position.
Do not run machine in Reverse rotation direction for more than a few seconds at
a time since this could cause tangling in the drum or kinking.
Special Operations When Cable Tangles in Drum
To untangle cable, rotate drum in the opposite direction. This will usually get the cable to lie in the
drum properly.
If cable becomes severely tangled, which should not occur when used properly, it may need a skilled
technician to straighten it.

Major Maintenance, Service and Part Replacement
Have your machine serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the machine is maintained.
To keep your machine operating smoothly, it is essential that all bearings and distributing cone
bushings be lubricated. Cleaning and oiling moving parts is particularly important if the machine
comes in contact with sand, grit and other abrasive material.
Cable Maintenance
To obtain the maximum service from your cables, be sure that they are clean and well oiled. This not
only provides smooth operation but greatly extends the life of the cables as well. Some users
periodically pour oil directly into the drum. As the drum turns, the
cables get complete lubrication.
Cable-Feeder Maintenance (For 22XP35 only)
Keep Cable-Feeder free of excessive soil and grit. It is recommended
that the Cable-Feeder be flushed with fresh water followed by a light
oiling of the moving parts. No disassembly is normally required. If
dirt is hard enough to stop roller rotation and flushing it with water
cannot restore its function, then
disassembly of the Cable Feeder becomes
necessary. Though it is recommended to
have this completed by a trained
technician, one can complete it by
following these steps:
1. Remove the Pivot Pin on the Cable
Feeder Lever and take off the lever.
(Refer Picture Step 1)
2. Remove 2 Holding Screws above the
Cable Feeder Housing in the Lever
Holder (refer Picture Step 2a) and 2
Holding Screws below the Cable
Feeder Housing (refer Picture Step 2b).
Then take off the Cable Feeder
Activator and the Housing Gate.
3. Remove the Switch Pin Screw on the
Sliding Roller Holder and pull off the roller set from above the
Cable Feeder Housing. (Refer Pictures Step 3a and Step 3b)
4. Remove the Switch Pin Screws on the Stationery Roller Holders
and pull off the roller sets from the opening below the Cable
Feeder Housing. (Refer Picture Step 4)
5. Clean all parts in the Cable Feeder.
6. Lubricate all parts with proper lubrication oil, such as SAE
10W-30.
7. Reverse the above steps to re-assemble Cable Feeder.
