INSTALLATION AND OPERATION ANUAL
Whale® Orca Auto 1300
Thank you for purchasing this Whale® product. or over 40 years, Whale® has led the way in the
design and manufacture of freshwater and waste systems including: pumps, plumbing, faucets and
showers for low voltage applications.
IC - Intelligent Control Technology
At the heart of every Whale® IC product lies innovative electronic control circuitry built in. This
sensor technology is built into Orca Auto 1300 and means no separate bilge switch is required.
Orca Auto 1300
The Orca Auto 1300 is an automatic submersible bilge pump for use in marine vessels. Output
capacity depends on installation and operating conditions.
Read the following instructions carefully.
Check that the product is suitable for the intended application, follow these installation instructions
and ensure all relevant personnel read the points listed below. Also ensure that these operating
instructions are passed on to the end user.
Orca Auto 1300 is designed for installation in recreational marine vessels only and operated on 12V
d.c. (BE1482) or 24 V d.c. (BE1484) electrical supply only. If it is intended for use for any other
purpose or with any other liquid, it is the user's responsibility to ensure that the pump is suitable for
the intended use and, in particular, that the materials are fully compatible with the liquids to be used.
The Orca Auto 1300 is not recommended for domestic applications.
The Orca Auto is recommended to have a Duty Cycle of 60%
•NOTE The outlet must not be mounted below the water line.
• This pump is not suitable for pumping flammable liquids, diesel, chemicals
etc. Suitable for bilge water only.
•NOTE: Bilge pump capacities may not be sufficient to prevent flooding from

rapid accumulation of water due to storms, rough weather and/ or rapid leaks created by hull
damage and or unsafe navigational conditions.
• With all applications, it is important that a system of safe working practice is applied to
installation, use and maintenance. In order to securely fasten the unit, ensure that the
mounting surface is a minimum thickness of 19mm (3/4") (when fitted with the screws
supplied).
•NOTE Do not screw directly to the hull. This pump must be mounted on a bulkhead or on an
additional board.
•WARNING: ire hazard. Wiring must comply with applicable electrical standards and include
a properly rated fuse or circuit breaker. Improper wiring can cause a fire resulting in injury or
death. Switch off the power while making connections.
Suggested wiring information is given as a guide only. or full information, refer to the USCG, ABYC
and ISO regulations for marine applications and wiring gauges, connectors and fuse protection.

NOTE: Incorrect installation will invalidate warranty
Preparation - Always disconnect power sources before installation.
9.i Location
• Choose a position to mount the pump that is dry and away from standing water and is free
from obstacles.
•Mount in a position with the shortest possible pipe run lengths.
9.ii ounting Instructions
• To remove pump body, place hand over body, depress
locking tabs (eyes) and lift body from strainer base ( igure
1). NOTE: Motor will be removed with body
•Use base as template to mark 3 mounting holes in
mounting pad.
•Drill 1/8" (3mm) pilot holes. NOTE: do not drill through hull;
ensure that the Orca is mounted securely to additional
board or bulkhead.
• Use 25mm (1”) or 28mm (1 1/8”) smooth bore reinforced
hose to connect to the strainer with hose clips.
•Replace base. Attach with #8 stainless steel fasteners (supplied).
•Re-attach pump body to base. Insert body into strainer base, until base tabs snap into holes.
9.iii Plumbing
For optimal performance: The hose must rise continually upward to the thru-hull connector with no
dips or sharp bends. Hose support clips should be used at regular intervals where necessary.
•Orientate the pump outlet for a direct path
to the hull connector ensuring an
unobstructed hose path.
•Secure all connections with hose clamps.
•If no thru-hull connector exists, install at
12" (25mm) minimum height above
water line. Apply marine sealant around
thru-hull flanges on interior and exterior
of hull.

9.iv Electrical Wiring
Ensure all wire connections are at the highest level above water. Use marine grade
wire connectors only and 16 AWG tinned copper wire. Waterproof all connections
with suitable materials (see figure 3).
• Connect positive (+) brown
and white stripe wire to the
automatic side of the switch.
• Connect negative (-) black
wire to ground.
• Connect yellow crimp to
manual side of switch. DO
NOT disconnect the brown
and white solid wires from the
yellow crimp.
•Install a fuse holder within 72"
(183cm) of the positive (+)
battery terminal.
•To test system, feed water into
the pump. If flow rate appears
low, ensure wires are connected properly:
Brown and white stripe to positive Black to negative (battery)
NOTE - Reversed wiring reduces performance and can cause pump failure.
• If you are not familiar with applicable electrical standards, ensure that the unit is installed by
a qualified electrician/ technician.
WARNING: ire hazard. Wiring must comply with applicable electrical standards and include a
properly rated fuse or circuit breaker. Improper wiring can cause a fire resulting in injury or death.
NOTE Switch off the power prior to making connections. Suggested wiring information is given as a
guide only. or full information, refer to the USCG, ABYC and ISO regulations for marine
applications and wiring gauges, connectors and fuse protection.
9.v FITTING THE FUSE
use rating for BE1482 (12V d.c.) pumps - 7.5 Amp automotive.
use rating for BE1484 (24V d.c.) pumps - 5 Amp automotive
An in-line fuse assembly must be fitted to the positive side of the pump.
PURPOSE OF FUSE: The purpose of this fuse is to protect the pump from serious damage in the
event of system blockages, therefore please ensure all valves are fully open before operating the
pump.
This Whale Orca Auto 1300 is designed to only require minimal maintenance.
Annual Checks
• Whale advise that the boat's plumbing system is checked at least annually for leaks and
obstructions. Also an electrics check including testing the pump is advisable.
Optimal Performance
• Ensure this product is clear of debris
WARNING: Do not use abrasive cleaners.

11. TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES POTENTIAL SOLUTION
Pump runs but
does not pump
water / pulses
Hose may have
blockage or airlock
Clear the hose of any blockages and ensure that outlet
hose runs upward to the thru-hull connector, with no
dips
Impeller may be
restricted
Remove pump housing from base. Remove debris from
chamber and impeller. Ensure that the impeller is firmly
attached to shaft and is not cracked or broken
Pump does not run Blown fuse Ensure electrical connections and fuse are waterproof
and have not loosened
Motor speed variation
when running dry
Some variation is normal but ensure that the yellow crimp has not been
removed or that the brown and white wires have been shortened
(normally 1m long)
The fuse blows
a) Check that all system valves/stop cocks are open
b) Check that the inlet and outlet ports are not blocked
c) Check that the rest of the system is not blocked
d) Check for reverse polarity connection
