Read the followin instructions carefully before operatin your printer. Refer to these instructions to
ensure the continued safe operation of your printer.
Your Xerox®printer and supplies are desi ned and tested to meet strict safety requirements. These
include safety a ency evaluation and certification, and compliance with electroma netic re ulations
and established environmental standards.
The safety and environment testin and performance of this product have been verified usin Xerox®
materials only.
Note: Unauthorized alterations, which can include the addition of new functions or connection
of external devices, can affect the product certification. For more information, contact your
Xerox representative.

General Guidelines
WARNING: Do not push objects into slots or openin s on the printer. Touchin a volta e point
or shortin out a part could result in fire or electric shock.
WARNING: Do not remove the covers or uards that are fastened with screws unless you are
installin optional equipment and are instructed to do so. Power off the printer when
performin these installations. Disconnect the power cord when removin covers and uards for
installin optional equipment. Except for user-installable options, there are no parts that you
can maintain or service behind these covers.
The followin are hazards to your safety:
• The power cord is dama ed or frayed.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• The printer emits smoke, or the surface is unusually hot.
• The printer emits unusual noise or odors.
• The printer causes a circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device to activate.

If any of these conditions occur, do the followin :
1. Power off the printer immediately.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Call an authorized service representative.
Power Cord
Use the power cord supplied with your printer.
WARNING: To avoid risk of fire or electrical shock, do not use extension cords, power strips, or
power plu s.
• Plu the power cord directly into a properly rounded electrical outlet. Ensure that each end of the
cord is connected securely. If you do not know if an outlet is rounded, ask an electrician to check
the outlet.
• Do not use a round adapter plu to connect the printer to an electrical outlet that does not have
a round connection terminal.
• Verify that the printer is plu ed into an outlet that is providin the correct volta e and power.
Review the electrical specification of the printer with an electrician if necessary.
• Secure the power cord in place usin the bracket provided with the printer.
• Do not place the printer in an area where people can step on the power cord.
• Do not place objects on the power cord.
• Do not plu or unplu the power cord while the power switch is in the On position.
• If the power cord becomes frayed or worn, replace it.
• To avoid electrical shock and dama e to the cord, rasp the plu when unplu in the power
cord.
The power cord is attached to the printer as a plu -in device on the back of the printer. If it is
necessary to disconnect all electrical power from the printer, disconnect the power cord from the
electrical outlet.
Emergency Power Off
If any of the followin conditions occur, power off the printer immediately and disconnect the power
cord from the electrical outlet. Contact an authorized Xerox service representative to correct the
problem if:
• The equipment emits unusual odors or makes unusual noises.
• The power cable is dama ed or frayed.
• A wall panel circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device has been tripped.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• Any part of the printer is dama ed.
Telephone ine Cord
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, use only No. 26 American Wire Gau e (AWG) or lar er
telecommunication line cord.

Your attention to the followin safety uidelines helps to ensure the continued, safe operation of your
printer.
Operational Guidelines
• Do not remove any trays when the printer is printin .
• Do not open the doors when the printer is printin .
• Do not move the printer when it is printin .
• Keep hands, hair, neckties, and so on, away from the exit and feed rollers.
• Covers, which require tools for removal, protect the hazard areas within the printer. Do not remove
the protective covers.
• Do not override any electrical or mechanical interlock devices.
• Do not attempt to remove paper that is jammed deeply inside the printer. Switch off the printer
promptly and contact your local Xerox representative.
WARNING: The metallic surfaces in the fuser area are hot. Always use caution when removin
paper jams from this area and avoid touchin any metallic surfaces.
WARNING: To avoid a tip hazard, do not push or move the device with all the paper trays
extended.
Ozone Release
This printer produces ozone durin normal operation. The amount of ozone produced is dependent on
copy volume. Ozone is heavier than air and is not produced in amounts lar e enou h to harm anyone.
Install the printer in a well-ventilated room.

Printer ocation
• Place the printer on a level, solid, non-vibratin surface with adequate stren th to hold its wei ht.
To find the wei ht for your printer confi uration, refer to Physical Specifications.
• Place the printer in an area where there is adequate space for operation and servicin .
• Place the printer in a dust-free area.
• Do not block or cover the slots or openin s on the printer. These openin s are provided for
ventilation and to prevent overheatin of the printer
• Do not store or operate the printer in an extremely hot, cold, or humid environment.
• Do not place the printer near a heat source.
• Do not place the printer in direct sunli ht to avoid exposure to li ht-sensitive components.
• Do not place the printer where it is directly exposed to the cold air flow from an air conditionin
system.
• Do not place the printer in locations susceptible to vibrations.

• For optimum performance, use the printer at the elevations specified in Elevation.
Printer Supplies
• Use the supplies desi ned for your printer. The use of unsuitable materials can cause poor
performance and a possible safety hazard.
• Follow all warnin s and instructions marked on, or supplied with, the product, options, and
supplies.
• Store all consumables in accordance with the instructions iven on the packa e or container.
• Keep all consumables away from the reach of children.
• Never throw toner, toner cartrid es, drum cartrid es, or waste cartrid es into an open flame.
• When handlin cartrid es, for example toner and such, avoid skin or eye contact. Eye contact can
cause irritation and inflammation. Do not attempt to disassemble the cartrid e, which can
increase the risk of skin or eye contact.
Caution: Use of non-Xerox supplies is not recommended. The Xerox Warranty, Service
A reement, and Total Satisfaction Guarantee do not cover dama e, malfunction, or
de radation of performance caused by use of non-Xerox supplies, or the use of Xerox supplies
not specified for this printer. The Total Satisfaction Guarantee is available in the United States
and Canada. Covera e could vary outside these areas. Please contact your Xerox representative
for details.

• Do not attempt any maintenance procedure that is not specifically described in the
documentation supplied with your printer.
• Clean with a dry lint-free cloth only.
• Do not burn any consumables or routine maintenance items. For information on Xerox®supplies

WARNING: Do not use aerosol cleaners. Aerosol cleaners can cause explosions or fires when
used on electromechanical equipment.
When installin the device in a hallway or similar restricted area, additional space requirements can
apply. Ensure that you comply with all workspace safety re ulations, buildin codes, and fire codes for
your area.

Document Glass Guidelines
The document lass accommodates ori inal size documents up to 297 x 432 mm (11.7 x 17.1 in.).
Use the document lass rather than the duplex automatic document feeder to copy or scan the
followin types of ori inal documents:
• Paper with paper clips or staples attached
• Paper with wrinkles, curls, folds, tears, or notches
• Coated or carbonless paper or items other than paper, such as cloth or metal
• Envelopes
• Books
Duplex Automatic Document Feeder Guidelines
The Duplex Automatic Document Feeder accommodates the followin ori inal-size documents:
• Width: 49–297 mm (1.9–11.7 in.)
• Len th: 85–431.8 mm (8.5–17 in.)
• Wei ht: 38–128 /m²
Follow these uidelines when loadin ori inal documents into the duplex automatic document feeder:
• Load ori inal documents face up, so that the top of the document enters the feeder first.
• Only use loose sheets of undama ed paper in the duplex automatic document feeder.
• Adjust the paper uides to fit the ori inal documents.
• Insert paper in the duplex automatic document feeder only when ink on the paper is dry.
• Do not load ori inal documents above the MAX fill line.

Control Panel
The control panel consists of a touch screen and buttons you press to control the functions available
on the printer. The control panel:
• Displays the current operatin status of the printer.
• Provides access to print, copy, and scan features.
• Provides access to reference materials.
• Provides access to Tools and Setup menus.
• Prompts you to load paper, replace supplies, and clear jams.
• Displays errors and warnin s.
• Provides the Power/Wake button used for powerin on or off the printer. This button also supports
the power-saver modes, and blinks to indicate the power status of the printer.

1 Power/Wake Button This button serves several power-related functions.
When the printer is powered off, this button powers on the
printer.
When the printer is powered on, pressin this button displays a
menu on the control panel. From this menu, you can choose to
enter Sleep mode, restart, or power off the printer.
When the printer is powered on, but in a low-power mode or
Sleep mode, pressin this button wakes the printer.
When the printer is powered on, holdin this button for 10-
seconds turns off the printer.
This button blinks to indicate the power status of the printer.
When the li ht blinks slowly, the printer is in low-power mode
or Sleep mode.
When the li ht blinks rapidly, the printer is powerin down, or
exitin a low-power mode.
2 Touch Screen Display The screen displays information and provides access to printer
functions.
3 Home Button This button provides access to the Home menu for access to
printer features, such as copy, scan, and fax.
4 NFC Area
(Optional)
Near Field Communication (NFC), is a technolo y that enables
devices to communicate when they are within 10 cm (4 in.) of
each other. Use the NFC area to obtain a network interface or
to establish a TCP/IP connection between your device and the
printer.
Note: The indicator is visible when NFC is activated.
5 Status LED This li ht blinks blue or amber to indicate printer status.
Blue
Blinks blue once to acknowled e a successful Authentication
request.
Blinks blue once slowly for a copy or print job initiated at the
control panel.
Blinks blue twice slowly for fax or print job received from the
network.
Blinks blue rapidly while the printer is powerin up, or to si nal
detection of a Wi-Fi Direct connection request.
Amber
Blinks amber to indicate an error condition or warnin that
requires your attention. For example, an out of toner condition,
a paper jam, or out of paper for the current job.
It also blinks amber to indicate a system error, which typically
is associated with an error code.

6 Notification Banner Notifications and messa es are displayed in a pop-up banner
below the apps area. To view the full notification, touch the
center of the banner. After you have reviewed the information,
touch Xto close.
7 Pause Icon When a job is bein scanned or processed, a Pause icon
appears in the notification banner area. To pause the current
job, touch the Pause icon. The job pauses with the option to
resume or delete the job.

Accounting
Accountin monitors the print, copy, scan, and fax impressions produced and who produces them.
The system administrator must create user accounts and enable the accountin feature. When
accountin is enabled, you must lo in to the printer before accessin services. You must also provide
your account details in the print driver before printin documents from a computer. The system
administrator can set limits to restrict the total number of jobs by type that a user can produce. The
administrator can also enerate reports listin usa e data for individual users and roups.

ogging In
Lo in in is the process by which you identify yourself to the printer for authentication. If
authentication is set, to access printer features, you lo in with your user credentials.
ogging In at the Control Panel
1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
2. Touch og In.
3. Type the User Name usin the keypad, then touch Enter.
4. If prompted, enter the password, then touch Enter.

5. Touch OK.
Note: To access each password-protected service, enter the User Name and password.
Functions Related to NIST 800-171 for ocal Authentication
To improve critical cybersecurity infrastructure for or anizations, the National Institute of Standards
and Technolo y (NIST) in the United States created the Cybersecurity Framework (CSF). The system
administrator can chan e the NIST 800-171r2 compatible settin s throu h the Embedded Web
Server. The NIST 800-171r2 related functions include the followin features:

Prevent Reuse of User ID
The system administrator can confi ure the printer to prohibit the reuse of a previous user ID
value for a specified amount of time since the user ID was last used, from 1–999 days. The system
administrator can chan e the number of days throu h the Embedded Web Server.
Auto User ID Disablement
The printer disables the user accounts that have not lo ed in to the printer for a specified period.
The system administrator can specify the number of days, from 1–999 days. If your account is
locked after a period of time and you cannot access the printer, contact your system administrator
for assistance.
Password Complexity
When you chan e a password, the printer restricts the number of characters that you can reuse
from the previous password. The system administrator specifies the maximum number of
characters that can be reused, from 1–63. The printer rejects any new password that exceeds the
specified maximum number of reused characters. If you are chan in your password and
encounter an error, contact your system administrator and comply with the password complexity
requirements for your printer.
For example, if the maximum number of characters is set to 3 characters, a password of TEST123
cannot be chan ed to TEST444, because it contains four characters from the previous password.
A password of GOOD123 is valid, because it contains three characters from the previous password.
Reuse of Password
To prohibit the reuse of recent passwords, the system administrator can specify the interval before
a user can reuse a password. The interval ran e is from 1–10. If you are chan in your password
and encounter an error, contact your system administrator and comply with the password
complexity requirements for your printer.
Temporary Password
After the system administrator creates a user account or chan es or resets the account password
usin one of the followin options, when you lo in, the printer can prompt a password chan e:
•Add
•Edit
•Reset Password
When the option is enabled, the password set by the system administrator is re arded as a
temporary password. When you are lo ed in with a temporary password, the printer prompts you
to chan e the password. As a security feature, you are required to chan e your password before
the first lo in at the printer. Until the temporary password is chan ed, remote authentication
attempts throu h EIP or SNMP fail for the user. Contact your system administrator for assistance.
User Account ock-out
After a specified number of invalid lo in attempts for a user account, the printer locks out the
account. If you do not lo in to the printer for a lon period of time, your account can be disabled
automatically. Contact your system administrator for assistance.

Convenience Authentication
When Convenience Authorization is enabled, users swipe a pre-pro rammed identification card
throu h a Proximity Card Reader at the control panel. To use this method, purchase and install a USB
card reader and an authentication server that supports the Xerox®Convenience Authentication API.
Smart Card
When a Common Access Card system is installed on your Xerox device, access to the printer requires
the use of a Smart Card. There are several models of card readers that are compatible with your
device. To access the printer, insert the pre-pro rammed identification card into the reader, or place
your card on the reader. If extra security credentials are required, enter the lo in information at the
control panel.

IInnttrroodduuccttiioonn ttoo AA ss
Xerox Apps are a ateway to the features and functions of your device. Standard Apps are already
installed on the device and appear on the Home screen. Some Apps are installed as standard, but
hidden the first time you use the device.
When you lo in, the Apps confi ured for your personal account appear on the control panel.
You can download more Apps for your device from the Xerox®App Gallery. For more information,
refer to Xerox®App Gallery.
IInnffoorrmmaattiioonn PPaaggeess
Your printer has a set of information pa es that you can print. These pa es include confi uration and
font information, demonstration pa es, and more.
The followin Information Pa es are available:

Confi uration Report The Confi uration Report provides printer information
includin installed options, network settin s, port setup, tray
information, and more.
Billin Summary Report The Billin Summary Report provides information about the
device and a detailed listin of the billin meters and sheet
counts.
Supplies Usa e Report The Supplies Usa e Report provides covera e information and
part numbers for reorderin supplies.
PostScript Font List The PostScript Font List provides a printout of all PostScript
fonts that are available on the printer.
PCL Font List The PCL Font List provides a printout of all PCL fonts that are
available on the printer.

Demonstration Print Demonstration Print provides a demonstration of the current
print quality.
Startup Pa e The Startup Pa e provides basic printer confi uration and
network information.
Job History Report The printer retains information on previous print jobs, includin
the date, time, job type, document name, output color (for
color devices only), paper size, number of pa es, and results.
The status of a maximum of 200 jobs prints on the Job History
Report.
Printing Information Pages
1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
2. Touch Device > About > Information Pages.
3. To print an information pa e, touch the needed pa e.
4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.
Configuration Report
The Confi uration Report provides product information includin installed options, network settin s,
port setup, tray information, and more.
Printing the Configuration Report
1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
2. Touch Device > About > Information Pages.
3. Touch Configuration Report.
4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.
TThhee EEmmbbeeddddeedd WWeebb SSeerrvveerr
The Embedded Web Server is the administration and confi uration software that is installed in the
printer. It allows you to confi ure and administer the printer from a Web browser.
The Embedded Web Server requires:
• A TCP/IP connection between the printer and the network in Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, or Linux
environments.
• TCP/IP and HTTP enabled in the printer.
• A network-connected computer with a Web browser that supports JavaScript.
Accessing the Embedded Web Server
At your computer, open a Web browser. In the address field, type the IP address of the printer, then
press Enter or Return.

Finding the IP Address of Your Printer
To install the print driver for a network-connected printer, it is often necessary to know the IP address
of your printer. Also, the IP address is used to access the settin s of your printer throu h the
Embedded Web Server. You can view the IP address of your printer on the control panel or on the
Confi uration Report.
Note: To view the TCP/IP address on the control panel, wait until the printer has been on for 2
minutes. If the TCP/IP address is 0.0.0.0, or be ins with 169, it indicates a network connectivity
issue. However, if Wi-Fi is set as the primary Ethernet connection, 0.0.0.0 is displayed as the IP
address for the printer.
Viewing the IP Printer Address on the Control Panel
To view the IP address of the printer on the control panel:
1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
2. Touch Device > About.
3. Record the IP address from the display.
4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.
Obtaining the Printer IP Address from the Configuration Report
To obtain the printer IP address from the Confi uration Report:
1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
2. Touch Device > About > Information Pages.
3. Touch Configuration Report.
The IP address appears in the Connectivity section of the Confi uration Report for IPv4 or IPv6.
4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.
Certificates for the Embedded Web Server
Your device includes a self-si ned HTTPS certificate. The device enerates the certificate
automatically durin device installation. The HTTPS certificate is used to encrypt communications
between your computer and the Xerox device.
• The Embedded Web Server pa e for your Xerox device can display an error messa e that the
security certificate is not trusted. This confi uration does not lessen the security of the
communications between your computer and the Xerox device.
• To eliminate the connection warnin in your Web browser, you can replace the self-si ned
certificate with a si ned certificate from a Certificate Authority. For information on obtainin a
certificate from a Certificate Authority, contact your Internet Service Provider.
