Overview
Attention
This guide is intended to be followed in a linear fashion from the first chapter to the last
chapter.
The first section of this guide details a web threading process in six steps, which starts
at the right side of the CiPress™(the Infeed Module) and ends at the left side of the
CiPress™(the Outfeed Module).

Overview

Preparing the Infeed
Module for Threading
This section describes the web threading process for the highlighted section of the web
path.
1. Prepare the unwinder and any other external devices at the start of the Infeed Module.
Correctly align the physical position of the unwinder, turnbars, and finishing equipment
with the CiPress™. The unwinder should be powered on in the ready state, able to
feed paper as it is pulled through the web path.
2. Open the Infeed Module Front Door.

The Primary CiPress™is also known as the Upstream CiPress™in a Tandem or Duplex
configuration. When mentioned, The Secondary

CiPress™is also known as the Downstream CiPress™in a Tandem or Duplex
configuration.
3. Start with the edge of the web at the unwinder and cut a 45 degree angle across two
thirds of the sheet, leaving a straight edge about 76 mm (3 inches).
4. Provide paper slack by manually pulling the web about 3 to 5 meters (5 to 10 feet)
off of the unwinder. You need to perform this step throughout the web threading
process.
5. Place the web against the Web Positioning Label.

6. Open the Infeed Module end cover located at the right side of the Infeed Module to
access the Web Edge Guide.
7. To identify which metal tab to use on the Web Edge Guide for aligning and inserting
the web, refer to the label, also located on the Infeed Module, and perform the
following steps.

a) Begin at the right side of the guide and align the web edge at either the pinfeed
or pinless paper icon. To determine the correct metal tab to use for aligning the

web on the guide, refer to the appropriate CiPress™icon on either lower corner of
the label.
Left front metal tab (gold color from label) used to align the web for the
Secondary CiPress™.

Right front metal tab (blue color from label) used to align the web for the
Secondary CiPress™.

b) If the left edge of the web ends at the blue area on the label, use the metal tab
that corresponds with the blue arrow. If the web edge ends at the gold area, use
the metal tab that corresponds with the gold arrow.
8. Ensure that the Front and Rear Web Edge Guides are located against their respective
sides of the Infeed Module.
a) Loosen the thumb screw.
b) Move the Web Guide to the appropriate position.
c) Tighten the thumb screw.

9. Adjust the orientation of the Web Tension Adjuster by pulling up the pin and rotating
the Adjuster depending on the weight of the media being used.
