WT500 Power Analyzer
Pulse Output Function (/P17 Optional)
This user’s manual describes the pulse output function (/P17 optional) of the WT500 power analyzer. To ensure
correct use, please read this manual thoroughly along with the WT500 user’s manuals (IM760201-01E and
IM760201-17E).
1. Overview
/P17: The pulse output function
The pulse output function outputs pulse signals in proportion to the active power and reactive power
measurements.

2.1 Rear Panel

2.2 Power-on Settings and Configuration Switches
When the power is turned on, the voltage range is 100 V, the frequency filter is on, the key lock is
on, the synchronization source is the voltage signal, and the current range and wiring are set to
the values according to the following switch settings. All other settings are the same as the default
settings.

2.3 Pulse Output Specifications
2.3.1 Reference Pulse
• Active power

2.3.2 Standard Pulse

2.3.3 Pulse Output Range
Active power measurement: 0.5 W to 1999 W (0.25 W to 999.5 W for single-phase two-wire)
Reactive power measurement: 0.5 var to 1999 var (0.25 var to 999.5 var for single-phase two-
wire)
Reference pulse: 2.5 Hz to 9.995 kHz
Standard pulse: 0.00125 Hz to 4.9975 Hz
If the active power measurement is less than approximately 0.4 W (0.2 W for single-phase two-
wire), there is no reference or standard pulse output.
If the reactive power measurement is less than approximately 0.4 var (0.2 var for single-phase
two-wire), there is no reference or standard pulse output.
If the active power measurement is greater than approximately 2000 W (1000 W for single-phase
two-wire), standard pulses at approximately 10 kHz (reference pulses at approximately 5 Hz) are
output.
If the reactive power measurement is greater than approximately 2000 var (1000 var for single-
phase two-wire), standard pulses at approximately 10 kHz (reference pulses at approximately 5
Hz) are output.
* If the active power is negative, there is no reference or standard pulse output.
* If the reactive power is negative, pulses are output as same as when the reactive power is
positive.
2.3.4 Output Pulse Width
Reference pulse: 50 μsec (active low)
Standard pulse: Approx. 50% duty cycle
2.3.5 Pulse Output Format
Open collector output: 30 VDC, 10 mA max.
Voltage output: Open collector output pulled up internally to a +5 V power supply through 1 kΩ
2.3.6 Accuracy (ambient temperature 23°C)
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) Input: 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz/60 Hz, power factor 1/0.5 (lag/lead), three-phase three-wire input

2) Input: 100 V, 5 A, 50 Hz/60 Hz, power factor 1/0.5 (lag/lead), single-phase two-wire input

2.3.7 Stability
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) The difference between the maximum and minimum errors in the active power pulse output is
within ±0.05% after measuring 20 times at 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag).
2) The difference between the maximum and minimum errors in the active power pulse output is
within ±0.05% after measuring 20 times at 110 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and power factor of 0.5 (lag).
2.3.8 Current Characteristics
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) At 110 V, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference between the maximum and minimum
errors in the active power pulse output is within ±0.2% when 2.5 A, 5 A, and 6 A are applied.
2) At 110 V, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference between the maximum and
minimum errors in the active power pulse output is within ±0.2% when 2.5 A, 5 A, and 6 A are
applied.
3) At 110 V, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference between the maximum and minimum
errors in the active power pulse output is within ±0.2% when 2.5 A, 5 A, and 6 A are applied.
4) At 110 V, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference between the maximum and
minimum errors in the active power pulse output is within ±0.2% when 2.5 A, 5 A, and 6 A are
applied.
2.3.9 Voltage Characteristics
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) At 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output errors
when 99 V and 110 V are applied and that when 110 V and 121 V are applied are within 0.1%.
2) At 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse output
errors when 99 V and 110 V are applied and that when 110 V and 121 V are applied are within
0.1%.
3) At 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output errors
when 99 V and 110 V are applied and that when 110 V and 121 V are applied are within 0.1%.
4) At 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse output
errors when 99 V and 110 V are applied and that when 110 V and 121 V are applied are within
0.1%.
2.3.10 Self-Heating Characteristics
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) At 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors immediately after the power is applied and after 30 minutes is within ±0.1%, and the
difference in the active power pulse output errors after 30 minutes and after 120 minutes is
within ±0.05%.
2) At 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse
output errors immediately after the power is applied and after 30 minutes is within ±0.1%, and
the difference in the active power pulse output errors after 30 minutes and after 120 minutes is
within ±0.05%.
3) At 110 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors immediately after the power is applied and after 30 minutes is within ±0.1%, and the
difference in the active power pulse output errors after 30 minutes and after 120 minutes is
within ±0.05%.
4) At 110 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse
output errors immediately after the power is applied and after 30 minutes is within ±0.1%, and
the difference in the active power pulse output errors after 30 minutes and after 120 minutes is
within ±0.05%.

2.3.11 Temperature Characteristics
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) At 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors at 10°C and 20°C and that at 20°C and 30°C are within ±0.1%.
2) At 110 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse
output errors at 10°C and 20°C and that at 20°C and 30°C are within ±0.1%.
3) At 110 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors at 10°C and 20°C and that at 20°C and 30°C are within ±0.1%.
4) At 110 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse
output errors at 10°C and 20°C and that at 20°C and 30°C are within ±0.1%.
2.3.12 Frequency Characteristics
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, three-phase three-wire system
1) At 110 V, 5 A, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output errors at
47.5 Hz and 50 Hz and that at 50 Hz and 52.5 Hz are within ±0.05%.
2) At 110 V, 5 A, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse output
errors at 47.5 Hz and 50 Hz and that at 50 Hz and 52.5 Hz are within ±0.05%.
3) At 110 V, 5 A, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output errors at
57 Hz and 60 Hz and that at 60 Hz and 63 Hz are within ±0.05%.
4) At 110 V, 5 A, and a power factor of 0.5 (lag), the difference in the active power pulse output
errors at 57 Hz and 60 Hz and that at 60 Hz and 63 Hz are within ±0.05%.
2.3.13 Unbalance between Input Elements
Settings: 100 V range, 5 A range, single-phase three-wire system
1) At 100 V, 5 A, 50 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors when power is applied only to input element 1 and when power is applied only to input
element 2 is within ±0.1%.
2) At 100 V, 5 A, 60 Hz, and a power factor of 1, the difference in the active power pulse output
errors when power is applied only to input element 1 and when power is applied only to input
element 2 is within ±0.1%.
* Tested with the gate time of the pulse output counter set to 1 s
