If you are refilling a cartridge that came free with
the printer you will need to purchase a reset gear.
When to refill:
The printer asks for the toner cartridge to be changed before all of the toner has been used. This is a
waste of toner and your money. Resetting the cartridge – this will force the printer to use up all of the
remaining toner in cartridge! This method is detailed in the printer’s engineers manual.
Ignore “Toner Low Message”
Reset at “Replace Toner Message” (Machine refuses to print).
How to reset via the printers control panel
• Open the front cover of your Brother laser printer where you access the toner cartridges.
• Press the Clear / Back button until you see the toner menus appear on the small LCD
screen
• Press the arrow keys in order to navigate through to the toner cartridges you need to
reset
• Hit “OK” to reset the toner cartridges that report as empty.
• Press 1 to reset the cartridge
• Scroll through and repeat for each toner cartridges colour that reports empty.
• Exit the menu and close the cover
Once you have reset the cartridge you can continue to print until the colours fade from your
prints. When you are not happy with the print quality then refill your cartridge.
