1 INSTALLATION
To obtain the optimum performance from your ZVR-500 follow the installation guidelines below.
WARNING THIS EQUIPMENT CONTAINS HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES
THIS EQUIPMENT MUST BE EARTHED TO PREVENT FIRE OR SHOCK
HAZARD
DO NOT EXPOSE THIS EQUIPMENT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE
Site the ZVR-500 in a suitable location. If you have a PCB format version fix it using the five mounting holes
(one at each corner of the PCB and one adjacent to IC16) provided.
If you have ordered the ZVR-500 in PCB format unpack the receiver and check the contents against the list
below.
♦ ZVR-500PCB
♦ TRANSFORMER 20V 100VA
1-1 LINK SETTINGS
LK1 Fit to restore default Configuration.Default configuration will be restored whenever the ZVR-500 is
powered-up.This Link should be removed after initial power-up and self-test.
LK2 Used to select Alarm contact type.
Fit N/C for Normally Closed Contacts
Fit N/O for Normally Open Contacts
Fit TERM for Supervised Alarms
LK3 Used to select the Control Method
Fit RS422 for Twisted Pair Control
Fit COAX for VICTA Control
Fit COAX + RS422 for Twisted Pair Control and Alarm Reporting via VICTA
1-2 CONNECTING THE ZVR-500
Connect up the ZVR-500 in accordance with the accompanying wiring diagram, paying special attention to
the maximum ratings and the notes below.
01 The ZVR-500 MUST be Earthed at the AC input supply terminal.
02 NEVER run cables directly under the PCB as this may interfere with the operation of the
Telemetry receiver and other camera head equipment.
03 ALWAYS use Screened cables for low voltage and signal cables ensuring the screen is connected
to 0V or Earth.
04 AVOID looming cables of differing characteristics together E.G. Video cables with cables carrying
mains power.
05 If the ZVR-500 is to be operated over twisted pair cable ensure the screen is connected to 0v
06 If N/O alarms are selected link-out unsed inputs to the alarm common
07 The maximum cable run for Twisted Pair is typically 2Km
08 The maximum cable run for VICTA is typically 750m
09 The maximum number of Telemetry Receivers that can be connected to a driver output is 30
10 The cable used to wire the secondary of the transformer should be a minimum of 0-5mm2

11 Observe the polarity of the brake wiring.Incorrect connection will result in vibration when coming
out of a mechanical end stop
To test the ZVR-500 locally press the SELF-TEST switch for approximately 3 seconds. The ZVR-500 will
then perform a self test cycle exercising each function in turn.Status LED’s are provided for +5V,VICTA
Comms,RS422 Comms,Zoom and Focus.
1-3 ADDRESS SETTINGS
If the ZVR-500 is to be controlled over twisted pair cable the address will need to be set to correspond with
the camera numbering scheme. To set the Camera address follow the procedure below. The default address
is 1.
01 Power-up the ZVR-500 with the SELF-TEST switch held down until the MAC Programming menu
appears
02 Press and release the SELF-TEST switch. Each press will increment the camera address by one.
03 If the SELF-TEST switch is held down the camera address will increment automatically.
04 When the desired camera address is displayed, power-down the ZVR-500.The address has now
been stored.
05 If the required camera address is lower than the displayed camera address power-down the ZVR-
500 and repeat the procedure from step 01.The camera address always reverts to address 1 with
the first press of the SELF-TEST switch.
1-4 ADJUSTMENTS
AUTO-IRIS ADJUSTMENT
01 Point the camera at an average scene with good illumination.
02 Set the PEAK/AVERAGE control to average.
03 Adjust the IRIS control until the brightest parts of the image just begin to ” flatten out “ .
04 View a scene with bright highlights ,move the PEAK/AVERAGE control back towards peak until
any highlight distortion or overloading has been removed.
05 Cover lens and check iris opens freely.Remove cover and check iris closes down to produce a
good picture again.
06 The LVG control has been factory set and normally does not require adjustment.
PWI ADJUSTMENT
01 View a scene with a single very bright object which covers no more than 5% of the picture area.
02 Select PWI from the keyboard and adjust the PWI control to the point where no inversion takes
place, then slowly bring the control back until the PWI just covers the highlighted areas.
03 PWI of large areas is not recommended due to the inevitable contention with the auto-iris and
AGC of the camera.
