Introduction
ZTE Z291DL is a 4G LTE mobile hotspot device, working on the LTE network. You can
connect your devices to it via Wi-Fi®. The device supports data services, enabling you to
communicate anytime and anywhere.
The following gure shows the appearance of the device. It is only for your reference. The
actual device may be dierent.

ON/OFF Switch Slide the switch to turn the hotspot on or off.
WPS Button
• Press to wake up the device when the hotspot is
in sleep mode.
• When Wi-Fi is enabled on the hotspot, press and hold
for three seconds to activate the WPS function.
LED Indicators View colored icons for information about battery,
signal strength, Wi-Fi, and messages.
micro-SIM Card Slot Install the micro-SIM Card.
Charging/Micro USB Port Charge your hotspot.
Indicators
When the device is powered on, the following icons will light up on the surface of the
device. The corresponding indicators are listed in the tables below.

Network
Red solid Limited or no service, no SIM card, SIM card error,
or SIM card locked.
Red blinking Activation failed.
Green solid Registered to the LTE network.
Green blinking Registered and connected to LTE network.
Blue blinking FOTA upgrading.
LED light o In Power Save/Sleep mode.
Messages
Blue solid You have unread messages.
Blue blinking You have new messages or your inbox
is full.
LED light o No unread messages or no new messages.

ICON STATUS DESCRIPTION
Wi-Fi
Blue solid Wi-Fi is on.
Blue blinking WPS is active.
LED light o Wi-Fi is o.
Battery
Red solid The battery is from 0% to 5% (not charging).
Please charge the battery.
Red blinking The battery is from 0% to 5% (charging).
Green solid
The battery level is medium or high (charging from
95% to 100%, not charging from 34% to 100%).
Green blinking The battery is from 34% to 94% (charging).
Amber solid The battery is from 6% to 33% (not charging).
Amber blinking The battery is from 6% to 33% (charging).
LED light o The battery is not inserted or the device is
powered o with no charger connected.
Connection Scenario
The following picture is an example of device connection. All of these devices can surf
the Internet at the same time.
NOTE: You can only use Wi-Fi to connect to the Z291DL device. Make sure the devices you wish
to connect to the Z291DL device support Wi-Fi.

Setting Up Your Device
About Your micro-SIM Card
The micro-SIM card for your new Z291DL is pre-installed. If you need to replace it, use the
instructions below.
Installing the micro-SIM Card
1. Remove the micro-SIM from the outer card, being
careful not to touch the gold-colored contacts.
2. Lift the micro-SIM card cover o the card slot
as shown.
NOTE: Pull the cover gently, as it is connected
to the device.
3. Insert the micro-SIM card into the card slot
until it clicks into place.
NOTE: Do not bend or scratch your micro-SIM
card. Avoid exposing your micro-SIM card to
static electricity, water, or dirt.
4. Close the card cover.
Inserting the Battery
1. Remove the back cover.
2. Insert the battery as shown, with the
contacts located against the metal springs,
and press the battery down into the case.
3. Close the back cover.

Charging Your Device
You can charge your device by using the USB cable or adapter. Please charge your device
for more than two hours when you use it the rst time or when you haven’t used it for a
long time.
• Use the USB cable to connect your device and PC directly.
• Use the adapter and USB cable to connect the wall outlet and your device.
NOTES:
• The plug only ts one way to connect your device. Do not use excessive force to insert the plug.
• The charging time varies depending on your battery level. The device will stop charging if
the temperature of the battery exceeds 113° F (45° C).
Powering On/O Your Device
Slide the ON/OFF Switch to power the device on or o.
Sleep Mode
If you enable the Wi-Fi function, use the battery to supply power to the device, and do
not connect to the device within the specied time, the device will enter sleep mode. In
sleep mode, the Wi-Fi function will be disabled. Press the WPS Button to wake up the
device and Wi-Fi function.
Connecting to Your Device
1. Power on your device. Check the Wi-Fi indicator to make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled.
2. Use your normal Wi-Fi application on your computer (or other Wi-Fi enabled device)
to search for available wireless networks.
NOTE: You can only use Wi-Fi to connect to the Z291DL. Make sure that the client device
supports Wi-Fi.
3. Select the SSID of your device, and then click Connect.
NOTE: The SSID (“TF_XXXXXX”) and default password for your Z291DL can be found on the
label under the battery.

4. If necessary, enter the default password and click OK.
5. Your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device will then connect to the Z291DL device.
NOTES:
• It is recommended that the battery be fully charged in order to use your Z291DL via Wi-Fi for
the rst time, or connect the device to a wall outlet for power.
• Upload and download speeds may vary depending on the number of devices connected to
the Z291DL.
If your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device supports WPS, you don’t have to input
the password manually once your WPS has been set up in your web UI. To set up, follow
these steps:
1. Log into the web UI.
2. Select Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Basic Settings.
3. Press and hold the WPS Button for three seconds to start the Wi-Fi Protected Setup
authentication process.
4. To respond to this authentication process, enable the WPS function on the device
you wish to connect.
5. Follow the system prompts on your device to nish the connection.

Accessing the Internet Conguring Your Device on the Web
1. Power on the Z291DL device.
2. Connect your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device to the Z291DL device.
3. After the devices are successfully connected, you can access the Internet
automatically.
NOTES:
• Once your Z291DL is powered on and has been activated, it automatically connects to the
Internet, provided that mobile broadband service is available and one or more Wi-Fi devices
are connected.
• The LED lights on your Z291DL indicate whether service is available and if the device is ready
to connect.
Accessing the Conguration Page
1. You will need to locate your password rst. This can be found under the battery cavity.
Check the label and make note of the password to continue.
2. Make sure your device is connected to the Z291DL device.
3. Launch the Internet browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
NOTE: It is recommended that you use Internet Explorer® (7.0 or later), Firefox ® (15.0 or
later), Opera™ (10.0 or later), Safari® (4.0 or later), or Google™ Chrome™ (10.0 or later).
4. The login page appears as follows. The following is only for your reference.
5. On the login page, input the password and click Login.

The interface is divided into three parts. Related functions can be executed by operation
in the related areas.
• Index area: Shows the conguration list for your device.
• Content area: Shows the detailed conguration.
• System Information area: Shows the system status and dierent kinds of tips.

Battery level Shows the battery level;
4 stages from none to high .
Signal strength Shows the network signal intensity;
5 stages from none to strong .
Connection
status
Connected to the Internet.
Disconnected from the Internet.
Wi-Fi status Wi-Fi status and number of connected users.
IMPORTANT: Do not modify any settings unless instructed by your service provider.
Quick Setup
1. In the main interface, click Settings > Quick Settings.
2. Read the guide carefully, and then click Next.
3. Set SSID Conguration as shown in the following gure:
Service Set Identier (SSID) is used to uniquely identify your wireless local area
network (WLAN). If you enable Broadcast Network Name (SSID), the gateway will
broadcast the SSID, and other devices can detect and connect to it.
