1 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the 3D Systems Density. Please read this guide carefully to enjoy optimum process performance and
longer equipment service life. The Density is a Water Jet Blasting Cabinet for cleaning 3D printed components.

Interlock Function
The interlock function features a safety switch integrated into the safety glass lid, ensuring that the water pressure function is
deactivated as soon as the lid is opened.
Customer Safety Program
Before using the Density, customers must have a safety program in place. The safety program should do the following:
• Label and point out hazardous equipment, materials, and procedures.
• Explain what to do in an emergency situation.
• Provide information about the hazards of equipment and materials in the form of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). The SDSs are
provided with all materials supplied by 3D Systems
The information in this chapter supplements the customer's existing safety program. It points out safety considerations that
specically concern the Density system.
Safety Symbols and Denitions
The following are safety symbols that are common to 3D Systems guides. Some or all of these symbols may appear in this guide
and/or in other Density documentation.
CAUTION: Indicates the possibility of loss of data or damage to equipment.
WARNING: INDICATES THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY OR DEATH TO PERSONNEL.
Electrical Shock: High voltage electricity is accessible in the vicinity of this sign or behind the access panel.
High voltage can cause severe burns or death, as well as res. Access panels are for service only and should be
opened only by certied service personnel or trained maintenance personnel.
Arc Flash: High energy electrical discharge between two electrically conductive materials. Take care to
avoid opening electrical enclosures unless electrical components are de-energized or specialized personal
protective equipment is worn.
Wear Eye Protection: Indicates the need for eye protection.
Wear Protective Mask: Indicates the need to wear an appropriate face mask.
Wear Protective Gloves: Wear the appropriate gloves when required. For example, when touching surfaces
that may contain or have been exposed to materials, wear nitrile gloves. Heat gloves are necessary when
touching surfaces that may be hot to ensure burns don't occur.
Flammable material: Flammable material when in the form of dust clouds. Take care when in the vicinity of or
handling ammable materials.
Pinch Point: Injury or death from crushing weight.

Material Handling
• Do not use any material without rst reviewing its Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
• To prevent injury and equipment damage, be sure to follow all handling guidelines detailed in the appropriate Material
Guide.
Alarms and Warnings
• Displayed error, alarm, or warning messages can result from unsafe practices, such as opening an enclosure door or panel
when equipment is powered up and running.
Interlock Function
When you open the protective glass lid, it automatically turns off the water pressure.
Always keep the lid closed during operation for a secure work environment.
2.1 Intended Use
The Density water jet cabinet is a precision tool intended for use in the additive manufacturing process for depowdering of
additive manufactured components made of polymeric powders. The nal performance characteristics of the machine may
vary according to your compliance with the instructions for use, design guidelines, application, operating conditions, uids
combined with, end-use, or other factors.
The machine should only be operated by trained personnel and as described in this document.
Do not carry out any disassembly or tampering with the machine that is not described in the manual
In case of any machine breakdown contact 3D Systems for service and maintenance.
Only use it as described in this manual and contact 3D Systems immediately if there are any problems.
2.2 Installation and Service Restrictions
During installation and service of the Density, only authorized personnel with adequate training are allowed to handle and be in
close proximity of the machine to ensure that no unexpected incidents occur which could cause physical harm to the individual
or damage the equipment.

3.1 Model Deviations
The Density included in the Essential system version does not come with the Compressed air with an integrated supply feature.
The Essential version therefore has two instead of three buttons on the front machine control panel.

4 PREPARATION AND SETUP
4.1 Arranging the Workspace
Choose a stable, level workspace to install and operate the Density. Reserve the following minimum dimensions for the most
convenient access:
• Width: 100 cm / 39.3 inch
• Depth: 100 cm / 39.3 inch
• Height: 220 cm / 86.6 inch
Place the Density’s back at least 10 cm / 3.9 inch from the closest object. It is necessary to place the Density in a way that allows
you to be able to pull the plug from the machine or power outlet.
4.2 Water
The machine shall be lled with 20±2 liters of tap water before turning the system on. This is done by pouring water into the
blasting chamber.

On the panel on the front, there is a water level indicator. When the indicator is red the machine needs to be lled with water to
be able to shoot water. When the indicator is fully green the machine is full, please do not overll as it will reduce the machine's
capacity.
The indicator behavior is not linear so be careful when lling with water as the level indication can change quickly.

4.3 Filter
Open the grid in the blasting chamber and make sure there is a lter in place. The grid is opened by pulling the handle.

5 MACHINE USE
5.1 Loading 3D Prints
Before loading 3D prints, make sure that the machine is turned off. Open the protective glass straight up and put the 3D prints
to be cleaned inside the blasting chamber. When the prints are loaded, close the protective glass.

WARNING: DO NOT, AT ANY TIME, WHEN THE LID IS OPEN TURN ON THE WATER AS THE HIGH-PRESSURE WATER
JET CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY.
5.2 Cleaning 3D Prints
1. Turn the machine on by pressing the left button on the machine's front.
2. Turn the wiper on and off by pressing the middle button on the machine's front.
3. Use the water blasting gun inside the chamber to turn on and off the water jet.
4. CAUTION: Only shoot water against the back of the chamber as the high-pressure water may damage the
lid seal and cause water leakage
Keep the 3D printed part you are cleaning at a distance of 10 cm / 3.9 inch from the blasting gun nozzle and avoid using the
jet at ne details for any longer period of time as it may affect the 3D-print negatively.
5. You can change the water pressure by rotating the nozzle.

6. To dry prints with pressurized air, press the right button on the machine's front to switch from water to air blasting. Use the
air blasting gun inside the chamber to turn on and off the air stream.
7. When done, wait for the compressor to turn off automatically and then turn the machine off by pressing the left button on
the machine's front.
