INTENDED USE
The 4X4 TOUGH® Winch Extension Strap is designed to provide extra length when the
winch line can not reach an anchor point (such as a tree) or a vehicle you wish to recover.
An essential piece of gear to have in your recovery kit.
Australia oers some of the world’s best o road playgrounds and when it comes to
getting o road, having the correct recovery equipment is imperative. Even the most
experienced o road enthusiasts will encounter the need to use recovery gear.
Using recovery gear can be extremely dangerous and should always be treated with
caution. Take the time to access your situation as every recovery will be dierent and it is
vital you always put safety rst during a vehicle recovery.
This product is intended for private vehicle use only, and is not intended for commercial,
trade or industrial use.

• NEVER USE THE WINCH EXTENSION STRAP WHEN PERFORMING A SNATCH
RECOVERY AS IT HAS NO STRETCH PROPERTIES.
• Persons intending to use the winch extension strap should consider completing a
nationally recognized four wheel drive training course, or contact a four wheel drive
club for comprehensive advice on the correct selection and use of the strap.
• The strap MUST NOT be used for lifting or towing
• Inspect the strap prior to use. If there are any signs of damage DO NOT USE IT.
• NOTE: The straps strength is reduced when the strap is saturated with water.
• A recovery damper, heavy bag or blanket MUST be used over the winch extension
strap and winch line during a recovery to reduce the risk of injury in the event that
a winch line or strap should break under load. Refer to Diagram 1 on page 6.
• While the strap is being used, people outside the motor vehicle who are involved in
the recovery process MUST stay a at least 1.5 times away from the combined length
of winch line and recovery strap actively in use during the recovery.
• Only attach the strap to a device that is suitably rated for use with the strap.
Attachment of the strap to an unrated recovery point, such as a tow ball or tie down
point, may result in these items breaking away from the vehicle, when the strap is
under load. If this happens, they can become“missiles”ung at high velocity by the
strap and in such circumstances, injury or death has been known to result. For this
reason, only attach the strap to rated recovery points.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR WINCH EXTENSION STRAP
“TFAS”; Think First Act Second. This is the golden rule with all recovery options.
Take the time to access the situation before commencing the recovery.
WARNING - Never operate your winch with less than four full
wraps of line on the drum as your chance of a breakage on
the nal wraps is much more likely than on the earlier layers
of line. The winch extension strap is designed to make up the
distance while keeping line on your winch.
• Locate a suitable anchor point, such as a tree or large bolder and attach an
appropriate strap, such as a tree trunk protector.
• Attach the extension strap using a rated bow shackle and nger tighten. Back the
pin of the shackle o by half a turn. This will prevent the pin from binding up under
stress and become impossible to remove later.
• Run out enough winch line to get from the your 4WD to the winch extension strap.
• Attach the winch line hook to the end of the winch extension strap.
• Ensure that there are no tangles or cross-overs in the line.
• Move everyone away from the winching area and begin to take up the slack.
When everyone is clear and the slack is taken up, begin to winch.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• Dirt, mud, grime and sand are abrasive and can damage the extension strap. Always
clean the strap after use.
• Clean using warm water containing a mild detergent. Ensure the strap is completely
dry before storing.
• Check the strap for any nicks, cuts, burn and wear marks. If found the strap should be
disposed of in a proper manner.
• When nished using your winch extension strap we recommend to roll up the strap
to avoid the strap getting tangled, knotted or damaged. .

Consult your local council waste authority for information regarding disposal options.
