INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE
GENERAL INFORMATION
The 6148ICON is an addressable remote keypad designed
for use with ADEMCO control panels. Addresses are set via
the keypad keys. The keypad keys are continuously backlit
for convenience.
KEYPAD DISPLAY AND LEDS
The 6148ICON keypad contains icons and a three digit zone
identifier to display system status (the universal icons are
shown on page 3).
The following table describes the LEDs and their functions:

SPECIAL-FUNCTION KEY PAIRS
The keypad also features special-function key pairs. These
key pairs may be used to activate panic alarms. See the
control's instructions for more details.
The following key pairs are used by the 6148ICON to
manually activate silent emergency, audible emergency,
personal emergency, or fire alarms:

Key pairs activate immediately.
CASE TAMPER
A built-in tamper switch detects separation of the case-back
from its mounting surface. To include tamper protection, an
additional mounting screw must be inserted in the case-
back, as shown in Figure 2.
The 6148ICON supports keypad tamper reporting. If the
control panel supports the tamper feature, no additional
keypad programming is required. A tamper violation is
reported on the keypad by displaying the keypad address in
trouble, preceded by the digit 1. For example, if there are
three keypads connected with addresses of 16, 17, and 18
respectively, and a tamper violation occurs with keypad
address 17, the other keypads would display that keypad’s
violation as 117.

NOTE: Not all control panels support keypad tamper
reporting. Refer to the individual control panel’s installation
and setup guide.
WIRING AND INSTALLATION
The keypad can be surface mounted directly to a wall, or to
a single-or double-gang electrical box.
If surface wiring is being used, wiring may be routed
through the top knockouts in the case-back.
Refer to Figure 2.
The knockout(s) must be punched out using a
screwdriver before mounting the case-back.
If desired, wires may be strain-relieved to the wire tie point
on the inside of the case-back with a tie wrap (not supplied).
1. Remove the case-back by pushing down two "snaps"
located as shown in Figure 1.
2. Route wiring from/to the control panel through the
large rectangular opening in the case-back or, for
surface wiring, through one of the knockout wire
breakout points as shown in Figure 2.
3. Mount the case-back to a wall or electrical box.
4. For wall mounting, secure the mounting plate to the
wall (with mounting hooks facing up), using the screws
supplied or wall anchors (not supplied). Refer to Case
Tamper paragraph above if tamper supervision is to be
enabled.
5. Insert the locking clip (if required) into its retainer
slot. Refer to Figures 2 and 3.
6. Drill out the hole for the locking screw.
NOTE: The pilot hole for the locking screw is located on the
bottom surface of the case-front as shown in Figure 3 and
Figure 5.
7. Connect the wires coming from the control panel
directly to the keypad’s terminal block as shown in
Figure 4. Wire functions are marked next to terminals as
shown in the following table.

8. Reattach the keypad to the mounted case-back. Attach
the top of the keypad first, and then press the bottom
section down until it snaps into place.
9. Secure the keypad to the case-back by installing the self-
tapping lock screw (if required). Refer to Figure 5.

SETTING THE KEYPAD ADDRESS
The keypad can be set either for an address of 00-30, or to
the nonaddressable mode (31). The keypad's default address
is 31.
Refer to the Installation and Setup Guide of the
control panel being used for correct address
settings and other details.
To change the keypad's address, do the following:
1. Power up the keypad. Within 60 seconds of power-up,
press and hold down the [1] and [3] keys at the same
time for approximately 3 seconds. (If unable to enter
address mode, power down, then power up and try
again.)
The current keypad address is displayed, and the cursor
is under the "tens" digit. If 10 seconds have passed with
no key entry, the keypad automatically exits address
mode. You must power down, then power up and start
address mode again if this happens.
NOTE: The keypad will not enter address mode if the
panel to which it is connected is in programming mode.
2. Set the current address to "00": Press [0] to clear the
current "tens" digit. The cursor moves to the "ones"
digit position. Press [0] to clear the current "ones" digit.
The cursor moves back to the "tens" digit position.
3. Enter the keypad's address:
Enter the proper "tens" digit of the keypad's address.
The cursor moves to the "ones" digit position. Enter the
proper "ones" digit of the keypad's address. Note that
address "31" sets the keypad to nonaddressable mode.
4. To save the displayed address and exit address mode,
press [✱].
VIEWING THE KEYPAD ADDRESS
Press and hold down the [1] and [3] keys at the same time
for about 3 seconds. The current address is displayed. No
key entry is allowed. Press any key to exit, or wait 10
seconds to exit viewing mode automatically.
