SecuritySystem.You'vemadeawisedecisioninchoosingit, for
itrepresentsthelatestinsecurityprotectiontechnologytoday.
Ademcoistheworld'slargest manufacturerofsecuritysystems
andmillions ofpremisesareprotectedbyAdemcosystems.
Thissystemoffersyouthreeformsofprotection:burglary,fire
andemergency.Torealizethesystem's fullpotential,itis
importantthatyou feelcomfortableinoperatingit.Yoursystem
consistsofatleastoneKeypad whichprovidesfull controlof
systemoperation,varioussensorswhichprovideperimeterand
interiorburglaryprotection, plusaselectednumberof strategically
placedsmokeorcombustiondetectorsdesignedtoprovideearly
warning in caseoffire.
Thesystemusesmicrocomputertechnologytomonitor all
protectionzonesandsystemstatusandprovidesappropriate
informationfordisplayon theKeypad(s)usedwiththesystem,
andinitiatesappropriatealarms.Yoursystemmayalsohave
been programmedtoautomaticallytransmitalarmorstatus
messagesoverthe phonelinestoacentralalarmmonitoring
station.
APartitioned
System Simplystated,apartitionedsystemsharesonephysicalalarm
systemamongdifferent users,eachwiththeir ownrequirements.
Forthemostpart, youasauserneed notknowaboutother
users andtheirstructureinthesystem, butfromtimetotime, you
mayseedisplaymessageswhichindicatethesystemisinuse
by anotheruser.Donotbeconcerned,thisisnormal.Refertothe
ACCESSINGOTHERPARTITIONSsectionfor additional
information.
Zones Yoursystem's sensingdeviceshavebeenassignedtovarious
"zones." Forexample,the sensingdeviceonyourEntry/Exit door
mayhavebeen assignedtozone 01,sensingdeviceson
windowsin themasterbedroomtozone02,and soon.These
numberswillappearon the display,along withan alpha
descriptor forthat zone(ifprogrammed), whenanalarmortrouble
conditionoccurs.

FireProtection Thefire protectionportionofyoursecuritysystem(ifused)is
alwaysonandwillsoundanalarmifafirecondition isdetected.
Refertothe FIREALARMSYSTEMsection forimportant
informationconcerningfireprotection,smokedetectorsand
planningemergency exitroutesfromyour house.
BurglaryProtection Theburglaryprotectionportionofyoursystemmustbeturnedon
or"armed"beforeitwillsenseburglaryalarmconditions.Your
systemprovidesfourmodesofburglaryprotection:STAY,
AWAY,INSTANTandMAXIMUM,andevenallows you to
BYPASSselectedzonesofprotectionwhileleavingtherestof
thesystem armed. Thesystemalsoprovides aCHIMEmode, for
alertinguserstotheopeningandclosingofdoorsandwindows
whilethesystemisdisarmed.Refertotheothersectionsofthis
manual for proceduresforusingthesefeatures.

Alarms Whenanalarmoccurs,boththekeypadandexternalsounders

alarm.If yoursystem is connectedtoacentralmonitoring station,
analarmmessagewillalsobesent.Tostopthealarmsounding,
simply disarmthesystem.
Memoryof Alarm When an alarmconditionoccurs,the keypad displays the
number(s)ofthezone(s)thatcausedtheproblem,anddisplays
thetypeofalarm(ex. FIRE, ALARM).It remainsdisplayeduntil it
isclearedbydisarmingthesystem(seeDISARMINGTHE
SYSTEMsection).

SpeedKey
(Macros) Thesystem canstoreastringofupto16keystrokes,whichcan
beactivatedanytimebysimplypressingthe "D" key.This
featurecanbeusedtomakeiteasytoperformacomplicated
procedure(suchasgoing toanotherpartitiontobypass azone),
oritcan beused tosimplifyaneveryday,repeatedprocedure.
RefertotheSPEEDKEYsectionforproceduresforusingthis
feature.
Using Schedules Yoursystemmayhavebeen programmedwithschedulesfor
automaticallyarming,disarmingand activatingvariousdevices
and/or performing othersystemfunctionsatpredetermined times.
Userscanmodifysomeoftheseschedules bymanuallydelaying
aclosingtime,using temporaryschedules,orbyprogramming
specialuserschedules.RefertotheUSINGSCHEDULES
section atthe end ofthismanual forscheduling related
procedures.
DeviceTimers Thesystemprovidesupto20"timers"whichcanbeused to
control variousdevices,suchaslightsor appliances.These
timersaresimilarinconcepttotheindividual appliancetimersthat
mightbe purchasedatadepartmentstore.Thedevicesthatcan
becontrolledareprogrammedintothesystembythe installer.
Upto16ofthesedevicescanbe programmed.Refertothe
PROGRAMMINGDEVICETIMERSsection for procedures.
ToAccess Another
Partition
(GOTOCommand)
Eachkeypadisassignedadefaultpartitionfordisplaypurposes,
andwillshowonlythatpartition'sinformation.But,iftheuseris
authorized,akeypadin onepartitioncan be usedtoperform
systemfunctionsin another partition byusing the GOTO
command.Notethatonlythosepartitionsauthorized and
programmedbytheinstaller can be accessedinthismanner.
To GOTO anotherpartition,enter yoursecuritycode,thenpress
Qfollowed bythe desired partitionnumber (1-8).
Thekeypadwillremaininthenewpartitionuntildirectedtogoto
anotherpartition,oruntil120secondshaselapsedwithno
keypad activity. Enteringpartitionnumber0willreturnthekeypad
toits originalpartition.

MasterKeypad
Operation
A"Master"keypadisoneonwhichthestatus ofall8partitionsis
displayedsimultaneously. Auser canget moreinformationabout
acertainpartitionbysimplyenteringQ +thedesiredpartition
number(1-8).Tologontothe"Master"partition(9)usingthe
GOTO command,ausermusthaveaccesstoall partitions.
Self-HelpFeature Abbreviated user'sinstructionsarebuiltintothesystemthatcan
be easilyviewed on thealpha keypad's message display
screen.Thisfeaturewill proveparticularlyusefulifthismanualis
notconvenientlyaccessiblewhenyouneedtoperformasystem
procedurewithwhichyouare not familiar.
Toviewtheabbreviatedinstructions:
Simplypressand hold downthefunction keyofinterestuntil
thedescriptionstartstoappear(about5seconds)andthen
releaseit.

Yoursystemmayincludea4285VIPmodulethatwillpermityou
toaccess the systemviaaTouch-tone phone,eitheron-
premisesorbycall-inwhenaway. Thephoneaccess featurewill
enableyoutodothefollowing:
¥Receivesynthesizedvoicemessagesover thetelephone
regardingthestatusofthesecuritysystem.
¥Armanddisarmthesystemand performmostfunction
commandsviathetelephone,withvoiceconfirmationprovided
aftereachcommandentry.
¥Control4204relays/PowerlineCarrierdevicesthroughthe#70
Manual RelayActivationmode.

ABOUTTHEKEYPADS
General
IMPORTANT: Ifthe
keypad beepsrapidly
uponentering the
premises,itindicates
that analarmhas
occurred duringyour
absence.LEAVE
IMMEDIATELYand
CONTACTTHEPOLICE
fromanearbysafe
location.
Your keypadsallowyou tocontrolallsystemfunctions.The
keypadsfeatureatelephonestyle(digital)keypad andaLiquid
CrystalDisplay(LCD)whichshowsthenatureandlocationofall
occurrences.Keypaddisplaybacklightingisprogrammable to
alwaysstayonortolightonlywhenakeyispressed,thenturn
off afewminutes later.
Thekeypadsalsofeatureabuilt-insounderwhichwill sound
during alarms andtroubles.It willalso"beep"during certain
systemfunctions,suchasduringentry/exitdelaytimes,during
CHIMEmode,andwhendepressingkeystoarmanddisarmthe
system(toacknowledgethekeypress).Thesesoundscanbe
optionallysuppressedinsomeofyourkeypads(soasnotto
disturbotherusersofthesystem).Askyourinstallerifthishas
beendone.
There aretwobasictypesofkeypadsÐaFIXED-WORD
keypadand anALPHAkeypad.Thesekeypadsareavailablein
twostyles,shownasstyleAandstyleB,eitherofwhichmay
havebeenused in yoursystem.Although differentin
appearance,bothstylesarefunctionallythesame.Thekeypads
onstyleBkeypadsarelocatedbehind aflip-downcoverwhich
canberemoved, if desired.
TheAlphaKeypadAlphakeypads feature a2-line,32characteralphanumericLiquid
Crystal Display(LCD)whichcandisplaysystemmessagesin
friendlyEnglish.Abbreviated user's instructionscan alsobe
displayed(seeSelfHelpparagraphintheSYSTEMOVERVIEW
section).Thesekeypadscan alsobeprogrammedwithcustom
zonedescriptors.

Keypad
Fixed-Wordkeypadsare functionallyidenticaltoalphakeypads,
buttheLCD displayusespre-designatedwordstoidentifythe
natureand locationof occurrences.

FUNCTIONSOFTHEKEYPAD
1. ALPHA DISPLAYWINDOW: A2-line,32-
characterLiquidCrystalDisplay(LCD).
Displaysprotectionpointidentificationand
systemstatus, messages, and user
instructions.
2. OFF KEY: Disarmstheburglary portionof
thesystem,silencesalarmsand audible
troubleindicators,andclearsvisualalarm
troubleafterthe problemhasbeen corrected.
3. AWAY KEY: Completelyarmsboth
perimeterandinteriorburglaryprotectionby
sensing an intruder'smovements through
protectedinteriorareasaswell asguarding
protecteddoors,windows,etc. Latearrivals
canenterthroughanentrydelayzonewithout
causinganalarmifthesystemisdisarmed
beforetheentrydelaytimeexpires.
4. STAY KEY: Armstheperimeterburglary
protection,guarding protected doors,windows
andotherperimeterprotectionpoints,and
soundsanalarmifoneisopened.Interior
protectionisnotarmed,whichallows
movementwithinyourhousewithoutcausing
analarm.Latearrivalscanenterthroughan
entrydelayzonewithoutcausinganalarmif
thesystemisdisarmedbeforethe entrydelay
timeexpires.
5. MAXIMUM KEY: Armsinmannersimilar
toAWAY mode,buteliminatestheentry delay
period,thusproviding maximumprotection.An
alarmwilloccurimmediatelyuponopening any
protectionpoint,including entry delayzones.
6. TEST KEY: Teststhesystemandalarm
sounderifdisarmed.
7. BYPASS KEY: Removesindividual
protectionzonesfrombeingmonitoredbythe
system.Displayspreviouslybypassed
protectionzones.
8. INSTANT KEY: Armsinmannersimilarto
STAYmode,butturnsofftheentry delay
period,offering greatersecuritywhileinside
and notexpecting anylatearrivals. Analarm
willoccurimmediatelyuponopening any
perimeterprotection point,includingentry
delayzones.
9. CODE KEY: Allowstheentryofadditional
usercodesthatcanbe given tootherusersof
thesystem.
10. CHIME KEY: Turnson&offtheCHIME
mode.Whenon,anyentrythrough aprotected
delayorperimeterzonewhilethesystemis
disarmedwillcauseatone tosound atthe
Keypad(s).
11. READY KEY: Whendepressedpriorto
armingthesystem,the keypadwill displayall
openprotectionzoneswithinthekeypad's
homepartition.Thiskeyisalsoused todisplay
all zonedescriptorsthathavebeen
programmedforyoursystem,byholdingthe
keydownforat least5seconds.

ENTRY/EXITDELAYS
GeneralInformation Yoursystemhaspresettimedelays,knownasexitdelayand
entrydelay.Wheneveryouarmyoursystem, exitdelay gives
youtimetoleavethroughthe designatedexitdoorwithoutsetting
off analarm.Exitdelaybeginsimmediatelyafterenteringany
armingcommand, andapplies toallmodes ofarming protection. If
programmed, aslowbeepingwillsoundthroughout theexitdelay
period.
EntryDelay givesyoutimetodisarmthesystemwhenyou
reenterthroughthedesignatedentrancedoor.Butthesystem
mustbedisarmedbeforetheentrydelay period ends, oranalarm
willoccur.The keypadwillbeepduringtheentrydelayperiod,
remindingyoutodisarmthe system. Youcanalsoarmthesystem
withnoentrydelayatallbyusingeitherINSTANTorMAXIMUM
armingmodes. Thesemodesprovidegreater securitywhileon
thepremisesorwhile awayforextendedperiodsoftime.See

General
Information Atthe timeofinstallation,youwereassigned anauthoritylevel
andapersonalfour-digitsecuritycode,knownonlytoyouand
yours.The securitycodemustbe entered when arming and
disarming thesystem.Theauthoritylevel definesthe system
functions that you canperform.
Asanadditionalsafety feature,otherusersthatdonothavea
needtoknowyour codecanbeassigneddifferentsecurity
codes,andeachusercanbe givenadifferentauthoritylevel.
Usersareidentifiedby"usernumbers",whichareassignedwhen
assigningauser's security code.
Allcodescanbe used interchangeablywhenperformingsystem
functionswithinthelimits ofeachcode's authority level (asystem
armedwithoneuser's codecanbedisarmedbyanotheruser's
code),withtheexceptionoftheOperatorLevelCcode.See
AUTHORITYLEVELS section onthefollowingpagefordetailed
information regarding user authority levels.
DuressCode Thisfeatureis intendedfor usewhenyouareforcedtodisarmor
armthesystemunderthreat. Whenused,thesystemwill act
normally, butcan silentlynotifythe central stationofyour
situation,ifthatservicehasbeenprovided.The duress codeis
pre-assigned by theinstallerduringinstallation(auth. level6).
Important: Thiscodeisusefulonlywhen the systemis
connected toacentral station.
QuickArming Notethatif "QuickArming"wasprogrammedbytheinstaller,the
#keycanbepressedin placeof thesecuritycodewhenarming
thesystem.Thesecuritycodemustalwaysbeusedtodisarm
thesystem,however.

systemrestrictionsasshownbelow.
Level1Master: Canperformallsystemfunctionsin
assignedpartitions,andcanadd,
deleteorchangeManagerand
Operatorlevelusers. Mastercodesare
addedbytheInstaller.
Level2Manager:Can performsystemfunctionsin
assignedpartitions,andcanadd,
deleteorchangeOperatorlevelusers.
Level3OperatorA:Canperformsystemfunctionsin
assignedpartitions, butcannot addor
deleteotherusers.
Level4OperatorB:SameasOperatorA, exceptOperator
Bcannotbypasszonesofprotection.
Level5Operator C:Canarmthesysteminassigned
partitions,but cannotdisarmthesystem
unless thesystem wasarmedwiththis
code. This codeistypicallyassignedto
someone who hasaneed toarm/disarm
thesystemonlyat certaintimes(suchas
ababy-sitter).
Level6Duress:Canarmanddisarmthesystem,but
