1. Functional Test
It is advisable to test all the items listed in the following table.

2. Calibration Check
Requirements
•One set of standard test cables
•Shunt 100mVx200A (50μΩ)
•Shunt 166mVx100A (166.6μΩ)
•Shunt 200mVx200A (1000μΩ)
•Shunt 5Vx10A (500mΩ)

3. Calibration
Requirements
•Computer with USB2.0 or higher
•USB drivers installed (installed with Dataview software)
•HyperTerminal (or other terminal emulation program)
•One set of standard test cables
•Shunt 200mVx200A (1000μΩ)
•Shunt 5Vx10A (500mΩ)
Entering Calibration Mode
1. Connect the USB cable from the computer to the powered off AEMC 6292.
2. Launch HyperTerminal.
3. Configure HyperTerminal Com Port as shown below (same as Control Panel > Device Manager).
◦57600 bps, 8 bits, No Parity, No Flow Control
4. Start the connection in HyperTerminal.
5. Press and hold the STOP key.
6. Power on the instrument, while pressing the STOP key.
7. When the auto tests complete, release the STOP key.
8. The following screen will be displayed.

9. In the HyperTerminal window, a Password will be requested. Type the character 'k' (lowercase).
10. The following screen will be displayed.
•The first line indicates the equipment has entered calibration mode.
•The second line shows the test setup, which is irrelevant because in calibration mode the AEMC
6292 will always work manually for an unlimited amount of time.
•The third line is important to show the equipment is recognizing the main power supply frequency. This
way it will be able to select the appropriate filter to work.

Calibration Procedure
Warning: In calibration mode, the test duration is unlimited. To avoid overheating, finish the
adjustment as fast as possible.
1. Put the AEMC 6292 in calibration mode (see previous procedure).
2. Setup the AEMC 6292 to perform a test using the 1000μΩ shunt.
3. Press the START key to initiate the test.
4. Type the character 'r' through HyperTerminal to see the operating range.
5. Using the current adjust knob, increase the current to 200A, wait a few seconds for the resistance value to
become stable and perform the adjustment sending the appropriate command through HyperTerminal.
6. After reaching the target value, save the adjustment type the character 's'.
7. Stop the test.
8. Setup the AEMC 6292 to perform a test using the 500mΩ shunt.
9. Repeat the same steps to calibrate the second range of resistance, but use 10A instead of 200A;

4. Firmware Update
Requirements
•Computer with USB2.0 or higher
•USB drivers installed
•HyperTerminal (or other terminal emulation program)
Firmware Update Procedure
1. Connect the USB cable from computer to the powered off AEMC 6292.
2. Launch HyperTerminal.
3. Configure HyperTerminal Com Port as shown below (same as Control Panel > Device Manager).
◦57600 bps, 8 bits, No parity, No Flow Control
4. Press and hold the ZERO and TWO keys.
5. Power on the instrument, while pressing the ZERO and TWO keys.
6. The following screen will be displayed.

7. In HyperTerminal, press the button “Call” (represented by a yellow phone) to start the connection.
8. If the connection was made successfully, the 'S' character will be displayed sequentially in HyperTerminal
screen.
9. In the main menu, choose Transfer > Send File.
10. Select the new firmware file.
11. In the same window, choose the Xmodem protocol.

12. Press Send to start firmware update. The following window will be displayed:
13. At the end of the firmware update, the window above will automatically be closed and the application will
start in the equipment.

5. USB Interface Update
Requirements
•Software “Mprog.exe”. This software is provided by FTDI Technology and it is not needed to install; just
run the executable.
USB Interface Update Procedure
To update the description information in the USB module, follow the steps below:
1. Connect the computer to the AEMC 6292 using an USB cable.
2. Launch the Mprog.exe.
3. In the main menu, choose File > Open, find and select the file AEMC6292.ept located in the “Template”
directory.
4. In the main menu, choose Device > Program to perform the update.
5. If successful, the message “Programmed Serial Number: xxxxx” will be displayed in the text box on the bottom
of the Mprog screen.

Repair and Calibration
To ensure that your instrument meets factory specifications, we recommend that it be submitted to our factory
Service Center at one-year intervals for recalibration, or as required by other standards or internal procedures.
For instrument repair and calibration:
You must contact our Service Center for a Customer Service Authorization number (CSA#). This will ensure that
when your instrument arrives, it will be tracked and processed promptly. Please write the CSA# on the outside of
the shipping container. If the instrument is returned for calibration, we need to know if you want a standard
calibration, or a calibration traceable to N.I.S.T. (includes calibration certificate plus recorded calibration data).

Limited Warranty
The Model 6240 is warranted to the owner for a period of one year from the date of original purchase against
defects in manufacture. This limited warranty is given by AEMC®Instruments, not by the distributor from whom it
was purchased. This warranty is void if the unit has been tampered with, abused or if the defect is related to
service not performed by AEMC®Instruments.
For full and detailed warranty coverage, please read the Warranty Coverage Information, which is attached to the
Warranty Registration Card (if enclosed) or is available at www.aemc.com. Please keep the Warranty Coverage
Information with your records.
What AEMC®Instruments will do:
If a malfunction occurs within the one-year period, you may return the instrument to us for repair, provided we
have your warranty registration information on file or a proof of purchase. AEMC®Instruments will, at its option,
repair or replace the faulty material.
Warranty Repairs
What you must do to return an Instrument for Warranty Repair:
First, request a Customer Service Authorization Number (CSA#) by phone or by fax from our Service Department
(see address below), then return the instrument along with the signed CSA Form. Please write the CSA# on the
outside of the shipping container. Return the instrument, postage or shipment pre-paid to:
