Stand
Astand[23],withwhichyoucanpositiontheworldreceiveratan
angle,islocatedatthebackofthedevice.Simplyopenoutthestand
[23]andcloseitagainafteruse.

Priortouse
YoucanusethedeviceeitherwiththeenclosedbatteriesoftypeAA
(Mignon)orwithanoptionalmainsadapter(notsupplied).Ensure
correctpolaritywhenusingbatteries!Themainsadaptermusthavea
suitableDCvoltageplugandhaveanoperatingvoltageof5V.
Donotusebothoperatingoptionsatthesametime.
Removethebatteriesbeforeyouconnectthedevice
withthemainsadapterbecausethebatteriesmayleak
whennotinuse.

Inserting the batteries
Remove theconnection cable of the mains adapter if sucha cable is
connected. Then open thebattery compartment [22] at the back of the
device by sliding its cover downward s in the direction of the imprinted
arrow. Insert the batteries with the co rrect polarity (note + and-) as shown
in the following illustration. The polarity is illustrated on the batteries and
next to the batterycompartment.Replace the battery compartmentcover
and slide it back in the opposite direction to the arrow.

Savedradiostationsarepreservedwhenbatteries
arechanged.
ThedevicehasaLOWBATTERYindicator[15]warninglightfor
theenergylevelofthebatteries.Ifthisindicatorlightsupyellowand
thesymbol [30]isindicatedonthedisplay[6],thebatteriesare
weak.Thenreplacethebatteriesshortlywithnewbatteriesofthe
sametype.
Removethebatteriesifyouwillnotbeusingthe
deviceforanextendedperiodoftime.

Firstuse
Switchingthedeviceonandoff
Toswitchonthedevice,pressthePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]once
briefly.Whenitisswitchedon,thedeviceshowsthetunedfrequency
andthefrequencyband(FM,MW,SW)onthedisplay[6].
Toswitchoffthedevice,pressthePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]
again.Whenitisswitchedoff,thedisplay[6]showsthetimethatis
currentlyset.
Whenyoupressabutton,pleasenotethatthe
backlightofthedisplayisalwaysswitchedonfirst
beforethedeviceperformsthefunction(exceptfor
switchingonandoff).Thisfunctionisusefulinthe
dark,forexample,forreadingthetimeonthedisplay
withoutinadvertentlyusinganotherfunction.
Settingthetime
Youcansetthetimeonlywhenthedeviceisswitchedoff.Switchoff
thedevicewiththePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]ifitisswitchedon.
Youcanusethe12/24button[2]toswitchbetween
the24-hourdisplay.
display,thesymbol"PM"[35]isindicatedonthe
displayonceitispastnoon.

§PresstheCLOCKbutton[1]oncesothatthetimestartstoflash
onthedisplay.Ifonlythebacklightwasswitchedonwhenyou
pressedthebutton,youmustpresstheCLOCK[1]buttonagain.
Youcansetthetimewhileitisflashing.
§SetthehourswiththeM [8]orM+[10]button.Youcanalsokeep
theM [8]orM+[10]buttonpressedtospeeduptheprogressof
thenumbers.
§Settheminuteswiththe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]button.
Youcanalsokeepthe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]button
pressedtospeeduptheprogressofthenumbers.
§Waituntilthesettimestops
flashing theCLOCKbutton[1].
timeisflashingonthedisplay[6].Ifnoentryhasbeenmeonthe
display[6]stops
flashingandtheprocessmustberepeated.
Selectingastation
Thetelescopicaerialcanonlybeswivelledandcannot
beinsertedintothedevicehousing.Otherwise,the
devicecouldbedamaged.
§SwitchonthedevicebypressingthePOWERON/OFFbutton[16].
§SetthedesiredvolumeusingtheVOLUME [4]orVOLUME
+[5]buttons.

§First,selectthedesiredfrequencyband.Todoso,repeatedlypress
theBANDbutton[14]togofromonefrequencybandtoanotherin
succession.Thetunedfrequencyisshownonthedisplay[6].
§Pulloutthetelescopicaerial[21]completely.
§Pressthe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]buttonbrieflyor
repeatedlytotuneinthedesiredfrequencymanually.Tosearch
automaticallyfor
astation,pressthe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]buttona
little
longer.ThefrequencyisshownonthedisplayinMHz(FMandSW)
orinkHz(MW).Ifnecessary,movethetelescopicaerialina
differentdirection,orchangethepositionofthedevicetoimprove
the
reception.
Savingastation
Afteryouhaveselectedastation,youcansaveitasfollows:

Press
the
MEM
button
[12].
§
"P"
then
flashes
on
the
display
[6],
followed
by
01
to
10.
§SelectthedesiredprogrammepresetusingtheM [8]orM+[10]
button.
§PresstheMEMbutton[12]againbrieflytosavethestationtothe
currentlyselectedprogrammepreset.
§Thestationissavedandthefrequencyofthestationisthen
indicatedonthedisplay[6].

Selectingasavedstation
§Inordertoselectasavedstation,thedevicemustbeinuse.Switch
onthedevicewiththePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]ifitis
switchedoff.
§PresstheM [8]orM+[10]buttontoselectanotherstation
(programmepreset).
Alarmfunction
With the radio alarm function, the device
automaticallyswitchesitselfonatthesetalarmtime
withthelastsetvolume,theestablishedfrequencyand
thelasttunedfrequencyband.
Makesurethatthetimeissetcorrectly(seepage7-Settingthetime).
Youcansetthealarmfunctiononlywhenthedeviceisswitchedoff.
SwitchoffthedevicewiththePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]ifitis
switchedon.
§PresstheALARMbutton[11]oncetoactivatethealarmfunction
withalarmtone.Ifonlythebacklightwasswitchedonwhenyou
pressedthebutton,youmustpresstheALARMbutton[11]again.
Thealarmtimeandthesymbol [32]thenflashon
§PresstheALARMbutton[11]twicetoactivatethealarmfunction
withradio.Ifonlythebacklightwasswitchedonwhenyoufirst
pressedthebutton,youmustpresstheALARMbutton[11]again.
Thealarmtimeandthesymbol [31]thenflashonthedisplay[6].
§
While
the
alarm
time
is
flashing,
you
can
set
it.

§SetthehourswiththeM [8]orM+[10]button.Youcanalsokeep
theM [8]orM+[10]buttonpressedtospeeduptheprogressof
thenumbers.
§Settheminuteswiththe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]
button.
Youcanalsokeepthe<SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]

pressedtospeeduptheprogressofthenumbers.
§Thenwaituntilthesetalarmtimestopsflashingonthedisplay[6].
Thealarmtimeisthensavedautomatically.
§Thedisplay[6]thenindicatesthetimeandthesymbol [32]
againforthealarmfunctionwithalarmtoneorthesymbol [31]
forthealarmfunctionwithradio.
§Todeactivatethealarmfunction,presstheALARMbutton[11]
repeatedlyuntilthesymbols [32]and [31]aredeletedfrom
thedisplay[6].
Notethatyoucanonlyadjustthealarmtimeaslong
asthealarmtimeisflashingonthedisplay[8].Ifno
entryhasbeenmadeforafewseconds,thealarmtime
onthedisplay[6]stopsflashingandtheprocessmust
berepeated.
Evenifthealarmfunctionisactivated,youcanuse
thedeviceasusual.

Switchingoffthealarm
Whenthealarmsounds,youcandeactivateitasfollows:
§PressthePOWERON/OFFbutton[16]tostopthealarm.The
alarmisswitchedoffuntilthenextday.

§ PresstheSNOOZEbutton[4/5]topostponethealarmforabout
9minutes.Thealarmsoundsagainafterthistime.
Duringsnooze,"SNOOZE"[26]isindicatedonthedisplay
[6]andthesymbol [32]or [31]flashes.
Sleeptimer
Youcanusethesleeptimertoswitchonthedeviceandswitchitoff
automaticallyafteraselectedtime.
§ PresstheSLEEPbutton[13]whenthedeviceisswitchedonor
off.If onlythebacklightwasswitchedonwhenyoupressedthe
button,youmustpresstheSLEEP[13]buttonagain.Thedisplay
thenshows"SLEEP"[27]andthenumber"90"andthusindicates
thatthedevicewillswitchoffafter90minutes.
§RepeatedlypresstheSLEEPbutton[13]toreducetheswitch-off
time.Eachtimeyoupressthebutton,thetimeisreducedbya
further10minutes.

§Ifyouhavereachedtheswitch-offtime"10"andyoupressthe
SLEEPbutton[13]again,thesleeptimerisdeactivated,butthe
deviceremainsswitchedon.YoucanpresstheSLEEPbutton[13]
againtoselectthetimesettingsonceagain.
Whenthesleeptimerisactivated,youcanswitchit
andthedeviceoffatanytimeusingthePOWER
ON/OFFbutton[16].
IfyoupresstheSLEEPbutton[13]whilethetimeris
on,theremainingtimeofthetimerappearsonthe
display[8].
Connectingtheheadphones
Toavoidhearingdamage,youmustsetthevolumetothe
lowestlevelbeforeconnectingtheheadphones.Youcanthen
adjustthevolumetothedesiredlevel.
Donotuseanyotherheadphonesthanthesupplied
SWED250A1headphones.Otherheadphonescan
createharmfulsoundpressure.
TakecarewhenusingtheheadphonesListeningat
highvolumeforprolongedperiodsoftimecan
damageyourhearing.

Youcanconnectthesuppliedheadphonestothesocket
[20].Whentheheadphonesareconnected,theloudspeaker[19]is
automaticallyswitchedoff.
Backlight
Thebacklightisswitchedonautomaticallyforapprox.3seconds
whenabuttonispressed(exceptwhenswitchingthedeviceoff).
Keypadlock
Pressthe button[3]oncesothatthesymbol [28]isindicatedon
thedisplay[8]tolockthebuttonsagainstaccidentalentries.Ifonly
thebacklightwasswitchedonwhenyoupressedthebutton,youmust
pressthe button[3]again.
Pressthe button[3]oncesothatthesymbol [28]isnolonger
indicatedonthedisplay[8]toreleasethekeypadlock.Ifonlythe
backlightwasswitchedonwhenyoupressedthebutton,youmust
pressthe button[3]anain.
Ifthekeypadlockisactivated,thisisindicatedbythesymbol [3]
on thedisplay[6].

Settingthereceptionsensitivity
TheDXfunctionisactivatedintheoriginalconditionofthedevice.
Thisisindicatedby"DX"[29]onthedisplay[6]whenthedeviceis
switchedon.UsetheDXfunctionifyouwouldliketousethedevice
innormaloperation.
SwitchofftheDXfunctionifonlystationswithahighfieldstrength
aretobereceived.Thisisrecommended,forexample,ifadesired
weaklocalstationissuperimposedbystrongernationalchannels.
ToswitchofftheDXfunction,presstheDXbutton[29]whenthe
deviceisswitchedon.The"DX"indicator[29]thenfadesoutfrom
thedisplay[6].PresstheDXbutton[9]againtoswitchontheDX
functionagain.

Troubleshooting
Thedevicecannotbeswitchedon
Thebatteriesmaybeempty,therefore,replacethebatteries.
Checkwhetherthebatterieshavebeeninsertedwiththecorrect
polarity. Please note the markings next to the battery
compartmentandonthebatteries.Alsorefertothedescriptionon
page5.
Noradioreception,poorradioreception
Pulloutthetelescopicaerial[21]completelyandmakesurethatit
isorientedcorrectly.
TuneinthestationcorrectlyusingtheBANDbutton[14]and
the <SEARCH[17]orSEARCH>[18]buttons.
Checkthesetreceptionsensitivity.Pleasepayparticularattention
tothesection"Settingthereceptionsensitivity"onpage15.
Nosoundalthoughdeviceisswitchedon
Checkthevolumesetting.
Checkifheadphonesareconnectedandremovethemifnecessary.
