1.3 Levels of Warning Messages

This document is valid for product of SMILE-S6-HV which include inverter
SMILE-S6-HV-INV, baery pack SMILE-BAT-8.2PH or SMILE-BAT-5PH.
This document describes the mounng, installaon, commissioning, configuraon,
operaon, troubleshoong and decommissioning of the product as well as the operaon
of the product user interface.
Observe all documentaon that accompanies the product, keep them in a convenient
place and available at all mes.
Illustraons in this document are reduced to the essenal informaon and may deviate
from the real product.
The following levels of warning messages may occur when handling the product.
This document is intended for qualified persons and end users. Only qualified persons are
allowed to perform the acvies marked in this document with a warning symbol. Tasks
that do not require any parcular qualificaon are not marked and can also be performed
by end users. Qualified persons must have the following skills:
• Knowledge of how an inverter works and operates.
• Training in how to deal with the dangers and risks associated with installing and using
electrical devices, baeries and systems.
• Training in the installaon and commissioning of electrical devices and systems
• Knowledge of the applicable standards and direcves.
• Knowledge of and compliance with this document, including all safety precauons.
• Knowledge of and compliance with the documents of the baery manufacturer,
including all safety precauons.
DANGER indicates a hazardous situaon which, if not avoided, will result in death or
serious injury.

Overvoltage or wrong wiring can damage the baery pack and cause deflagraon, which
can be extremely dangerous.
All types of breakdown of the baery may lead to a leakage of electrolyte or
flammable gas.
Baery pack is not user serviceable. High voltage is present in the device.
Read the label with Warning Symbols and Precauons, which is on the right side of the
baery pack.
Do not connect any AC conductors or PV conductors which should be only connected to
the inverter directly to the baery pack.
Do not charge or discharge damaged baery.
Do not damage the baery pack in such ways as dropping, deforming, impacng, cung
or penetrang with a sharp object. It may cause a leakage of electrolyte or fire.
Do not expose baery to open flame.
The inverter, the baery pack, the energy meters make up a system for opmizaon of
self-consumpon in a household. The inverter is equipped with two MPP trackers and
converts the direct current from the PV array into grid-compliant single-phase current
and feeds it into the ulity grid. The baery pack is used for the intermediate storage of
the energy.
The product is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The product must only be operated with PV arrays of protecon class II in accordance
with IEC 61730, applicaon class A. The PV modules must be compable with this
product.
PV modules with a high capacity to ground must only be used if their coupling
capacity does not exceed 1.0 μF.
All components must remain within their permied operang ranges at all mes.
Use this product only in accordance with the informaon provided in the enclosed
documentaon and with the locally applicable standards and direcves. Any other
applicaon may cause personal injury or property damage.
Alteraons to the product, e.g. changes or modificaons, are only permied with the
express wrien permission of AlphaESS. Unauthorized alteraons will void
guarantee and warranty claims. AlphaESS shall not be held liable for any damage caused
by such changes.
Any use of the product other than that described in the Intended Use secon does not
qualify as appropriate.
The enclosed documentaon is an integral part of this product. Keep the
documentaon in a convenient place for future reference and observe all instrucons
contained therein.
The type label must remain permanently aached to the product.

When exposed to sunlight, the PV array generates high DC voltage which
is present in the DC conductors. Touching the live DC cables results in death
or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be
reconnected before working on the device.
Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
Do not disconnect the DC connectors under load.
Wear suitable personal protecve equipment for all work on the inverter.

Touching ungrounded PV modules or array frames results in death or lethal
injuries due to electric shock.
Connect and ground the frame of the PV modules, the array frame and the
electrically conducve surfaces so that there is connuous conducon.
Observe the applicable local regulaons.
The baery pack comprises mulple baeries that are designed to prevent hazards
resulng from failures. However, AlphaESS cannot guarantee their absolute safety.
• If a user happens to be exposed to internal materials of the baery cell due to
damage on the outer casing, the following acons are recommended.
Inhalaon: Leave the contaminated area immediately and seek medical aenon.
Eye contact: Rinse eyes with running water for 15 minutes and seek medical
aenon.
Contact with skin: Wash the contacted area with soap thoroughly and seek
medical aenon.
Ingeson: Induce voming and seek medical aenon.
If a fire breaks out in the place where the baery pack is installed, perform the
following countermeasures:
• Fire exnguishing media.
Respirator is not required during normal operaons.
Use FM-200 or CO2 exnguisher for baery fire.
Use an ABC fire exnguisher, if the fire is not from baery and not spread to it yet.
• Firefighng instrucons
1. If fire occurs when charging baeries, if it is safe to do so, disconnect the
baery pack circuit breaker to shut off the power to charge.
2. If the baery pack is not on fire yet, exnguish the fire before the baery pack
catches fire.
3. If the baery pack is on fire, do not try to exnguish but evacuate people
immediately.
This secon contains safety precauons that must be observed at all mes when working
on or with the product.
To prevent personal injury and property damage and to ensure long-term operaon of
the product, read this secon carefully and follow all safety precauons at all mes.







If a ground fault occurs, parts of the system may sll be live. Touching live parts
and cables results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
Lethal voltage is present at the pin connector for the power cable. Reaching into
the pin connector for the power cable can result in lethal electric shock.

WARNING

During normal operaon, no electrolyte can leak from the baery pack and no
toxic gases can form. Despite careful construcon, if the baery pack is
damaged or a fault occurs, it is possible that electrolyte may be leaked or toxic
gases formed.
CAUTION

The heatsink and housing can get hot during operaon.
During operaon, do not touch any parts other than the cover of the inverter.

Disconnect the product from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be
reconnected before working on the device.
Touch the cables of the PV array on the insulaon only.
Do not touch any parts of the substructure or frame of the PV array.
Do not connect PV strings with ground faults to the inverter.
Do not open the baery pack.
Do not wipe over the baery pack with a damp cloth.
Leave the protecve caps on the pin connectors for the baeries power
connecon unl the inverter cables are connected to the baery pack.
Disconnect the product from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be
reconnected before working on the inverter or the baery pack.
Store the baery pack in a cool and dry place.
Do not drop the baery pack or damage it with sharp objects.
Only set the baery pack down on its back or its boom, i.e., on the side with
the mounng lugs.
Do not open the baery pack.
Do not install or operate the baery pack in potenally explosive atmosphere
or areas of high humidity.
If moisture has penetrated the baery pack (e.g. due to a damaged
enclosure), do not install or operate the baery pack.
In case of contact with electrolyte, rinse the affected areas immediately with
water and consult a doctor without delay.

Beware of a danger zone
This symbol indicates that the product must be addionally grounded if
addional grounding or equipotenal bonding is required at the installaon
site.
Beware of electrical voltage
The product operates at high voltages.
Beware of hot surface
The product can get hot during operaon.
Danger to life due to high voltages in the inverter, observe a waing me of 5
minutes
High voltages that can cause lethal electric shocks are pre-sent in the live
components of the inverter.
Prior to performing any work on the inverter, disconnect it from all voltage
sources as described in this document.
CE marking
The product complies with the requirements of the applicable EU direcves.
RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark)
The product complies with the requirements of the applicable Australian
standards.
Cerfied safety
The product is TUV-tested and complies with the require-ments of the EU
Equipment and Product Safety Act.
WEEE designaon
Do not dispose of the product together with the household waste but in
accordance with the disposal regulaons for electronic waste applicable at the
installaon site.

Four LED indicators are provided on the display panel.
Different colors represent different states: green for SOC , yellow for Protecon , red
for Error.
AlphaESS SMILE-S6-HV system (includes SMILE-S6-HV-INV and SMILE-BAT-8.2PH or
SMILE-BAT-5PH) can be applied in DC-coupled systems (mostly new installaon),
AC-coupled systems (mostly retrofit) , Hybrid-coupled systems (mostly retrofit, and
increase the PV capacity), and Off-grid (with Generator) systems as the following
schemes show :
The LED indicators provide informaon about the SOC operaonal status of the baery
pack.

5.1 Checking the Outer Packing
5.2 Scope of Delivery
Before unpacking the baery pack and inverter, check the outer packing for damage,
such as holes and cracks. If any damage is found, do not unpack the product and contact
your distributor as soon as possible.
Check the scope of delivery for completeness and any externally visible damage.
Contact your distributor if the scope of delivery is incomplete or damaged.

STORAGE  
4.1 Inverter Storage
The following requirements should be met if the inverter is not put into use directly:
1. Do not unpack the inverter.
2. Keep the storage temperature at -40~70°C and the humidity at 5%~95% RH.
3. The inverter should be stored in a clean and dry place and be protected from dust and
water vapor corrosion.
4. A maximum of six inverters can be stacked. To avoid personal injury or device damage,
stack inverters with cauon to prevent them from falling over.
5. During the storage period, check the inverter periodically. (It is recommended that the
check is performed every three months.) Replace the packing materials that are damaged
by insects or rodents in a mely manner.
6. If the inverters have been stored for more than two years, it must be checked and
tested by professionals before being put into use.
4.2 Baery Storage
The following requirements should be met if the baery pack is not put into use directly:
1. Place baeries according to the signs on the packing case during storage. Do not put
baeries upside down or sidelong.
2. Stack baery packing cases by complying with the stacking requirements on the
external package.
3. Store the baery pack out of reach of children and animals.
4. Store the baery pack where it should be minimal dust and dirt in the area.
5. Handle baeries with cauon to avoid damage.
6. The storage environment requirements are as follows:
– Ambient temperature: -10~55°C, recommended storage temperature: 15~30°C
– Relave humidity: 15%~ 85%
– Place baeries in a dry and clean place with proper venlaon.
– Place baeries in a place that is away from corrosive organic solvents and gases.
– Keep baeries away from direct sunlight.
– Keep baeries at least 2 m away from heat sources.
7. The baeries in storage must be disconnected from external devices. The indica-tors (if
any) on the baeries should be off.
8. Baeries should be delivered based on the "first in, first out" rule.
9. The warehouse keeper should collect baery storage informaon every month and
periodically report the baery inventory informaon to the planning department. The
baeries that have been stored for nearly 6 months should be recharged mely.
10. If a lithium baery is stored for a long me, capacity loss may occur. Aer a lithi-um
baery is stored for 12 months in the recommended storage temperature, the
irreversible capacity loss rate is 3%~10%. It is recommended that baeries not be stored
for a long period. If the baeries need to be stored for more than 6 months, it is
recommended to recharge the baeries to 65~75% of the SOC. For example, they can be
recharged every 6 months at least, and must be recharged to at least 50% of the SOC.

WARNING
Danger to life due to fire or explosion
Despite careful construcon, electrical devices can cause fires.


SMILE-S6-HV-INV (OUTDOOR) and SMILE-BAT-8.2PH (OUTDOOR) are suitable for
indoor and outdoor use.
SMILE-S6-HV-INV (INDOOR) and SMILE-BAT-8.2PH (INDOOR) and
SMILE-BAT-5PH (INDOOR) are suitable for only indoor use.
Do not install the inverter in a place where a person can easily touch because its
housing and heatsink are hot during operaon.
Do not mount the product in areas with flammable or explosive materials.
Do not mount the product at a place within children's reach.
Do not mount the product outdoors in salt areas because it will be corroded and may
cause fire. A salt area refers to the region within 500m from the coast or prone to sea
breeze. The regions prone to sea breeze vary depending on weather condions (such
as typhoons and monsoons) or terrains (such as dams and hills).
The product must be mounted in a well-venlated environment to ensure good heat
dissipaon.
When mounted under direct sunlight, the power of the product may be derated due
to addional temperature rise.
Mount the product in a sheltered place or mount an awning over the product.
The opmal temperature range for the baery pack to operate is from15 to 30℃.
Do not expose or place near water sources like downspouts or sprinklers.
If the baery pack is mounted in the garage, then ensure that it is above the height of
the vehicle bumper and door.
The mounng structure where the product is mounted must be fireproof.
Do not mount the product on flammable building materials.
Ensure that the mounng surface is solid enough to bear the weight load.
In residenal areas, do not mount the inverter on drywalls or walls made of similar
materials which have a weak sound insulaon performance. Because the noise gener-
ated by the inverter is obvious.

1. Li the baery pack by using the handles at the two sides, take it out from the
package carton. Do not put the baery pack upside down on the ground.
2. Place the baery posioning paper plate on the wall and sck the boom to the
floor, and mark the posions of the two drill holes.
3. Drill 2 holes on the wall with a diameter of 10mm and a depth of about 70mm.
6.3 Mounng the SMILE-BAT-8.2PH and Inverter
6.3.1 Mounng the baery pack

4. Aer cleaning the dust and other objects from the two holes, place 2 wall anchors into
the holes, then aach the baery wall bracket to the wall by using the SW10 hexagon
sleeve. Please use a level to ensure that the wall bracket is horizontal.
5. Install the cardboard limit board on the baery pack with screw M5*12 (X 2) (tool: T20
screwdriver, torque: 2.5Nm).
6. Place the baery against the wall, align the holes at the baery side to the screw holes
of the wall bracket.
7. Tighten the wall bracket and the baery pack with screw M5*12 (X 2) (tool: T20
screwdriver, torque: 2.5Nm).
If the floor of installaon site is uneven, please use floor gaskets to level at the
boom of the baery pack
WARNING

The Baery Pack is very heavy . There is risk of injury if the baery pack is lied
incorrectly or dropped while being transported or when aaching it to or removing it
from the wall bracket.
Transport the baery pack always as described below.
It is forbidden to stack 3 baeries from top to boom.
8. Mounng more baeries
You can install extra baeries up to 6 baeries in a system.
Please install extra baeries by side, also baeries can be stacked up to two bat-teries
per column. Expansion wiring please refer to Chapter 7.8.
1) If you will install extra baeries by side, please repeat steps 1-6 and keep the
distance between two baeries greater than 300mm. The space between the le and
the right baery is a recommended distance. Keep the distance as short as you can if
there is no influence to the operaon.

2) For baery stack, lock the screw M6*6 on top of the first baery pack.
3) Place the baery posioning paper plate against the wall and the boom with notch
against the first baery pack. Repeat steps 1-7.
4) The boom limit holes of the second baery will match the top screws of the first
baery.

The steps to mount the inverter are listed below:
1. Fit the boom of the inverter's posioning paper plate into the top of the baery
against wall, mark the posions of the drill holes on the paper plate.
2. Cover the top of the baery with plasc bag and drill 5 holes on the wall with drill Φ10,
insert 5 screw anchors into the drill holes.

6.3.2 Mounng the inverter

3. Aach the wall bracket to the wall by using the screws with the tool of SW10
hexagon sleeve. Please use a level to ensure that the wall bracket is horizontal.
4. Hold the inverter by using the handles at two sides, aach the inverter onto the wall
bracket lted slightly downwards. If the inverter is not aligned with the baery, please
increase or decrease PC gaskets to adjust it.
5. Tighten the wall bracket and the inverter with screw M6*16 (X 3) (tool: T20
screwdriver, torque: 3.0Nm).
7. Make electrical connecon (please refer to Secon 7 Electrical Connecon).
6. Remove the small support parts of the inverter cover and the two screws will be used
to connect to grounding point.

1. Place the inverter's posioning paper plate against the wall, use bubble or digital level
to make sure the paper plate is horizontal and the boom of the paper plate's height is
more than 1.2m, mark the posions of the drill holes on the paper plate.
2. Drill 5 holes on the wall with drill Φ10, insert 5 screw anchors into the drill holes.
6.4 Mounng the SMILE-BAT-5PH and Inverter

5. Remove the wall bracket from the baery and aach the wall brackets of inverter and
baery to the wall using the screws with the tool of SW10 hexagon sleeve. Please use
a level to ensure that the wall bracket is horizontal.
6. Hold the inverter by using the handles at two sides, aach the inverter onto the wall
bracket lted slightly downwards.
7. Tighten the wall bracket and the inverter with screw M6*16 (X 3) (tool: T20
screwdriver, torque: 3.0Nm).
8. Remove the small support parts of the inverter cover and the two screws will be used
to connect to grounding point .
9. Horizontally li the baery by using the handles at two sides, fit the rectangular hole
on the hanging lug with the wall bracket's folding lug and shi it to the right so that the
folding lug will be inserted into the rectangular hole. If the inverter is not aligned with
the baery, please increase or decrease PC gaskets to adjust it.

4. Drill 6 holes on the wall with drill Φ10, insert 6 screw anchors into the drill holes.
3. Place the baery's posioning paper plate against the wall, fit holes of the paper plate
named B1 with the boom two holes, mark the posions of the drill holes named A1
and A2 on the paper plate.

10. Tighten the baery wall bracket and the baery with screw M6*16 (X 4) (tool: T20
screwdriver, torque: 3.0Nm).
4) If the expansion baeries are installed by side:
Posion the posioning paper plate according to the installed baeries, and then repeat
steps 3-9 to install the expansion baeries.
1. Remove the WiFi cover from the le of the inverter (tool: T20 screwdriver).
2. Tighten the WiFi module on the inverter with screw M4*12 (X2) (tool: T20 screwdriver,
torque: 2.0 Nm).
11. Mounng more baeries
You can install extra baeries up to 6 baeries in a system.
1) If the expansion baeries are installed downwards:
Aach the posioning paper plate to the first wall bracket, and mark the wall through
holes (A2 and A1) on the paper plate. Use a hammer drill (Φ10.0mm; length 20cm) to drill
holes in A1 and A2 with a depth of about 7cm and fix the wall bracket ghtly to the wall
with expansion screws. Please repeat steps 8~9 to in-stall the expanded baery.
2) If the expansion baeries are installed upwards, inverng the posioning paper plate
and repeat the steps above.
3) Please use a level to ensure that the wall bracket is horizontal.
The baeries can be stacked up to three baeries per column. Keep the distance between
two columns of the baeries greater than 300mm. Expansion wiring please refer to
Chapter 7.8.

7.1 Overview of the Connecon Area

Before connecng cables, ensure that all switches and breakers of the inverter
and the baery pack and all the switches connected to inverter and the baery
pack are set to OFF. Otherwise, the high voltage of the product may result in
electric shocks.
*The DRM (Demand Response Enabling Device) is only for regions with AS/NZW 4777.2 safety regulaons.
**All breakers are switched off in transportaon.

The device damage caused by incorrect cable connecons is not covered under
