1.0 GENERAL
This manual contains information about the installation and operation of the ALTO 107840 Bluetooth
Audio Interface. Product information regarding mounting, mechanical, and electrical characteristics is
also detailed.

1.1 Equipment Description
The Bluetooth Audio Interface is an independent module that receives or transmits entertainment audio.
The unit can be operated via the button mounted on top, or paired with an external switch and LED for
remote installation.

audio streaming for the music player (source) to headphones
or speakers (sink)
SBC
Low complexity Sub-band Coding. Provides good audio quality
at medium bit rates while keeping low computational
complexity
AptX
A higher quality alternative to SBC codec used in A2DP.
Adopted to many Android platforms but not Apple OSX devices
AptX-LL
An AptX codec with low latency, around 40mS vs the normal
delay of around 150mS.

1.3 107840 Series Overview
The 107840 Bluetooth Audio Interface is a small module designed to provide a Bluetooth Audio link to
an aircraft audio system. The unit is available in two configurations:
Bluetooth Audio Receiver (Sink): The device receives a Bluetooth audio stream from a
Bluetooth audio source (i.e. a smartphone or tablet). The audio is decoded and output over an analog
wired connection to an audio amplifier.
Bluetooth Audio Transmitter (Source): The device is used as the source of Bluetooth audio. The
unit receives audio from an analog wired connection, encodes and then streams the audio via A2DP to
a receiver such as wireless Bluetooth headphones.

2.1 Pairing Switch and LED
The Pairing Switch and LED (pin 3 and 4) are located on the top of the Bluetooth Audio Interface. The
LED is blue and indicates current pairing status. If the BT Audio Interface is to be installed remotely,
there are two pins on the connector which can be wired to an external pairing switch and LED. For
more details on LED status and switch functionality, reference Section 3.1.
The pairing switch pin input accepts a momentary ground input and the LED output pin provides a
ground output when active.

2.2 Headphone Out / Auxiliary Input
The Bluetooth Transmitter includes headphone audio output lines (pins 5, 7, and 8), in the event that
the user does not have Bluetooth capable headphones. In this case, the traditional wired headphones
can be connected to a female 3.5mm jack (sold separately) installed adjacent to the pairing switch and
indicator. Wired headphones should not be used while the Transmitter is paired with a device.
The Bluetooth Receiver includes auxiliary audio input lines (pins 5, 7, and 8), in the event that the user
does not have a Bluetooth capable audio streaming device. In this case, the user can connect the
wired, analog audio output from their media device to an auxiliary 3.5mm audio input jack (sold
separately) installed adjacent to the pairing switch and indicator. Any Bluetooth connections should be
un-paired before connecting a wired, analog audio source to the auxiliary input lines otherwise audio
will be mixed from the aux input and the Bluetooth audio stream.
