Installation
Installation Requirements
Airconditionermustbe properly installed for safe
operation.Refer to Installation Guide included with unit for
detailed installation instructions. Small and mini chassis
airconditionersaredesignedforwindowinstallationonly,
using installation kit provided with unit. Large chassis air
conditioners may be installed in a window, using the
windowmountingkitprovided,orcanbe in installed
throughanoutsidewall.
NOTE: Consumerassumesallrisk for through wall
installations.
Beforebeginning any installation:
•Carefullyread all instructions for the installation. Make
sureeachstep or procedure is understood and any
special considerations are taken into account.
•Assemblealltools, hardware, and supplies needed to
complete the installation. Some items may need to be
purchasedlocally. Make sure everything needed to
installair conditioner is on hand before starting.
•After deciding where to install unit, closely look location
over—bothinsideandoutsidethehome.Noteany
potential obstacles or problems that might be
encountered.Chooseamoresuitablelocationif
necessary.
Electrical Requirements
WARNING
To avoid risk of personal injury or death due to
electrical shock:
•Electricalgroundingisrequired on all air
conditioners.
•Check with a qualified electrician if you are not sure
intendedelectricaloutletisproperlygrounded.
•DONOTgroundtogasline.
•DONOTuse cold water pipe for ground if pipeis
interrupted by plastic, non-metallic gaskets, or
otherinsulating (non-conducting) materials.
•DONOTmodifyplugonpowercord.Ifplugdoes
not fit electrical outlet, have a matching outlet
installed by a qualified electrician.
•DONOT have a fuse in the neutral or ground
circuit. A fuse in the neutral or ground circuit could
result in an electrical shock.
•DO NOT use an extension cord with this device.
•DONOTusean adapter plug with this device.
•Observeall local codes and ordinances.
For safety, air conditioner must be grounded. All air
conditionershave a power supply cord withathree-prong
grounding plug. To minimize possible electrical shock
hazard, the power cord must only be plugged into a
matchinggrounding wall receptacle in accordance with
theNationalElectricalCode (and any applicable local
codesand ordinances). Ifanappropriate grounding-type
wallreceptacle is not available, have aproperlygrounded
wall receptacle installed by a qualified electrician.
Ifcodespermit, and a separate grounding wire is used,
havea qualified electrician determine if grounding path is
adequateand uninterrupted by plastic, non-metallic
gaskets,or other insulating (non-conductive) materials.
Electrical Connection

Refertonameplateonairconditionerforexactvoltage
requirements.Voltage requirements can also be
determined by the type of plug on air conditioner. See
followingtable (Table 1).

Anappropriatewallreceptacle (electrical outlet) must be
withinreachofair conditioner power supply cord. Do not
use an extension cord. If power supply cord does not
reachintended wall receptacle, have a qualified electrician
installormovean appropriate receptacle closer to unit.
Donotusean adapter plug. If intended wall receptacle
doesnotmatchplugonairconditioner,haveaqualified
electrician replace receptacle with correct type.
Receptacle Wiring
Receptaclewiringmustbe of adequate size for unit. Refer
tounitidentificationplateforexactpower requirements.
Powerrequirementscan also be determined by the type
of plug on unit (see Table 1). Minimum size of wiring,
basedonpowerrequirements,is:
Units up to 20 amps: 12gauge
20–30ampunits: 10gauge
Use copper wire only. It is owner’s responsibility to
provideproper andadequatereceptacle wiring that
conforms to all applicable codes. All wiring should be
installed by a qualified electrician.
