AnalyticalTechnology,Inc. (Manufacturer) warrantstotheCustomerthatifanypart(s)
oftheManufacturer’sproductsprovestobedefectiveinmaterialsorworkmanship
withinthe earlierof 18monthsofthe dateof shipmentor12monthsofthedateofstart-
up, suchdefectivepartswillbe repairedorreplacedfree ofcharge. Inspection and
repairstoproductsthought tobe defectivewithinthewarrantyperiodwillbe completed
at theManufacturer’sfacilitiesinCollegeville,PA. Productsonwhichwarrantyrepairs
arerequired shall be shippedfreightprepaidtotheManufacturer. The product(s)will be
returnedfreight prepaidandallowed ifit isdetermined bythe manufacturerthatthe
part(s)failed duetodefectivematerialsorworkmanship.Thiswarrantydoesnot cover
consumableitems,batteries, orwearitemssubjecttoperiodicreplacement including
lampsandfuses. Gassensors,except oxygensensors, arecoveredbythiswarranty,
butaresubject toinspection forevidenceofextendedexposuretoexcessivegas
concentrations. Shouldinspection indicatethat sensorshavebeenexpendedrather
thanfailedprematurely, thewarrantyshall notapply. The Manufacturerassumesno
liabilityforconsequentialdamagesofanykind, and the buyerbyacceptanceofthis
equipment will assumeall liabilityforthe consequencesofitsuseormisusebythe
Customer, hisemployees, orothers.A defectwithinthe meaningofthiswarrantyisany
part of anypieceof aManufacturer’sproductwhichshall, when suchpart iscapableof
beingrenewed, repaired, orreplaced, operatetocondemnsuchpieceofequipment.
Thiswarrantyisinlieu ofall otherwarranties(includingwithout limiting the generalityof
the foregoingwarrantiesofmerchantabilityand fitness foraparticularpurpose),
guarantees, obligationsorliabilitiesexpressedorimplied bythe Manufacturerorits
representativesandbystatuteorruleof law. Thiswarrantyisvoidifthe Manufacturer’s
product(s)hasbeensubject tomisuseorabuse, orhasnotbeenoperatedorstored in
accordancewithinstructions,orif theserialnumberhasbeen removed. Analytical
Technology, Inc. makesno otherwarrantyexpressed orimplied exceptasstatedabove.

Part 1-Introduction
1.1General (Q45R,ORPMonitor)
TheModelQ45RORPmonitor/analyzerprovidesanextremelyversatile
measurement systemformonitoringandcontrolofORP (oxidation/reduction
potential, REDOX)overthe rangeof–1000 mV to +2000mV. The instrumentis
offeredstandardasaloop-powered transmitterfor2-wireDC applications.Since
thissystemconfiguration operatesoveronlytwolow-voltagewires, it isidealfor
remotemonitoringapplicationswhereline poweriseitherunavailableor
prohibitivelyexpensivetorun
Q45P Monitorsareavailableinfourelectronicversions,aloop-powered 2-wire
transmitter,an ACpowered monitorwithintegralalarmrelaysanddual4-20mA
outputcapability,a12-24 VDC unitwithdualoutputand relays,ora9VDC
batteryoperatedportableunit withtwovoltage outputsand built-indatalogger.
Inall configurations,theQ45RdisplaysmV,sensortemperature,and outputloop
currenton the secondaryline ofthecustomdisplay.The instrumentmaybe
used witheitherthe highperformanceQ25seriessensorsorwithcombination-
styleelectrodes.

NOTE:Duetothehigh degree offlexibilityoftheQ45 systemoptions,
itisimportanttonoteareasoftheoperating manualthatdetail

powersupplycardfor115/230VACoperation, 12-24 vdc, and optional

All forcedchangesinoutput condition includebumpless transfertoprovide
gradualreturntoon-line signallevelsand toavoidsystemcontrolshocks
on bothanalogoutputs.

isolated analogoutput.Softwaresettingsforrelaycontrolinclude setpoint,

readabilityeven inlowlightconditions.The secondaryline ofdisplay
utilizes5x7dotmatrixcharactersforclearmessagedisplaytwooffour

·Sensordiagnostics monitorglass breakage,sensorleaks,andRTD
condition.Diagnosticmessagesprovide acleardescriptionofany
problemwithno confusingerrorcodestolookup.Messagesarealso

1.6Sensor Features
·Ahighvolume,dualjunction saltbridgeisutilized tomaximizethe in-
servicelifetimeofthe sensor.The annularjunction providesalarge
surfacearea tominimizethe chanceoffouling.Largeelectrolytevolume
and dualreferencejunctionsminimizecontamination ofthe reference
solution. Thesaltbridgeisreplaceable.
·Thereferenceelementofthe sensorisaglass electrodeimmersed ina
referencebuffersolution.Thisglass referencesystemgreatlyincreases
the rangeofsensorapplications.
·An integralpreamplifierisencapsulatedinthe bodyofthesensor.This
createsalowimpedancesignaloutputwhichensuresstablereadingsin
noisyenvironmentsand increasesthe maximumpossibledistance
between sensorandtransmitterto3,000feet(914 meters).

1.8ImportantNotes
Theglass electrode must bewetted atall timestoensureproper
functionality. Q25Rsensorsareshipped withafluid-filledcapoverthe
electrodetoenableimmediateuse(removecap beforeinstalling,savefor
storageandshippingpurposes).Electrodesthathavedriedoutforany
reason shouldbehydratedfor24hourstorestorefull functionality.
A platinummeasuringelectrodeisstandard. However, DO NOTuse
platinumelectrode inprocess applicationscontainingcadmium(Cd),
nickel(Ni),tin(Sn),orzinc(Zn).Agoldelectrode isavailableforthese
applications.
Likewise, DO NOTuseagoldelectrodeinprocess applicationscontaining
Cyanide (CN-).
NOTE:ThestandardQ25Rprocesselectrodeismadeofmetal
on glassand maybreak ifnothandledproperly. Shouldthe
electrodeeverbreak,USE CAUTIONwhenhandling thesensor
toavoidseriouscuts.

2.1General
All Q45 Seriesinstrumentsoffermaximummountingflexibility.Abracketis
includedwitheachunitthatallowsmountingtowallsorpipes.Inall cases,
choosealocation thatisreadilyaccessibleforcalibrations.Alsoconsiderthatit
maybe necessarytoutilizealocation wheresolutionscanbeused duringthe
calibration process.Totakefull advantageofthe highcontrastdisplay,mount
the instrumentinalocation wherethe displaycan be viewed fromvariousangles
and longdistances.
Locatethe instrumentincloseproximitytothe pointofsensorinstallation -this
will alloweasyaccess duringcalibration.ThestandardcablelengthoftheORP
sensoris15feet. Forsensorcableslongerthan 30 feet,usethe optional
junctionbox(07-0100)and sensorinterconnect cable(31-0057).
Due tothe flexibilityofthe instrumentdesign,someofthemountingfeatures
changebased on the configuration thatwasordered.Forexample,the2-wire
transmitterversion isdifferentfromthe115/230 VACcontrollerbecausetherear
oftheenclosureismuchdeeperwhen theACpowered unitisused.Inaddition,
the ACpowered unithasan integratedpanelmountflangerequiringasingle
cutoutforflushmounting.RefertoFigure1andFigure2fordetailed dimensions

2.3Panel Mount,ACPoweredMonitor
PanelmountingofanACpowered monitorusesthe panelmountingflange
molded intothe rearsection ofthe enclosure.Figure6providesdimensionsfor
the panelcutout required formounting.
Thepanelmountingbracketkitmustbe ordered separately(partnumber05-
0068).Thiskitcontainsametalretainerbracketthatattachestothe rearofthe
enclosure,4screwsforattachmentofthisbracket, and asealinggaskettoinsure
thatthe panelmountedmonitorprovidesawatertightsealwhen mountedtoa
panel.
Thesealinggasketmustfirstbe attached tothe enclosure.The gasketcontains
an adhesiveononeside sothatitremainsinplaceon theenclosure.Remove
the protectivepaperfromtheadhesiveside ofthegasketand slide the gasket
overthe back oftheenclosuresothattheadhesiveside linesupwiththebackof
the enclosureflange.Onceinplace,you can proceed tomountthe monitorin
the panel.

TheQ25RORPSensorisdesigned forindustrialand municipalprocess
applications. Mountingoptionsinclude flow-through, submersion, insertion
(specialhardwarerequired), orsanitarymount dependingon thetype ofsensor
purchased.Thesensor-to-analyzerdistancemaybe extendedupto3000feet
withthe useofajunction boxand suitablecable.
Calibratethe sensorbeforeplacingit intothe process.SeePart 6ofthismanual
fordetailed calibrationinstructions.
Q25RDifferentialORPSensorsareavailablein4different versionsasshownin
Figure7. Theconvertiblestyleisthemost common andcanbeusedforeither
flow-throughorsubmersion applications.A convertiblesensorwithaquick-
disconnect receptacleisavailableforapplicationswheretheoperating
environment isrelativelyclean anddry. Thisversion maynotbe submergedand
shouldnotbeusedinunprotectedoutdoorlocations.Forspecialapplications,
the Q25Risalsoavailableinastainless steelbodiedversion forinsertion type
installations, orcan be suppliedineither1.5”or2”sanitaryversions.

tee isamodified pipe fittingthataccommodatesthepipe thread onthe frontof
the sensor.Samplemustflowdirectlyagainstthefaceofthe sensorasshown.
Thesensormaybe mounted horizontallyprovided thatthe outletflowispointed
up toavoid“air locking”inthetee.Notethatstandard1”teefittingswill notwork
without modificationduetoclearanceproblemsinmostmolded tees.
