Installation
Remove all packing materials from the AF-5E. Check if all foam and plastic padding is removed.
Connect all cables.
Do not supply power before the whole system is set up and connected properly.
Always disconnect from electric mains power supply before cleaning or servicing.
Damages caused by non-observance are not subject to warranty.
Setup and Operation
Follow the directions below, as they pertain to your preferred operation mode.
Before plugging the device in, always make sure that the power supply matches the product
specification voltage. Do not attempt to operate a 110 V specification product on 240 V power, or vice
versa.
Connect the device to the main power supply.
Control Modes
There are 2 modes:
●Manual
●DMX-512
One AF-5E (Manual)
01) Place the AF-5E on a flat surface. Leave at least 0,5 meter on all sides for air circulation.
02) Plug the end of the electric mains power cord into a proper electric power supply socket.
03) When the AF-5E is not connected with a DMX cable, it functions as a stand-alone device.
04) Please see 1. Manual Mode on page 10 for more information.
Multiple AF-5Es (DMX Control)
01) Place the AF-5E on a flat surface. Leave at least 0,5 meter on all sides for air circulation.
02) Plug the end of the electric mains power cord into a proper electric power supply socket.
03) Use a 5-pin XLR cable to connect the AF-5E and other devices.
04) Link the devices as shown in Fig. 02 on page 9. Connect a DMX signal cable from the first device's
DMX "out" socket to the second device's "in" socket. Repeat this process to link the second, third, and
fourth devices.
05) Supply electric power: Plug electric mains power cords into proper electric power supply sockets,
starting with the first device. Do not supply power before the whole system is set up and connected
properly.

Note: Link all cables before connecting electric power
Device Linking
You will need a serial data link to operate one or more devices using a DMX-512 controller.
The combined number of channels required by all the devices on a serial data link determines the
number of devices the data link can support.
Important:
Devices on a serial data link must be daisy-chained in a single line. To comply with the
EIA-485 standard, no more than 30 devices should be connected on one data link.
Connecting more than 30 devices on one serial data link without the use of a DMX
optically isolated splitter may result in deterioration of the digital DMX signal.
Maximum recommended DMX data link distance: 100 meters
Maximum recommended number of devices on a DMX data link: 30 devices
Data Cabling
To link devices together, you must obtain data cables. You can purchase DAP Audio certified DMX
cables directly from a dealer/distributor or construct your own cable. If you choose to create your own
cable, please use data-grade cables that can carry a high quality signal and are less prone to
electromagnetic interference.

Control Mode
The devices are individually addressed on a data-link and connected to the controller.
The devices respond to the DMX signal from the controller. (When you select the DMX address and save
it, the controller will display the saved DMX address next time.)
DMX Addressing
The DIP switches allow you to assign DMX device addresses, which is the first channel with which the AF-
5E will respond to the controller.
Please note when you use the controller, the device has 1 channel.
When using multiple AF-5E devices, make sure that you set the DMX addresses right.
Therefore, the DMX address of the first AF-5E should be 1(001); the DMX address of the second AF-5E
should be 1+1=2 (002); the DMX address of the third AF-5E should be 2+1=3 (003), etc.
Please, make sure that you do not have any overlapping channels in order to control each AF-5E
correctly. If two or more AF-5E devices are addressed similarly, they will work similarly.
Controlling:
After having addressed all AF-5E devices, you may now start operating these via your lighting controller.
Note: After switching on, the AF-5E will automatically detect whether DMX-512 data is received or not.
If it does not, the problem may be:
●The XLR cable from the controller is not connected to the input of the AF-5E.
●The controller is switched off or defective, the cable or connector is detective, or the signal wires are
swapped in the input connector.
Note: It is necessary to insert an XLR termination plug (with 120 Ohm) in the last device in order to ensure
proper transmission on the DMX data link.
Main Menu Options
1. Manual Mode
01) Plug the Schuko cable (08) into the appropriate 240 V AC power supply.
02) Make sure that DMX is not active. If DMX is active, Manual mode will not work.
03) Turn the speed selector (07) in order to set the desired fan speed. The adjustment range is between 0
(OFF) and 1–3(from low to high speed).
04) After use, turn the speed selector (07) to 0, to switch the AF-5E off.
05) Unplug the Schuko cable (08).

2. DMX-512 Mode
DMX products must have their own unique address to receive DMX signals.
Addresses on the controller are set by flipping the appropriate DMX DIP switches.
DMX address settings are the sum of the DIP switch values. The values, alongside with the corresponding
switches, can be found in the quick reference chart (see page 12).

Explanation: Since each device has 1 channel, each address advances by 1 value. (See Address Value
above.)
Once address values are determined, add DMX DIP switch values to obtain the appropriate address
(DMX DIP Switches "ON") for each device. Flip appropriate DMX DIP switches on each device.
Example 2
01) If you want to set a DMX address 133, you first have to find the number 133 in the DMX Address Quick
Reference Chart (see page 12).
02) Look at the left side (DIP Switches #1–5) horizontally from 133.
In the table you will see that #1=ON, #2=OFF, #3=ON, #4=OFF, #5=OFF.
03) Look at the upper side of the table (DIP Switches #6–9) vertically from 133.
In the table you will see that #6=OFF, #7=OFF, #8=ON, #9=OFF.

Maintenance
The operator has to make sure that safety-related and machine-technical installations are to be
inspected by an expert after every year in the course of an acceptance test.
The operator has to make sure that safety-related and machine-technical installations are to be
inspected by a skilled person once a year.
The following points have to be considered during the inspection:
01) All screws used for installing the device or parts of the device have to be tightly connected and
must not be corroded.
02) There may not be any deformations on housings, fixations and installation spots.
03) Mechanically moving parts like axles, eyes and others may not show any traces of wearing.
04) The electric power supply cables must not show any damages or material fatigue.
The AF-5E requires almost no maintenance. However, you should keep the device clean. Disconnect the
mains power supply, and then wipe the cover with a damp cloth. Do not immerse in liquid. Do not use
alcohol or solvents.
Please clean internal components once a year with a light brush and vacuum cleaner.
Keep connections clean. Disconnect electric power, and then wipe the DMX connections with a damp
cloth. Make sure that connections are thoroughly dry before linking equipment or supplying electric
power.
Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting guide is meant to help solve simple problems.
If a problem occurs, carry out the steps below in sequence until a solution is found.
Fan Does Not Function
If the fan does not operate properly, refer servicing to a technician.
Follow the steps below:
01) Power supply. Check if the device is plugged into an appropriate power supply.
02) If you are unable to determine the cause of the problem, do not open the AF-5E, as this may
damage the device and the warranty will become void.
03) Return the device to your Antari dealer.

14

No Response to DMX
Suspect the DMX cable or connectors, a controller malfunction, the device’s DMX card malfunction.
01) Check the DMX setting. Make sure that DMX addresses are correct.
02) Check the DMX cable: Unplug the device; change the DMX cable; then reconnect to electrical
power. Try your DMX control again.
03) Determine whether the controller or the device is at fault. Does the controller operate properly with
other DMX products? If not, take the controller in for repair. If so, take the DMX cable and the device
to a qualified technician.
