Introduction
The Aries BT9700 camera inspects waterwell and borehole walls between four and
twenty-four inches in diameter. The viewing module is articulated and pivots
between down view and side view with the press of a button. Camera also has
zoom and tilt capabilities in both down view and side view. It provides a 360º
continuous viewing capability for inspecting casing welds, perforations and open
borehole geological strata. The camera is suspended from an industry standard
Gearhart-Owens single conductor threaded connector. It is compatible with some
other manufacturers’ water well inspection and geophysical logging systems. Contact
Aries before connecting BT9700 to other systems.
A dual viewing camera is a precision photographic tool built to work in harsh
environments. Careful handling and good housekeeping reduces excessive wear,
breakage, downtime andexpensive repairs.
CAUTION: HANDLE WITH CARE
A. Do not hit bump, or drag the dual viewing camera housing and lighthead
assemblies against the water well casing, well head, or bottom of the well.
B. On a weekly basis inspect camera, connectors, O-rings and lighthead
assemblies for wearand tightness.
ATTENTION
Reduce Your Camera Repair Costs and
Downtime
Reasonable and cautious handling of the dual viewing camera and lighthead
assemblies while inserting and removing from water wells or boreholes greatly
reduces damage.
Reduce camera drag in bending or angular drilled well/boreholes with proper use of
the centralizer assembly.

Procedures Prior to Using Camera/Camera Control Unit Settings
The dual viewing camera is constructed from quality materials and is built to withstand
considerable rigorous treatment in harsh environments. However, care must be applied
when operating the camera to prevent damage to delicate electronic and photographic
components.
Procedures Prior to Using Camera
1. Inspect the camera.
Verify that the camera view ports and light ports are clean and free from dirt,
scratches, and any cracks.
Verify that lighthead screws (6ea) are in place and fullytightened.
Verify that no metal components are bent.
Verify that there is no water behind the viewing ports. Never operate the
camera with a cracked or broken lens.
Verify O-ring is installed between lighthead and front viewport.
2. Verify camera and controller connections. The camera connects to the single
conductor cablehead connection.
3. The camera controller connects to the mating receptacle either directly on the control
unit or to the adapter box.
4. The 7-pin cable, marked REEL, connects to the winch.
5. The encoder cable connects from the ELECTRONIC FOOTAGE COUNTER panel
marked COUNTER, to the winch connector at the footage wheel.
Camera Control Unit Settings
Lamp Intensity
Controls the DC voltage necessary to operate the camera. Also increases light
brightness.
Note: The minimum allowable voltage to the BT9700 is 100VDC.
CAUTION: DO NOT LEAVE THE LAMP INTENSITY SETTING ON HIGH FOR
EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME WITHOUT THE CAMERA AND
LIGHTHEAD CONNECTED.
Meter Select
AC VOLTS Ensures you have proper voltage being input to the Control Unit.
It should read approximately 120 Volts AC.
Normal Reading…….110-125VAC

970190_B Aries Industries, Inc. ▪(800) 234-7205 ▪www.ariesindustries.com Page 12
Meter Select (cont’d)
HV VOLTS This position indicates the voltage being delivered to the lighthead
and camera. This reading will vary with the setting of the lamp
intensity control. No reading would indicate a blown fuse, or tripped
circuit breaker in the Control Unit possibly caused by a shorted
cable, lighthead or camera.
Normal Reading………110-200VDC
HV AMPS This position indicates the current being supplied to the lighthead
andcamera. No reading would indicate an open circuit. An
excessive reading, full scale (2.5), would indicate a short in the
cable or lighthead.
Normal Reading………0-1.6
CAM SIG This position indicates relative camera signal levels from the camera
tothe Control Unit. No reading, or a very low reading would indicate
a problem in the camera or cable.
Normal Reading……….95-105
VIDEO This position indicates the relative video output level to the PVR
and/or monitor. A very low or high reading would indicate problems
within the Control Unit or that the camera lens iris is closed.
Normal Reading………..95-160
LV Indicates the relative output of the low voltage power supply +/-
12VDC, used in the control unit to power internal circuitry.
Normal Reading…………95-105
CTRL SIG Indicates the relative output of the remote control signal generator
whenany remote function switch is operated. For example, focus, iris,
color bars.
Normal Reading………..5-120
Also, on the front panel of your Control Unit you may find some of the following
connections or button/switches.
AC IN If your panel has this receptacle plug, insert the AC cable.
AC/Power By depressing or flipping the switch in the up position, AC will be
delivered to the control unit.
REMOTE This 6-pin DIN connector delivers the necessary FSK control signal
needed to control the dual viewing cameras functions.
Resettable
Fuses Your Control Unit may be installed with 2 or more resettable fuses. As
a short circuit, or a high current condition occurs, the fuse will
"pop" up and a white section will be exposed. After the short
circuit is repaired, you may depress the fuse and continue.

Adjust Factor
TANDEM can compensate small systematic errors of a Depth measuring assembly by
adding or subtracting a proportional correcting value. To calculate it, TANDEM uses
special multiplier or Factor. Knowing a relative Depth measuring assembly error (in %),
user can compensate it by adjusting the Factor to the same magnitude with an opposite
sign. To adjust the Factor, select <F2>→ Depth Setup → Depth Counter → Adjust
Factor.
Keys usage:
ARROW-Up/Down: increment/decrement Factor with 0.1% step within ±9.9% range
<Enter>: save changes and return to Main Mode
<ESC>: return to Main Mode without saving.
The default Factor value is zero.
