General Description
Overview
The Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) is built using many dierent internal and external
components. The following table highlights the primary components of the EGM represented in
this manual.
NOTE
The components included with the EGM may vary by jurisdiction and specic
installation requirements. Not all installations include all components listed in
table below.
Table 1 - EGM Components
EGM Module Description
Audio System The audio system typically includes 3 speakers (one at the top
and two at the bottom of the top door), a woofer speaker, and an
amplier.
Sounds and tunes combine with graphics and animations during
game play and attract mode. The sounds represent dierent EGM
conditions such as alarms, game play, win/lose notications, and
jackpots. Each game has its own unique sounds and tunes.
Backplane Board The backplane board is the interface between the carrier board
and the EGM components and is attached to the backside of
the logic cage. The carrier board inserts in the logic cage and
connects to the backplane board at the back of logic cage.
Bill Acceptor
(optional)
The bill acceptor validates inserted bank notes (bills) and
vouchers. Validated bills and vouchers are deposited and stored
in the cash box.
Carrier Board The carrier board connects to the backplane board to interface
with the EGM components. It houses the central processor and
other logic components of the EGM. The carrier board is secured
in the logic cage with a locked door.
Communications
Interface (optional)
The communications interface links the EGM to networks and
other external equipment.
Electromechanical
Meters (optional)
Electromechanical meters are used to record accounting data in
a physical format.
Light Tower
(optional)
The EGM can have either a multi-tier or single-strobe light tower.
The light tower provides additional customer service and security.
It alerts the operator when the EGM has a potential issue or
requires a handpay.
Logic Cage The logic cage is a secure enclosure that houses the carrier
board assembly.
Main LCD Monitor The main LCD monitor (main video display - MVD) is the primary
display for game operation and status information.

EGM Module Description
Printer
(optional)
The printer provides players with redeemable vouchers and
tickets.
Player Marketing
Module (PMM)
(optional)
The PMM interfaces with a venue network system that records
player transactions and sends messages to individual players.
Power Supply Unit
(PSU)
The power supply unit converts AC power input voltage into
low voltage DC power directed to the EGM components via the
backplane board.
Saddle Bag The EGM has two Saddle bags - one on each side of the cabinet.
The saddle bags act as enclosures for the bill acceptor, printer,
woofer and the amplier.
Topper
(optional)
The EGM may be tted with an LCD topper or a themed topper.
The topper is mounted to the top of the EGM and displays
artwork or video to attract players.
Virtual Button Deck
(VBD)
The VBD is a high resolution LCD touch screen device that
virtually renders a series buttons on its screen for game play and
other functions.

Modes of Operation
The electronic gaming machine (EGM) operates in two modes:
Play Mode permits game play while the main door is closed and locked, the meter/audit
key is in the neutral position, and there are no fault or lockup conditions.
Operator (Audit) Mode enables the operator to congure the EGM, view audit information,
perform EGM tests and reset EGM faults. To access this mode, set the meter/audit key to
the audit position.
NOTE
The Play Mode and Operator Mode may vary depending on the platform and
games installed on the EGM. Refer to the platform conguration manual for your
specic installation.
Play Mode
In play mode the EGM:
Permits game play.
Displays graphics for player operation.
Operates security and audit features.
Monitors and records game play.
Runs self-checking/testing.
Displays guidance for players, operators, and technicians.
Depending on how the EGM is congured, credits can be registered by:
Inserting cash or vouchers.
Using a cashless system.
In a cashless system, credits are transferred to and from the EGM by either a computer link or
smart card. The EGM has security features to ensure that only valid currency is accepted.
The player determines how many credits to wager by pressing one of the Bet buttons. The bet
meter on the screen displays the credits wagered.
The player starts a game by pressing one of the active buttons. The EGM runs the game
sequence and displays the outcome on the screen.
The EGM is equipped with electronic audit meters that continuously monitor and record credit
movement and EGM activity. This information is used for audit calculations and security
purposes. Electromechanical meters can also be congured.
If the EGM detects an abnormal condition, it alerts the operator by automatically entering
lockup. In lockup, game play is disabled to prevent any further player interaction. Lockup
information is displayed in the game message area.
