Introduction
Thankyou forpurchasingthe CROWLCD (liquid crystaldisplay)keypad.
The LCD keypad usestwolinesof16 characters todisplayfullalphanumerictext.
Thiskeypad has been designed tokeep the day todayoperation as simpleaspossibleso
that allusers will feelcomfortableusing the alarmsystem.Tosimplify normaldailyoperations
wehaveprovided many clearlyidentifiedkeypad buttonsthat are dedicatedtosingletasks.
The LCD keypad isalsoaverypowerfuldiagnostictoolallowing easy accesstothealarm
systems’event memory. The eventmemorystores multiplealarmactivityevents.Allofthe
events are logged withthe timeand datetheyoccurred and displayed viathe LCDkeypad.
The LCD keypad can be customized tosuittheparticular needsoftheend user andthis
manualdetailshowthesechangescan bemade.
The following pages explainhowtousethe manyspecialfeatures ofthiskeypad aswell as
howtoprogramthe customizablefeatures.

Settingthe KeypadAddress & Panel Type
Boththe Keypad addressand thepaneltype are changed inwhat iscalled LOCALMODE.
ToEnter LOCALMODE you mustpowerup the keypad and then pressthe“CONTROL”
button followed within2seconds withthe “ARM”button atthesametime.
The keypad will displayLOCALMODEKP1ontheLCD. Oneof programming addresses
belowcan nowbe entered.
*Changing the KeypadAddress*
Tochange the Keypad addresspress“PROGRAM900ENTER”,
The displaywill nowshowthe current address,simplypress anumber keyfrom 1-8.
Thiswill then be the newaddress and “ENTER”toconfirm.
(eachkeypad on thesystemmust haveadifferent address number).
*Changing the KeypadTamper*
Tochange the Keypad Tamper press“Program901ENTER”,
The displaywill nowshowthe current setting,simplypress anynumber key0-9.
Thiswill alternatethe setting between Enabled / Disabled.
Press “ENTER”toconfirm.
*Changing thePanel Type*
Tochange the PanelType press “PROGRAM902ENTER”,
The displaywill nowshowthe current Type,simplypress anumber keyfrom0-7.
The displaywill then display the newpaneltype.
0=ELITE LITE
1=ELITE 8D (default)
2=ELITE 16D
3=PW64a(version 1.01)
4=PW64b(version 1.04&up)
5=ELITE 64 (version2.00 -2.04)
6=ELITE 64 (version2.05 & up)
7=PROXREADER (AC-2)
ToExit LOCALMODE press“PROGRAM”then “ENTER”.

KeypadButton Descriptions

Thisbuttonisused toArmthefullalarm.
Thisbuttonisused do apartial“StayMode” arming.It is alsousedduring
Programmodetomovedisplaytext left.
Thisbuttonisused tomanuallybypasszones.Tousethisfeature press
bypass then thezone number you wishtotemporarilydisable.
Thisbuttonisused tostartthe “Event Memory”display mode.Itis alsoused
during programmode toStep Up(current address +1)tothe next program
address or increasethekeypad backlightinginconjunction withthe “Control”
button.
Thisbuttonisused toaccesseitherofthe twoprogramming modesin
conjunction withavalidcode and precedes allprogramaddresscodes whilein
programmode.
Thisbuttonisused toaccepttheentryof astring ofdigitsatthe keypad.When
the “Enter” buttonispressed it alsoclears allofthe previousdataentered
leaving it ready for thenext series ofkeypad entries.
Bypressing and holding the“Control”button for 2seconds, depending upon
the paneland the optionsselectedbyyour installer,you can directly controlthe
stateofvarious outputs on the panel.Pleaseconsultyour installer regarding
the options available.It isalsoused toaccessmanysubprogrammodes as
detailed above.
If you have2differentAreas, bypressthe“A”button you will justArmAreaA.
If you have2differentAreas, bypressthe“B”button you will justArmAreaB.
ThisButton when pressedwill Togglethe Chimefunction ONand OFF.

Local KeypadFunctions
*Adjusting the KeypadBacklighting*
The user can independentlyadjust the backlightleveloftheLCD displayand the keypad
buttons(LED) withinarange of 16stepsfromfullyoff tofullyon.
To increasetheLCD backlight levelPress “CONTROL” followed within2secondsby
“STAY”.Byholdingdownthe “Control”buttonand repeatedlypressingthe “STAY (LeftAr-
row)” button you canincreasethe LCD backlightleveltothe maximum.
To reducetheLCD backlight levelPress “CONTROL” followed within2seconds by
“BYPASS”.Byholding downthe “Control”button andrepeatedlypressing the“BYPASS
(Right Arrow)” button you candecreasetheLCD backlight leveldowntofullyoffifdesired.
To increasetheKeypadLEDbacklight levelPress “CONTROL” followed within2seconds
byMEM”. Byholding downthe “CONTROL” buttonand repeatedlypressingthe “MEM(Up
Arrow)”button you can increasetheKeypad LEDbacklightleveltothe maximum.
To reducetheKeypadLEDbacklight levelPress “CONTROL” followed within2seconds
by“ ”.Byholding downthe “CONTROL” button andrepeatedlypressingthe“ (Down
Arrow)”button you can decreasethe Keypad LEDbacklightleveldowntofullyoffifdesired.
*Adjusting the KeypadBuzzerTone*
The user can adjustthefrequency(tone) ofthe keypad buzzer withinarange of16 steps.By
adjustingthe frequency the volumeofthe tone produced atthe buzzer varies aswell.
To increasethefrequencyofthebuzzer Press“CONTROL” followed within2secondsby
“A”.Byholding downthe “CONTROL” button andrepeatedlypressingthe “A”button you can
increasethe frequencyofthebuzzer tone tothemaximum.
To decrease thefrequencyofthebuzzer
Press“CONTROL” followed within2secondsby
“B”.Byholding downthe “CONTROL” button andrepeatedlypressingthe “2” button you can
decreasethe frequencyofthe buzzer tone tothe minimum.
*Accessing Memory Display Mode*
The user can display the stored events atthe LCD keypad.Eachevent is displayed withthe
timeand datethattheevent occurred.
Tostartthe displayofthe memoryeventsPress the “MEMORY”button. The keypad will
displaythelatestevent.Tomoveon tothe next event keeppressingthe “MEMORY”button
and the events will be displayed onafter another.Ifthetext for the event istoolarge for the
displayyou can pressthe “BYPASS (RightArrow)” button toscroll thedisplay tothe rightand
the “STAY(LeftArrow)”button will allowyou toscrollthedisplaybacktotheleft.Using the
Right or Left buttonstemporarilyhaltsthememory fromadvancing tothe next event.
Pressing “ENTER” at any timeterminatesmemorydisplay mode andreturnsthe keypad
backtothe normalstate.

Local EditProgramMode
The LocalEditProgramMode allows the programming of acustomized “SystemName”(the
namedisplayed during idlemode at thekeypad), Customized “Zone Names”(thetext that
appears on thekeypad when azone isunsealed) andrenaming ofthe Partitionse.g.the
defaultPartition namesare “A”for the firstpartition and “B”forthe second partition but you
can renamethem“1” and “2” if youwish.
*Accessing Local EditMode*
Toenter LocalEditProgramMode Press “CONTROL” followed by“ARM”and holdfor 2
seconds.
NOTE:Youmustpressthe “CONTROL” buttonfirstand the“ARM”button must be pressed
within2secondsof pressing theControlbutton.Ifyou makeamistakepressthe“Enter”
button then repeatthe process.
The displaywill nowshow “LocalModekb#” (where the #equals the keypad address).
*Local EditModeProgramAddresses*
There are anumber of programaddresses availabletoyou atthispoint depending upon the
paneltype set by switches 4,5,6& 7.Theyare;
[PROG]-[1]-[ENTER] ZONE#1 TEXT(maximum16 characters)
Through to;
[PROG]-[8]-[ENTER] ZONE#8 TEXT(For Elite-Lite&Elite8D panels)
Through to;
[PROG]-[16]-[ENTER] ZONE#16 TEXT(For Elite16D panels)
Through to;
[PROG]-[64]-[ENTER] ZONE#64 TEXT(For PW64 &Elite64 panels)
[PROG]-[998]-[ENTER] AREAIDENTIFYINGCHARACTER(assigning numbers or
letterstoAreas)
[PROG]-[999]-[ENTER] PANELNAME DISPLAY(maximum16 characters)
*Changing the Zone Names*
When you haveentered “LocalEdit ProgramMode” and you haveentered one ofthe pro-
gramaddresses above,e.g. {PROG}-[1]-[ENTER],the displaywill look likethis;
The Cursor will be underneaththe first
letter tobe edited (inthiscasethe“Z”).
The letters <A..Z> indicatethatthelettersselected bythe numericbuttons(0-9) will be in
capitals.
Bypressing the “MEMORY”buttononce,the displaywill change to <a..z> indicating thatthe
letters selected by the numeric buttons (0-9) will be lower caseletters.You can cyclebackto
capitals bypressing the“DOWNARROW”button.

Onceyou haveselected the desired fontsizeyou can nowproceed tochange the text for
Zone 1.
The following tableshowsthe EnglishCharactersthatcan be selectedbyeachnumericbut-
ton.
The lower caseoptionsare shownin().
There are four differentselections per button.Bypressing thebuttononce, acharacter will
appear inthe display(see “1st press”columnbelow). Pressing the samebutton againwill
causethe display tochange tothenext character inthe sequence(see “2nd press”column).
Afteryou havepressed thesamebutton four timesthenext press(5th) will causethe display
towrap back tothe beginning.
Onceyou haveselected the firstcharacter,Pressthe “BYPASS”(right arrow)button tomove
the cursor one position totheright.
Nowselect the secondcharacter and movethecursor tothe right repeating theprocessuntil
all ofthe text iscompleted(Rememberthatthere are amaximumof16 charactersper pro-
gramaddress).
If you makeamistakeusethe“STAY”(leftarrow)button tomovethecursor towards theleft
and makeanycorrections.
When you are happywiththe textPress “ENTER” tosavethe changes.You can programthe
text for all zones inthe sameway.

*Changing the KeypadPanel Name*
When inLocalEditMode enter in
[PROG]-[999]-[ENTER] the displaywill look likethe exam-
pleabove(the actualnamewill depend on the settingsof switches4
-7 as per the chart on
page 4). Youmayenter anynameyou wishup to16 characters inlength(usingthe same
method as describedon theprevious pagesforzone names). Thisnameis displayed atthe
keypad inIdlemode.
When you are happywiththe changes Press“ENTER” tosave.
*Changing the KeypadArea Character*
When inLocalEditMode enter in
[PROG]-[998]-[ENTER] the displaywill look likethe exam-
pleabove. Youmayeditthe singlecharacter Area Namesatthisaddressstarting atArea
“A”(first left
-hand position).The keypad allows for up to16 partitions or areas butthe actual
number of areassupported will be dependant upon the paneltype set. The firstcharacter(in
thiscasethe ”
A”)istheidentifier used toshowthe status ofthefirst Partition.The second
position(inthiscasethe “B”) istheidentifier used toshowthe status of thesecond partition.
If you preferred tohavethe first partition shownasArea “1” and not“A”thenyou can change
it here using the samemethodas used previously. Withthecursor underneaththe letter “A”,
Pressthe “1” button four times until the characterinthe firstslot shows “1”.
When you are happywiththe changes Pressthe“ENTER” button tosavethe changes.

*Copying the textto otherLCD keypadsconnectedto the panel*
If more thanone LCD keypad is connected tothepanel,itis possibletocopytheeditedText
fromone LCD keypad toanyotherkeypadsconnected tothe samepanel.
Whilein“LocalEditMode” atthe keypad withthe edited text, if you pressand hold “CHIME”
the text inyour keypad will be transferred toallother LCD keypadsconnected tothepanel.
NOTE:EachLCD keypad MUSTbesettoadifferentaddressfor thisfunction toworkcor-
rectly.
*Exiting Local EditProgramMode*
Press “PROGRAM”then “ENTER”(the LCD keypad will leaveLocalEdit Mode and return to
IdleMode).
*Deleting UserCodes*
ToEraseaUser Code you must beinprogrammode or client modeand havepermission to
change usercodes.Toenter client mode press “PROGRAM”followed bythe Master code
(default 123) and “ENTER”.The keypad display shouldnowsayCLIENTMODE.Nowpress
“PROGRAM”and theUser slot numberyou wishtoDeleteandpress “ENTER”,thecode
shouldbe displayed.Toerasethiscode pressand holdthe “CONTROL”buttonand within2
seconds press the “0”button,thecode will disappear. Toacceptthispress“ENTER”
example;
