ASCO Model 318
Surge Protective Device (SPD)
Introduction The ASCO Model 318 surge protective device is a high quality, high energy
surge current diversion system designed for use with equipment that is
sensitive to damaging transient voltage surges.
The Model 318 is designed to be easily installed in existing AC panelboards
and control panels using standard DIN-rail mounting brackets.
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
• Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe
electrical work practices. See NFPA 70E, NOM-029-STPS or CSA Z462.
• This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualied electri-
cal personnel.
• Turn o all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside
equipment.
• Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to conrm power is o.
• Replace all devices, doors and covers before turning on power to this
equipment.
• This equipment must be eectively grounded per all applicable codes.
Use an equipment-grounding conductor to connect this equipment to the
power system ground.
• Conrm that the Surge Protective Device voltage rating on the module
or nameplate label is not less than the operating voltage.
• Do not supply more than 125VAC or 3 Amps to contacts
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including
DINP, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, and

Installation
Wiring Diagrams
1. Turn o power prior to installing SPD.
2. Install SPD on a 35mm Din Rail in a suitable enclosure.
3. Connect SPD in parallel with the power source. (See Connection
Wiring Diagrams). Keep wire lengths as short as possible to maximize
performance.
4. Use #6-#14 AWG wire for terminal connections. Maximum torque to be
applied to terminal screws is 14.75 in-lb [1.67 N-m].
5. The Model 318 has optional remote status contacts. The contacts may
be wired using either the normally open “NO” or normally closed “NC”
positions depending on the application. See Remote Output Diagram.
The contacts are rated 125VAC, 3 Amps maximum.
6. Turn on power and verify operation.
