1. Introduction
This user guide provides the information about how to program AX88179A & AX88772D
eFuse and external SPI flash.
2. Windows Mass Production Tool
ASIX Electronics provides a Windows Mass Production Tool for users to easily program the
eFuse and Flash of AX88179A & AX88772D applications on a typical Windows PC. This
Windows mass production tool supports to customize the MAC address, Serial Number, Vendor
ID and Product ID, etc. for AX88179A & AX88772D based application systems in mass
production.

2-2. eFuse Programming
2-2-1 Function Description
The following is the eFuse programming user interface of Windows Mass Production tool.

Dump the eFuse content to save into the eFuse_Dump.txt file.

Save currently eFuse configuration data of UI to eFuse.ini.

Default WOL
Set Default WOL functionality.
DWOL Magic packet / DWOL Link change:
Wake up by magic packet and link change events.
S5 WOL Magic packet / S5 WOL Link change:
Wake up by magic packet and link change events from S5 power
state.
PME Retry: Keep retrying until resume
PME IND: Active continually pulse
PS: It will set PME pin If any checkbox is checked. The default of
GPIO_8 is an external wakeup pin.

The Current MAC Address should be smaller than the Max MAC Address.
The Increment Number is 0 ~ 9. “0” means non-increased MAC address after
programming.

Set Current/Maximum Serial Number and Increment of Serial Number:
The Current Serial Number should be smaller than the Max Serial Number.
The Increment Number is 0 ~ 9. “0” means non-increased Serial Number after
programming.

Set Manufacture String and Product String in ASCII text:
The max length of Manufacture String is 18 characters.
The max length of Product String is 18 characters.

ID
Set Vendor ID and Product ID:
ASIX’s default Vendor ID is 0B95h.
AX88179A_772D’s default Product ID is 1790h.

Use Default Mac
and serial No.
When attach
Set to use AX88179A_772D inside of default mac address and serial number.

Flash
Reprogramming
Set flash reprogramming functionality once the SPI flash is not empty.

2-2-2 eFuse Programming Usage Procedures
The following are the eFuse programming procedures of Windows Mass Production tool.
1. Please install the standard AX88179A_772D Windows driver first if it had not been
installed before.
2. Check if AX88179A_772D Windows driver was installed properly.
Note: Please refer to section 2-4 to install Windows driver or click here.

3. Double-click the MassProductionTool.exe tool to run the Windows Mass Production Tool.

Note:
If the eFuse.ini file is not existent in the same subdirectory of AX88179A_772D Mass
Production Tool folder, users will see the following warning dialog while running
MassProductionTool.exe. The tool will auto-create this data file, and users can just ignore this
warning message.

4. Configure proper settings on all fields of Windows Mass Production tool. Re-confirm all
settings that match your AX88179A_772D application’s configuration; for example,
VID/PID, MAC Address, Serial Number, Manufacture/Product String, LED Setting, etc.

5. Press “Program”button to start programming AX88179A_772D eFuse data into eFuse.
The test results will be displayed in the “Result”window after programming eFuse
completely. A big green “O”shown on Result’s pane means successful and a big red “X”
shown on Result’s pane means failure.

6. After programming, you can verify the programmed eFuse data to prevent operating error
from the tool.
Please follow the following procedures to confirm the programmed eFuse to check if you
had programmed the eFuse as expected.
a) Press the “Dump eFuse”button to dump the programmed eFuse content into the
eFuse_Dump.txt file in the folder that the MassProductionTool.exe tool was located.

b) Check the dump programmed eFuse file with the value that you fill in the field on user
interface to confirm all eFuse contents were programmed as you expected.

Note: AX88179A_772D supports external SPI Flash for storing specific firmware.

The following are the flash programming procedures of Windows Mass Production tool.
1. Please install the standard AX88179A_772D Windows driver first if it had not been
installed before.
2. Click “Open” button to select firmware file path.

PS: Please click “Flash Reprogramming”checkbox once the SPI flash wants to reprogram firmware
again.

external SPI Flash. The programming result will be displayed in the “Result”window after
programming external SPI Flash completely. A big green “O”shown on Result’s pane

2-4. How to Install Windows driver.
2-4-1 Force to install Windows driver (Recommended)
You can refer to below procedures to force to install the AX88179A_772D Windows driver on
AX88179A & AX88772D devices. The solution adapts to all Windows platforms.
Step 1.
PS: AX88179A and AX88772D USB Ethernet controller are compatible with AX88179 Window inbox
driver, you will see the "ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter" message showed in
the Device Manager when AX88179A or AX88772D device is plugged into the USB host. Please
update properly driver as this section description.
