1. OVERVIEW
IMPORTANT:
Do not use the Aspire Star Patient Mover without having first read this manual.
The Aspire Star Patient Mover (the Star Mover), provides a simple solution for
transferring a user from a bed or chair in comfort and safety.
Oering a compact and versatile design, the Star Mover is suitable for Homecare,
Acute Care and Aged Care environments.

2. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
INTENDED USE OF THE PRODUCT
The Star Mover has been designed
to transfer human patients with the
assistance of one carer or attendant.
The Star Mover should only be used with
Aspire approved standing slings, which
have been chosen and assessed by a
competent trained health professional.
For a complete list of all compliant slings
please contact Aidacare on 1300 133 120.
IMPORTANT – only approved slings and
accessories are compatible with this
product. If you are unsure please contact
Aidacare on 1300 133 120.
The correct and appropriate use of the
Star Mover reduces the risks associated
with manual patient handling. The lifting
and transferring of patients should
always be assessed and planned by a
trained health professional.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
ALWAYS ensure that attendants have
read this guide before operating the
patient mover.
ALWAYS use slings that are assessed
and considered suitable by a trained
healthcare professional.
ALWAYS ensure the area around the
patient mover and patient is clear of
obstructions.
ALWAYS minimise the distance over
which the patient is being transferred by
positioning support surfaces as close as
possible.
ALWAYS ensure braking castors are
locked when performing transfers in and
out of the Star Mover.
DO NOT operate the patient mover
without correct manual handling training.
IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT USE.
DO NOT use the patient mover where
any doubt exists regarding the safety
of the patient mover, including but not
limited to wear or damage with particular
importance to be placed on the standing
sling attachment points.
DO NOT use the patient mover with
slings showing any signs of wear or
damage, including fraying.
DO NOT exceed the 185kg safe working
load of the Star Mover.
DO NOT leave user unattended at any
time.

1. Insert each Side Frame into the base,
these are notched on the end to ensure
they locate correctly.
2. Using the washers and spacers
provided, loosely fit the Knee Pad to
the Side Frame ensuring that the Knee
Pad is positioned correctly.
3. Fasten Knee Pad in place by securing
both bolts, allowing no movement
of the Knee Pad.
4. Locate the Grab Bar and 2x sling anchor
bolts.

5. Place the Grab Bar in between the arms
of the Upright Frame and insert the sling
anchor boltsin as shown. Tighten and
secure bolts to lock into the Grab Bar.
6. Fasten the Upright Frame to the
Base Unit using a large washer and
bolt. Tighten the bolt firmly. The bolts
are provided with threadlocker on
the thread, if this is missing or more is
required, medium strength 243 Loctite
can be applied before tightening.
7. Select the desired seat pad
(left or right) and insert into the
appropriate side frame.
8. Slide the Narrow retaining ring over
the seat pad mounting and nest the
mounting into the frame. Check
to ensure it can freely rotate through
range.
9. Check the Deep retaining ring is already
positioned in the Mounting plate.
10.Fasten the three Bolts evenly and
check the pad is free to rotate through
range. Tighten each bolt firmly.
11. Press the Cover cap in place.
12. The fitting process is the same for
both Seat Pads.
13. Complete a final check after all bolts
are tightened to ensure the Seat Pads
are rotating smoothly.
14. Assembly is now complete and the
Star Mover should look like this image
on the right.

6. GENERAL OPERATION
5. PRELIMINARY CHECKS
After assembling the Star Mover, complete the following checks prior to first use.
1. Check the seat pads are secure and rotate back and forth smoothly throughout
the full range of movement.
2. Check that locking castors engage and disengage.
3. Check that the leg opening and closing mechanism works correctly using the
Foot Pedal.
4.If using a sling, ensure the clip attachment is securely mounted to the sling
anchor bolts on the frame.
Transferring to the Star Mover
1. Position the Star Mover close
to the user requiring transport.
2. To open or close the legs, push down
on the Foot Pedal. Legs can be opened
around chair legs OR closed to slide in
between.
3. Apply the rear castor brakes by
pressing down on the locking tabs.

4. Raise the Seat Pads using the
integrated handle.
5. With feet positioned on the footplate,
the user should grasp the Grab bar and
stand up with lower legs against the
Knee Pad for support.
6. Once the user is fully standing, lower
the Seat Pads so the user can be
seated. Once the user is secure, release
the Castor Brakes by lifting the locking
tabs. The carer can then move the Star
Mover using the Push Handles as shown
below.

provided for users who require extra
support.

1. Position the Star Mover close to the seat
or bed.
2. Open the legs of the Star Mover for
greater stability. Do this by pushing
down on the Foot Pedal.
3. Apply the Castor Brakes by pressing
down on the locking tabs.
4. Have the user stand up using the Grab
bar for assistance. Lift up the Seat Pads.
5. The user can now slowly lower
themselves onto the seat using the Grab
bar for support. The carer should hold
the Star Mover by the Push Handles
throughout this operation.
6. Ensuring that the user has removed
their feet from the footplate, the carer
can now unlock the Castor Brakes and
wheel away the Star Mover.
1. The Knee Pad can be height adjusted
using an allen key. Loosen the bolt on
either side until the Knee Pad is free
to move.
2. Slide the Knee Pad to the correct
position and fasten both bolts securely.

1. Position the user facing the Star Mover
with their feet on the floor.
2. Apply the Castor Brakes, open the legs
of the Star Mover if required and flip up
the Seat Pads. Ensure the user’s feet are
squarely on the footplate.
3. The user should grasp the Grab bar with
both hands for assistance standing up.
4. Once the user is fully standing, flip down
the Seat Pads for the user to sit on.
5. The carer can then remove the brakes
and propel the Star Mover to the
required destination.
1. Position the user so they are facing the
Star Patient Mover with their feet on the
floor.
2. Open the legs of the Star Mover if
required, flip up the Seat Pads and apply
the Castor Brakes. Ensure the user’s feet
are squarely on the footplate.
3. The user should grasp the Grab bar with
both hands for assistance standing up.
4. Once the user is fully standing, flip down
the Seat Pads for the user to sit on.
5. The carer can then disengage the Castor
Brakes and commence transport of the
patient.
The Star Mover can be used to aid a user
getting out of bed. The Star Mover can be used to aid a
user get out of a chair or wheelchair, or
o a commode or toilet. If used with a
wheelchair, the wheelchair brakes must
be applied and leg rests removed prior to
operation.

8. SLING COMPATIBILITY
The Aspire Standing Sling range is designed specifically for safe user with the Star
Patient Mover. Always consult with Aidacare if wanting to use a dierent brand of clip
sling to ensure compatibility.
9. CARE & MAINTENANCE
For trouble-free operation and prolonged working life of the Star Mover, we
recommended periodic inspection by a person suitably qualified and acquainted with
the design, use and care of patient movers.
If inspection reveals that the safety of the Star Mover has been jeopardized in any
way, the unit should be IMMEDIATELY WITHDRAWN FROM SERVICE, tagged as such,
and reported to the owner.
MAINTENANCE GUIDE & CHECK LIST
• Check Castors are fastened securely to the frame
• Castors should run and swivel smoothly - periodically remove any hair or other
fibres that have built up within the Castor.
• Check that the brakes on the rear Castors function normally.
• Clean surfaces with a pH-neutral detergent - chlorine and phenol based detergents
should not be used as these may damage patient mover components and surfaces.
• All moving parts and pivot points should be routinely checked for fatigue and
lubricated if necessary.
• Sling attachment points should be checked for general wear and tear and replaced
if necessary.

10. WARRANTY & SERVICE
AIDACARE warrants its products to be free from material- and workmanship-related
defects under normal use and service. From the date of purchase, within the period
stated below, we shall repair or replace without cost to the original customer, any part
assembly or portion thereof which shall be returned to AIDACARE and deemed to be
defective by our own inspection.
1. Star Mover Frame and all Parts - 2 years
WARRANTY IS CONTINGENT UPON ANNUAL SERVICING BEING COMPLETED FOR
THE LENGTH OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
AIDACARE cannot be held responsible for any personal injury, damage to the Star
Mover or damage to property resulting from improper or unsafe use of the product.
No warranty claim shall apply where the product or any part thereof has been
modified, varied, altered or damaged either accidentally or through improper or
negligent use.
No warranty claim shall apply where the patient mover has been repaired or serviced
by parties other than those accredited and/or approved by Aidacare.
ALL WARRANTIES MADE ARE BACK TO BASE WARRANTIES MEANING THAT ANY
PARTS OR WHOLE STAR MOVERS REQUIRING REPAIR NEED TO BE RETURNED
TO THE NEAREST AIDACARE SERVICE CENTRE AT THE CUSTOMER’S EXPENSE
– PLEASE CONTACT AIDACARE FOR A CURRENT LIST OF SERVICE CENTRE
LOCATIONS .

11. TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING: TROUBLESHOOTING SHOULD ONLY BE CARRIED OUT BY AIDACARE
AUTHORISED SERVICE TECHNICIANS.
The following is a guideline only to general troubleshooting.
PROBLEM POTENTIAL FAULT ACTION
Castors are not moving
smoothly over carpet or other
surfaces.
Build up of material in castor
housing.
Clean castors thoroughly.
Castors not sitting flat on the
floor.
Castor may be lodged
incorrectly in mount point.
Remove unit from service and
contact Aidacare immediately
for inspection and possible
castor replacement.
Seat and Knee Pads are not
swiveling.
Connection points could have
become loose or unsecured.
Remove unit from service and
contact Aidacare immediately
for inspection and possible
castor replacement.
Leg operation is not
functioning when engaging
foot pedals.
Build up of material in leg
opening mechanism.
Clean thoroughly. If problem
persists, contact Aidacare
for inspection.
