A.Introduction
Thankyoufor choosingthe D1817PK. The main features includea
8" Wide Screen (16:9 Aspect Ratio) LiquidCrystalDisplay(LCD)
monitorandaDVDplayer. The unit appliesthelateststate oftheart
electronicsand isdesignedfor useinhotels, offices, vehiclesor
your home. Theunit is constructed toprovideyears ofreliable,
trouble-free service, and is compact so that you can take itwithyou
anywhereand is designed forquickand easyinstallation.Please read
theentire instruction manual supplied withthis product prior to use.
Thedocumentation will assist youininstalling thesystem properlyto
obtain thebest equipment performance. Please savethismanual for
later use.
B. Cautions and Warnings
1. Placement
Toprevent fireorelectric shock,donotexpose this appliance to
rain or moisture.Donot place the set on an unstable cart, stand,
tripod, bracket ortable toprevent it fromfalling. Keeptheunit away
from strongmagnets,heatsources,directsunlight, excessive dust.
Ifthe unit is brought directlyfrom a cold to a warm location, mois-
ture maycondense inside the unit. When you move it from a cold
toa warm location, wait forabout one hourbefore operating the
unit, or removethe discandleave theunitturnedonuntilthemois-
ture evaporates.
2. Installation
Ensure that the D1817PK is usedin accordance with the instruc-
tions and illustrations provided in this manual.
3. Caution
Donotpushobjectsof anykindintothe unitthroughopenings;do
notspill or sprayliquid ofany kind on orin the system (this may
result in a fireor electricshock). Donot place anything heavyon
the unit. To ensure proper ventilation and proper operation, never
coverorblocktheslotsandopenings withaclothorothermaterial.

Keep theunit away fromanopenflamesuch as fire, candle etc.
Replace the battery onlywiththesame or equivalent type to pre-
ventdamagetothe unit. Inorder toprotecttheenvironmentplease
disposeof thebattery properly.Donot use the unitintemperatures
higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius.
4.Disassembly
Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet. There is ariskofelec-
tricshock and/orexposure to LaserRadiation. Contact qualified
service personnel ifyour system needs repair.
5. Cleaning
Whencleaning,makesurethesystem isunplugged fromthepower
source. Donotuseliquid cleaners or aerosolcleaners. Usea cloth
lightly dampenedwith waterfor cleaningtheexterior ofthe system
only.
6. Disc
Do not use irregularlyshaped discs such asheart orstar-shaped
discs as theymay cause the unittomalfunction.Donotstickpaper,
tapeor glue on the disc. Do not expose thedisc to direct sunlight
or heat sources. Do not touchthe surface ofdisc. Handle thedisc
by itsedge. Cleanthedisc bywipingthedisc from the center out
with acleaning cloth. Removethe disc from the unit and store it in
its case after playing. Some playbackoperationsofdiscs maybe
intentionally fixed bysoftwareproducers. Since this unitplays discs
according to the disc contentsthesoftwareproducers designed,
some playbackfeatures maynot be available. Also refer to the in-
structionssuppliedwiththediscs.
7.Regional Coding
Both theDVDplayer and disc are coded by region. These
regional codes must match inorder for thedisc toplay.Ifthe
codesdon’t match, the disc won’t play. This unit’s code is region
1. DVD’swith other regionalcodes cannot beplayed in this unit.

D. Powering and installation
1. Powering the system indoors (Refer to Figure 1)
Plug one end of the AC to DC adapter into the DC 9-12V jackon
the rightside ofthe main unit, then plugthe otherend intothe 120V
AC power outlet.
2. Powering the system in a car (refer to Figure 1)
Plugone endofthe DCPoweradapter intothe DC 9-12V jack on
theunit, thenplugthe other endinto the vehicle power outlet.

E. Vehicle Installation
Installingthe DVD Player onto the seat back ina car
(Refer to Figure 2)
1).Unfoldthe carrybag, andplace the DVD player on the bag
beneaththe elastic straps. Ensurethat the unit’scornersare
secured bythe elasticstraps.
2).Securetheupper portion of the carry bag toheadrest support
barsusingthe headreststrap.Adjust the headreststrap untilthe
bag isfirmly secured.
3). Securethelowerportionofthecarry bagto the vehicleseat back
using the seatback strap.Adjust the seat back strap until the
bag isfirmly secured.

G. Loading and Playing a Disc
a.Afterconnecting power tothe unit, turn theDVD playeron withthe
power switch. The power indicatorwill light.
b.Open the disc traybyslidingtheOPEN switch in the direction of
thearrowand placea disc intothe tray with the label sidefacing
up.
c.Close the traybypressingthe area marked PRESS”on the disc
door. The unit willread the discand start playing.
d.Rotate theBRIGHTNESSandVOLUMEcontrolsto adjust the
brightness and the volume to the desired levels.
e.Tostopplayingadisc, pressSTOP.
f.Toturnoffthe DVDplayer,slidethe POWERON/OFFtoOFF.
TheDVD player’s POWER indicatorwill turn off.

Press ‘SETUP’to displaythe Main screenofthe Setup Menu on the
screen.Press ‘SETUP’again toexittheSetupMenuand the unitwill
resume it’s last playbackmode.

a).Select ‘TV Display’usingthe UP/DOWNbutton, andthen press
RIGHTtoenterthe submenu.Selectthe TVdisplaymode on the
screen using UP/DOWN, and press ENTER to confirm theset-
ting. Press LEFT to return.
*Normal/PS:Whentheplayerisconnectedto anormal TV,and
a widepicture is shown on the full screen.
*Normal/LB:When the playeris connectedto anormalTV, and
a widepictureisshown onthe screenwith a blackstripatboth
the top and bottom of the screen.
*Wide: Whenthe player is connected to a wide screen TV,a
wide picture is shown on the full screen.

b).Select ‘AngleMark’usingthe UP/DOWNbutton, and thenpress the
RIGHTbutton to enterthesubmenu. Choose Angle Markon or off
using the UP/DOWNbutton and then press ENTER to confirmthe
setting. Press the LEFT button to return.

theRIGHTbuttontoenterthe submenu.Choose Screen Saveronor
off usingthe UP/DOWNbutton and then press ENTER to confirm
the setting. Press the LEFT button to return.

effectiveevenafter youhave selectedyourownpasswordand
changedit. Toavoid the possibility of othersusing thedefault
passwordtosettheparental level andchangethe password,you
canrecord this defaultpassword in anotherarea anddelete itfrom
this manual. Some discs canbe limited dependingon the age of
userswhilesomediscs cannot.

4).With nodisc inside the player select ‘Preference Page’usingthe LEFT /
RIGHTbuttons, thenpress ENTERto enterthe preference page.
a. Select ‘Audio’usingthe UP/DOWN button, thenpress RIGHTto
enterthe submenu. Selectthe audio languageyou desireusingthe
UP/DOWNbutton, thenpressENTERtoconfirm the setting. Press
LEFT toreturn.

Note: Language and subtitle selection isonly available fordiscs that
arerecorded intheabovelisted languages. If the selected, lan-
guageis not available,the playerwillplay and displayonthe screen

enterthesubmenu.SelecttheDiscMenu Languageyou desire using
theUP/DOWNbutton,thenpressENTERto confirmthesetting.Press

d. Select ‘Parental’using the UP/DOWNbutton,thenpressRIGHT to
enter thesubmenu.

Select the parental level you desireusingtheUP/DOWN button for
discs with lock-out function or multiplerating levels. Theseare listed
fromthe lowestlevel (1Kid Safe)to the highestlevel (8Adult). Entera
4 digitpassword,then press ENTER to confirm theparentallevelset-
ting.
NOTE: The levelof8Adult isthe factorydefault.

e.Select ‘Default’usingtheUP/DOWN button, then press RIGHTtoen-
terthesubmenu. PressENTER to make thesettingreturnto thefac-
tory-set mode.

J.Menu
A DVD is divided into sections called titlesandchapters. When you
play a DVD,aroot menu ofthedisc will appearonthescreen ofyour
TV orMonitor. Thecontentsof themenu varyfrom disc todisc.Press
MENU duringplaybackto display the menu. Some DVDs onlyallow
you to select disc playbackoptionsusingtheDVD root menu.
K. Display
1. PLAYINGTIME AND REMAININGTIME
a. Duringplaybackpress the ‘DISPLAY’button to displaythe cur-
rent Title Number (1), the total Number ofTitles (2), the current
ChapterNumber (3), thetotal Numberof Chapters (4), andthe
Playing elapsedTimefor thetitle (5). Theheadingwill disappear
automaticallyafter 3 seconds ifDISPLAYbuttonis not pressed.

andthetotal numberof angles(2) displaying.Press‘ANGLE’toselect
another angle, then press again to exitandreturn tothe normal
viewing angle.The angledisplaywill disappearautomatically if the
‘ANGLE’button is not pressed again within 3seconds.
