Audix OM2 Installation guide

OM2
OVERVIEW:
Designed, assembled and tested by Audix in the USA, the OM2
is a dynamic vocal microphone used for a wide variety of live and
studio applications. The OM2 provides clear and accurate sound
reproduction, resistance to feedback and ability to handle very high
SPL (Sound Pressure Levels) without distortion.
The OM2 is designed with a tight and uniformly controlled
hypercardioid polar pattern which helps to isolate the vocals from
the rest of the instruments on stage. With a wide frequency range
of 50 Hz - 16 kHz, the OM2 employs a VLM™(Very Low Mass)
diaphragm for natural sound with exceptional transient response.
The OM2 is constructed a with slight bass proximity and a tailored
mid-range, giving it a full bodied sound on small to mid-size PA
systems. The OM2 is well balanced, comfortable to hold, durable,
and designed with high standards and tight tolerances.
The OM2 is manufactured with a precision die cast zinc alloy body,
black E-coat nish, laser etched model and serial number, steel
mesh grill, Switchcraft® or Audix XLR connector and heavy duty
nylon clip.

SPECIFICATIONS: ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS SPECIFICATIONS:
The microphone shall be of the dynamic type and the polar pattern of the microphone
shall be hypercardioid. The nominal output impedance shall be equal to 250 ohms at
1 kHz. The microphone shall have a sensitivity of 1.7 mV / Pa at 1 kHz and a sound
pressure level ≥140 dB. The microphone body shall be of zinc alloy and the grill cap
shall be steel wire mesh. The overall dimensions shall be 23 mm in diameter at the
base, 53 mm in diameter at the widest point on the grill and 176 mm in length. The
microphone shall be the Audix OM2.
OPERATION:
The OM2 is a low impedance microphone and should be plugged into the “mic level”
input of your console, mixer or recording device. Please note that your microphone
does not require phantom power and will not be effected in any way by phantom
power should it be running simultaneously while the microphone is in operation. Avoid
plugging or unplugging the microphone from the PA system unless the channel is
muted or the volume of the system turned down. Failure to do so may result in a loud
“popping” noise which could seriously damage the speakers in the PA system.
USER TIPS:
The OM2 has a very tight pick-up pattern in order to help eliminate sound from
other instruments on stage from “bleeding” into the microphone. For best results, it
is important to sing directly into the mic at close proximity (within 2 inches). When
using oor monitors, position the microphone so that it is parallel to the oor. When
using multiple microphones on a live performance stage, allow a distance of 2-3 feet
between mics to avoid phase issues.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE:
The OM2 is manufactured to exacting specs with roadworthy construction.
However, the capsule is highly sensitive and should be handled with care.
Avoid extreme temperatures and be sure to store your microphone in the
pouch provided when not in use. Moisture of any kind can adversely affect
the sound and performance of your microphone.
