1. Foreword
Avant Tecno Oy would like to thank you for your purchase of this attachment for your Avant loader. It has
been designed and manufactured based on years of experience on product development and manufacturing.
By familiarizing yourself with this manual and following the instructions, you ascertain your safety and ensure
the reliable operation and long service life of the equipment. Read the instructions carefully before starting to
use the equipment or performing maintenance.
The purpose of this manual is to help you to:
operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner
observe and prevent any hazardous situations
keep the equipment intact and ensure a long service life
With these instructions, even an inexperienced user can use the attachment and loader safely. The manual
includes important instructions for experienced AVANT operators as well. Ensure that all persons using the
loader have received proper guidance and familiarised themselves with the manual of the loader, each
attachment that are used, and all safety instructions before using the equipment. Using the equipment for
other purposes or use in any other way than described in this manual is prohibited. Keep this manual at hand
throughout the service life of the equipment. If you sell or transfer the equipment, be sure to hand over this
manual to the new owner. If the manual is lost or damaged, you can request a new one from your Avant
dealer or from the manufacturer.
In addition to the safety instructions included in this Operator's Manual, you must observe all occupational
safety regulations, local laws, and other regulations concerning the use of the equipment. Particularly the
regulations concerning the use of the equipment on public road areas must be observed. Contact your Avant
dealer for more information about local requirements before you operate the loader on road areas.
Contact your local AVANT dealer for any questions, service, spare parts or about any problems that may
occur with the operation of your machine.
This manual contains the original instructions in English. Due to continuous product development some of the
details shown in this manual may differ from your equipment. Pictures may also depict optional equipment or

2. Designed purpose of use
The AVANT Leguan 50 Access platform is an attachment that is suitable for use with AVANT compact loaders
that are shown in Table 1. The Leguan 50 is a mobile lifting platform for indoor and outdoor use and it is
designed and manufactured to be an attachment for AVANT compact loaders. The Leguan 50 is an access
platform intended to lift persons and their equipment needed in work. The use of the Leguan 50 as a lifting
crane for lifting objects is prohibited.

rong, improper, or careless use of the attachment causes serious risk of severe
injuries or death.
The access platform can be used only with Avant multi purpose
loaders. Use with other type or brand of machinery is prohibited. The access platform can
be used with 400-700 series Avant loaders, when rear support legs have been installed.
During lifting operation, the access platform is supported by its own outriggers and the extra outriggers fitted
to the rear of the loader. The platform is controlled from the lifting platform, and the AVANT loader works as
the hydraulic energy supply for the platform. The stability of the platform is based on the rigid fixing of the
attachment to the loader, and because of this, the instructions concerning installation procedures must be
followed carefully. With the emergency lowering valves the platform may be lowered in case the loader engine
shuts off.
The Leguan 50 Access platform is not designed for any other use than what is specified in this manual and
must not be used for any other purposes than what is intended for.
The Leguan 50 Access platform has been designed and built according to international safety and access
platform standards. Regular maintenance tasks can be performed by the operator. More demanding
maintenance and repairing work must be left to qualified professionals. Appropriate protective equipment and
original spare parts must be used for the maintenance.
Familiarise yourself with the manual's instructions regarding service and maintenance. Please contact your
AVANT retailer if you have additional questions about the operation or maintenance of the equipment, or if
you require spare parts or maintenance services.

The loader has an important role for the safety of the access platform and stability. All loader models must be
fitted with rear support stands when using the access platform. For compatibility information with a model not
shown in table above, contact your Avant dealer.

3. Safety instructions for using the attachment
Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly
powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property
damage. Due to this, all operators must carefully familiarise themselves about correct use and the operator's
manuals of both the loader and the attachment before starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you
have not completely familiarised yourself with its operation and the related hazards.
DANGER
Misuse, careless use, or using an attachmen
t that is in poor condition may
cause risk of serious injuries.
Familiarise yourself with the controls of the loader,
correct coupling procedure, and the correct way to operate the attachment at a safe
area. Study especially how to stop the equipment in a
safe manner. Read all safety
precautions carefully.
To ensure the safety of the access platform, the manufacturer has performed satisfactorily the static stability
tests according to section 6.1.4.2.1 in standard EN 280+A2 and the dynamic overload testing according to the
standard’s section 6.1.4.3.
Regardless of the safe design of the equipment, misuse, the lack of maintenance, or careless use may cause
serious personal injury or property damage. Due to this, you should carefully familiarise yourself with the
manuals of both the loader and the attachment before starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you
have not familiarised yourself with its operation and the hazards related to lifting of persons.
When using person-lifting equipment at work, additional safety procedures may be mandatory according to
local regulations. Such requirements may include, for example, forehand planning of lifting work and periodical
inspections of equipment used for lifting of persons. Local rules may also mandate a written permission from
the employer to operate the platform.
Periodic inspections
The access platform must be inspected for signs of wear, aging, fatigue, corrosion and other kinds of damage.
If the equipment is estimated to be unfit for service when inspected by a qualified a qualified expert, it must be
removed from service. Check which regulations apply at your area concerning use, maintenance, and
application of the equipment.
Always get the access platform inspected by a qualified technician if you have a reason to suspect that the
attachment may be damaged, such as in cases when, for example, the attachment has been dropped from a
height, tipped over, hit by other equipment, subjected to high temperatures, or there is visible rust, wear, or
aging.
The Leguan 50 Access platform does not require a type-approval by a notified body. However, local
regulations may mandate a periodic inspection of lifting equipment that is intended for lifting of persons.
Inspection may be required also based on other regulations concerning the use of equipment at workplace.

Read all safety instructions carefully before handling the attachment
WARNING
When attaching an attachment to the loader, ensure that the locking pins of the
loader's quick attach plate are in the
lower position and that they have locked
the attachment to the loader. Never lift or move an unlocked attachment.

This attachment is designed to be used by one operator at a time. Do not let others
near the danger area of the equipment when it is in use.

Always transport the attachment as low as possible to keep the centre of gravity low,
and keep the telescopic boom retracted during driving.
Risk of crushing - Never overload the platform. Overloading the platform can
cause serious injury or death. The
maximum permitted load for the Leguan 50
Access platform is 200 kg and the maximum allowed number of persons is 2.
Do not
overload the platform.
Risk of crushing - Never let anyone to go under the platform.
Going under the
platform can cause serious injury
or death. There are risks from crushing and falling
objects near and under the platform. Do not let others to enter the operating area or
go under the platform. The minimum safety distance is 3 meters.
Risk of tipping over - Keep the platform close to the ground while driving.
Transporting the access platform can shift the center of gravity of the loader and lead
to tipping over the loader. For the best stability always transport the equipment as low
and close to the machine as possible to keep the centre of gravity low.
Sudden movements can cause the loader to tip over -
Operate the controls of
the loader slowly and calmly.
Be careful when lifting load to high level or lifting load
from high. Avoid sudden changes in speed or direction to maintain balance o
f the
loader especially when handling heavy loads. Drive slowly and carefully especially on
inclined terrain or slippery surfaces.
Risk of tipping over - Set the supports before lifting.
Lifting the platform without
outriggers can cause serious injury or d
eath. The use of the access platform is
prohibited, if the outriggers have not been properly supported against supporting
surface.
Risk of tipping over - Never exceed the maximum inclination.
The access
platform must not be used in slopes with inclination greater than 5 degrees (9%).

When attaching the platform to a loader, make sure that the locking pins are in their
lower position and that they have locked the platform to the loader. The locking pins
must be locked manually.
All use of the platform is pro
hibited (including transport) until the quick locking plate
has been fully locked and the locking bracket has been installed.

The access platform must be checked visually before each use. If you notice any
faults or defects, do not put the equipment into s
ervice, until all faults and defects
have been repaired.
Check the access platform, its coupling, and the outriggers before use.

Check that above the access platform there are no obstacles, such as building
structures, tree branches etc. Crushing hazard!
P
ay attention to the contours of the terrain and other hazards in the operating
environment. Pay attention to any other persons and machines moving in the vicinity
as well.
The access platform may be transported only in the transport configuration
(com
pletely lowered). Transporting of persons or objects with the platform is
prohibited.

WARNING
Make sure to use only an attachment that is in good condition. Do not modify the
attachment in a manner that would affect its safety. Drilling holes or welding hoo
ks or
other objects on the attachment is prohibited.

It is prohibited to climb on the platform or descend from the platform while it is in
other position than completely lowered.
Do not use ladders or any other equipment to extend the reach of the platform
. Also,
avoid reaching out over the sides of the platform due to risk of falling.

Increasing the wind area of the equipment by attaching boards, or other material that
may act as a sail and increase the risk of tipping over, is not allowed.
Observe the weather conditions
Avoid working in thunder

When the wind speed exceeds 12.5 m/s, the use of the equipment must be
aborted and the platform must be lowered.
The lowest permitted operating temperature is -25 ºC
The access platform is not electrically insulated –
Do not drive near live parts or
wires. Listed below are the most common voltage levels for open wires and according
minimum safety distances:

Make sure that the surface can bear the total load. Also follow the correct tyre
pressure settings.
Shut down the loader and place the attachment to a safe position as shown in Safe
stopping procedure before any cleaning, maintenance, or adjustments.
Use the equipment only for its intended purpose. Other use may create unnecessary
safety risks, and the equipment may get damaged.
Make sure that the loader is equipped with necessary safety components, and that
they are in working
condition. Seat belt must be used. If there are specific hazards
related to the operating area, use appropriate safety equipment.
Also read the safety instructions and correct use of the loader from the operator's
manual of the loader.
WARNING
Risk of serious injuries -
Familiarise yourself with the loader controls in a safe
area.
Only persons who are 18 or older and have familiarized themselves with the
operation of the equipment may use the access platform. In addition, a specific
authorization or permit may be required to operate the platform.

WARNING
Risk of crushing -
Never allow anyone to get under a
lifted attachment or loader boom.
Keep in mind that the
loader boom can be lowered or tilted even if the engine has
been shut down (crush
ing hazard). The loader is not intended
to be left to keep a load elevated for longer periods. Always
lower the attachment to a safe position before leaving the
driver's seat.
3.1 Personal protective equipment
Remember to wear proper personal protective equipment:

The noise level at the driver's seat may exceed 85 dB(A) depending on loader
model and operating cycle. Extended exposure to loud noise can cause
hearing impairment. Wear hearing protection while working with the loader.
Wear protective gloves.
Wear safety boots whenever working with the loader.
Wear safety glasses e.g. when handling hydraulic components.
3.2 Safe shutdown procedure
Safe stopping of the attachment, before going near the attachment:
WARNING
Always stop the attachment
following safe stopping procedure before leaving
the driver's seat.
Safe stopping procedure prevents all unintentional movements of
the attachment. Note that the loader boom can move down even if the engine of the
loader is turned off. Safe stopping procedure:
Lower the boom and the attachment on the ground.
Shut down the loader engine and lock the parking brake.

Release residual pressure from the hydraulic system; move all hydraulic control
levers to their extreme positions a couple of times.
Prevent starting of the machine, remove ignition key.
Always fully lower the platform and place it firmly on the ground before leaving the
machine.

5. Attaching the attachment
The Leguan 50 Access platform is ready to use as delivered. Couple the attachment and its hydraulic hoses to
the loader as instructed in this chapter. Follow also the instructions given in the operator’s manual of the
loader.
5.1 Attaching the access platform to the loader
WARNING
Crushing risk - Make sure that an unlocked att
achment will not move or fall over.
The centre of gravity of the access platform is at fairly high point, so the tilting of the
platform increases the risk of tipping over. Do not use the automatic locking of the locking
pins when attaching the access plat
form. Lower the platform on the ground and release
the locking pins manually. Never move or raise an attachment that has not been locked.
Attaching the attachment to the loader is quick and easy, but it must be done carefully. The attachment is
mounted to the loader boom by using the quick coupling plate on the loader boom and the counterpart on the
attachment.
If the attachment is not locked to the loader, it may fall from the loader and cause a hazardous situation.
Never drive with the loader and never lift the loader boom if the attachment has not been fully locked. To
prevent hazardous situations, always follow the coupling procedure shown below. Also remember the safety
instructions shown in this manual.
WARNING
Crushing risk - Make sure that an unlocked attachment will not move or fall over.
Do not stay in the area between the attachment and the loader. Mount the attachment
only on level surface.
Never move or lift an attachment that has not been locked.
Avant quick coupling system:
Step 1:

Lift the locking pins of the quick coupling plate of the loader up, and turn them
backwards into the slot, so that they are locked in the upper position.

If your loader is equipped with a hydraulic attachment locking system, see
additional instructions
about the use of the locking system from the operator's
manual of the loader.

Make sure that the hydraulic hoses are positioned so that they will not get in
between the coupling plate of the loader and the attachment, and that they will
not get squeezed or chafed against sharp edges.
Step 2:
Turn the quick attach plate hydraulically to an obliquely forward position.

Drive the loader onto the attachment. If your loader is equipped with a
telescopic boom, you can utilise this.
Align the upper pins of th
e loader’s quick coupling plate so that they are under
the corresponding brackets of the attachment.

Step 3:
Lift the boom slightly –
pull the boom control lever backward to lift the
attachment just off the ground.
Turn the boom control lever left to
turn the bottom section of the quick coupling
plate of the loader onto the attachment.
Lock the locking pins manually or lock the hydraulic locking.
Always check the locking of both locking pins.
WARNING
Risk of crushing - Avoid tipping over the attachment.
Excessive tilting or lifting of an
unlocked attachment increases the risk of tipping the attachment over. Do not use the
automatic locking of the locking pins when the attachment is lifted more than one meter
from the ground. If the locking pins
do not return to the normal position when tilting, do
not tilt or raise the attachment any more. Lower the attachment on the ground and
secure the locking manually.
WARNING
Risk of falling objects -
Prevent dropping of
attachment.
An attachment that has not been completely locked to the
loader may fall on the boom or towards the operator, or
fall under the loader during driving, causing loss of
control of the loader. Never move or lift an attachment
that has not been locked. Before moving or lifting the
attachment, make sure that the locking pins are in the
lower position and come through the fasteners on the
attachment on both sides.
WARNING
Make sure the loader is compatible with the attachment.
Stability of the loader,
possible overload
of the attachment, and compatibility of loader control systems must be
ensured in addition to mechanical compatibility of the attachment. If you use the
attachment with a loader that is not fit to be used with the attachment model you have,
risks include t
ipping over, damage to attachment due to overload, and risks related to
uncontrolled motion of attachment and its parts. If your loader is not listed in Table 1 on
page , ask your Avant dealer before using this attachment.

5.2 Fit rear outriggers to the loader
With the Leguan 50 Acces platform, an outrigger set
is provided, which are to be installed to the loader.
The rear outriggers increase the stability of the
attachment and prevent tipping over in case of a tire
burst.
The rear outriggers must be
mounted to the loader
rear frame, as shown in adjacent figure. Most loader
models have prefabricated holes for the outriggers.
The additional side counterweights can not be used
with the access platform.
The rear outriggers should be adjusted to touch the
ground during lifting.
5.3 Lift parking support
Lift the loader slightly off the ground and lift the parking stand
under the platform to its upper position.
Under the platform there is a parking stand,
which must be lifted before transporting or
using the equipment. Lift the stand after the
platform is completely attached an locked to
the loader. If the parking support is not
lifted, it may get damaged

5.4 Fit the supporting bracket and the outriggers
To set the top link the outriggers must be set first. Fit the supporting bracket between the access platform and
the bracket on the loader boom after the quick coupling plate has been locked, and after the outriggers have
been set.
The purpose of the supporting bracket (also called the top link) is to lock the access platform to upright
position, secure the correct position, and to stabilise the platform-loader combination.
The access platform is adjusted to upright position with the supporting bracket, so the final adjustment must
be made at the intended working site.
WARNING
Tipping over hazard - Incorrectly attached attachment may tip over.
The use of the
access platform without the supporting bracket is strictly prohibited. The access platform
may tilt if the supporting bracket is not locked in place.
5.4.1 Adjust platform to level position and set outriggers
Setting the outriggers
1.
Lift the access platform slightly off the
ground.
2.
Adjust the outriggers (1) to a low position by
moving the locking pin (4) and lower the
attachment to lightly touch the surface.
3.
Remember to lock the outriggers with the
cotter pins (5).

5.4.2 Set the top link
Fitting the top link
1.
Make sure outriggers are set correctly.
2.
Level the access platform by tilting the loader
front plate. Check the levelness from the level
indicator (2).
3.
Adjust the supporting bracket (3) to the right
length by turning its centre section. Mount the
bracket to the loader with its pins and place the
cotter pins in place.
Note that the telescopic boom of the loader must be
completely retracted,
otherwise it is not possible to
mount the supporting bracket. The outriggers must be
set to their lowest position as well.
The purpose of the bracket shown in the adjacent
figure is to prevent tipping of the access platform
when it is tilted towards the loader.
The bracket shown in the adjacent figure prevents the
mounting of the platform correctly, if the telescopic
boom is extended or if the outriggers are not in level
with the loader.
5.5 Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic hoses
On Avant loaders the hydraulic hoses are connected using the multi connector system. If you have an older
model Avant 300-700 series loader with the conventional quick couplers, and you want to change to the multi
connector system, contact your Avant dealer or service point for instructions or installation services.

lever of the auxiliary hydraulics con
trol lever is locked on or if the system is
pressurized.
Connecting or disconnecting the hydraulic couplings while the system is
pressurized may lead to unintended movements of the attachment, or ejection of high-
pressure fluid, which can cause serious inj
uries or burns. Follow safe stopping procedure
before disconnecting hydraulics.
