1. Foreword
Avant Tecno Oy and Sami AS would like to thank you for your purchase of this attachment for your Avant
loader. The attachment has been designed and manufactured on the basis of years of product development
and experience. By familiarising yourself with this manual and following the instructions, you ascertain your
safety and ensure the reliable operation and long service life of the equipment. Read the instructions
carefully before starting to use the equipment or performing maintenance.
The purpose of this manual is to help you to:
■operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner
■observe and prevent any hazardous situations
■keep the equipment intact and ensure a long service life
The following warning symbols are used throughout this manual to indicate factors that must be taken into
account to reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to property:

Failure to observe the instructions accompanying the symbol can lead to
equipment breakdown or other property damage.
With these instructions, even an inexperienced user can use the attachment and loader safely. The manual
includes important instructions for experienced AVANT operators as well. Ensure that all persons using the
loader have received proper guidance and familiarised themselves with the manual of the loader and
attachment and all safety instructions before using the equipment. Other use of the equipment than
described in this manual is prohibited. Keep this manual at hand throughout the service life of the equipment.
If the manual is lost or damaged, you can request a new one from the retailer or manufacturer. If you sell or
transfer the equipment, be sure to hand over this manual to the new owner. Due to continuous product
development, some of the details in this manual may differ from your equipment. We reserve the right to
change the contents of the manual without notification. Original instructions.
In addition to the safety instructions included in this manual, you must observe all occupational safety
regulations, local laws and other regulations concerning the use of the equipment. Especially the regulations
governing the use of the equipment on public road areas and construction sites must be observed.

2. Designed purpose of use
This hydraulically operated drum type concrete mixer is an attachment intended to be used with AVANT 300-
700 series multi purpose loaders. The concrete mixer is an essential attachment for mixing and transporting
concrete, mortar, plaster or similar material even at difficult locations. Pouring concrete to desired location is
possible by simply tilting the drum with the loader boom. The drum type concrete mixer is an ideal
attachment for concrete mixing at locations where there is no electricity available. When larger volume of
concrete is needed, the Avant concrete mixing bucket is recommended.
Operating a rotating concrete mixer includes inherent hazards that can be fully avoided only by using the
equipment carefully and in correct way. Filling the mixer and transporting or lifting a filled mixer are tasks that
require special attention. The attachment is intended for operators who have learned the safe operation of
the loader and the attachment, and are able to notice the risks arising from using the equipment and
conditions of operating area. The attachment is set to correct height and angle while sitting in the driver’s
seat of the loader, and it is also started from the driver’s seat. Driving speed must be adjusted according to
operating and terrain conditions. Unintended moving of the loader must be prevented using suitable blocks
as needed in addition to the parking brake of the loader. Using the attachment in other ways or for other
purposes than mixing, transporting, and pouring concrete or similar materials while controlling the equipment
from the driver’s seat of the loader is prohibited.
The attachment has been designed to require as little maintenance as possible. The operator can perform
regular maintenance tasks, but certain more demanding tasks, such as service or replacement of the
hydraulic components, must be left to qualified professionals. Appropriate protective equipment and clothing
must be worn when operating or performing maintenance. Spare parts must be similar to original
specifications, which can be ensured by using only original Avant spare parts.
Read the maintenance and servicing instructions in this manual. Please contact your AVANT retailer if you
have any additional questions about the operation or maintenance of the equipment or if you require spare
parts or maintenance services.
3. Safety instructions for the concrete mixer
Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly
powerful, and improper or careless use may cause serious personal injury or property damage. Due to this,
you should carefully familiarise yourself with the manuals of both the loader and the attachment before
starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you have not familiarised yourself with its operation and the
related hazards.
Misuse or careless use, or using an attachment that is in bad condition, may use
serious injuries. Familiarise yourself with the controls of the loader and coupling of the
attachment at a safe area, especially how to stop the equipment in a safe manner.
Read the following safety precautions carefully.

Read the safety instructions carefully before handling the attachment
•When attaching the attachment to the loader, ensure that the locking pins of the
loader's quick attach plate are in the lower position and that they have locked the
attachment to the loader.
•The mixer is intended to be used by one adult operator at a time. Prevent others from
entering the work area or getting near the loader when in use. Pay attention to the
surroundings and other persons and machines moving in the vicinity. Always make sure
that it is safe to move with the machine. Always keep a minimum safety distance of at
least one metre from other persons. When driving, pay attention to the contours of the
terrain and, for example, holes or loose rocks, as well as other hazards, such as
branches and trees reaching the driver's area.
•Keep hands away from moving parts. Never reach into the mixer drum if the drum can
start by accident. Make sure that, for example, loose clothing can’t get entangled with
the rotating mixer.
•Note the recommended and maximum operating speeds. Do not rotate the mixer at
higher than recommended speed, the material will not get mixed, and the mixer can
throw material out, or it may get damaged.
•Always transport the mixer as low and close to the machine as possible to keep the
centre of gravity low and for the best stability of the loader. Be sure to keep the mixer
tilted slightly forward to prevent material from spilling from the mixer drum. Do not tilt
the mixer too far up to prevent spilling concrete on the loader boom or near the driver’s
area.
•Never leave the driver’s seat when the attachment is lifted to higher than one metre
from the ground. Always lower the attachment close the ground before leaving the
driver’s seat. Make sure that the attachment is properly supported for maintenance,
cleaning, and inspections. Going under a raised attachment or boom is dangerous; the
boom may lower unexpectedly due to loss of stability, equipment failure, or other
persons using the controls of the loader.
•Operate the controls of the loader only when sitting on the driver’s seat. Wrong control
movements creates crushing hazard to any person outside the loader.
•Make sure that you use only an attachment that is in proper working condition. Perform
daily inspections and read the instructions on service and maintenance. Never use the
attachment if the hydraulic systems of the attachment and the loader are not completely
in order. Do not use the mixer if a large amount of dried concrete has got stuck in the
drum.
•Before starting the concrete mixer, make sure that there are no foreign objects in the
drum that could be ejected from the attachment or that could damage the mixer.
•When taking the concrete mixer off from the loader, ensure that it is secured against
accidental movement. To prevent the attachment from tipping over, lower it on even
surface and use blocks of wood as necessary.
•Do not modify the structure of the attachment in a manner that would affect its safety.
Use the concrete mixer for its intended use only. Check the mixing tools and the inside
of the drum regularly. Read the instructions on maintenance and servicing and only use
original spare parts.
•Ensure that the loader is equipped with necessary safety equipment, and that they are
in working condition. Seat belt must be used when driving the loader. If there are
specific hazards at the operating area, such as dust or hazard of falling objects, take
necessary steps to protect from those.
•Also read the safety instructions shown in the operator’s manual of the loader.

Beware of hazards of entanglement and crushing between moving components
whenever using the concrete mixer. Always stop the attachment by turning the
auxiliary hydraulics control lever to its neutral position and before reaching into the
mixing drum, shut down the loader engine first and release the residual pressure of
the hydraulic system. Note that the loader boom moves down and may be tilted even
if the engine has been stopped. Never go under a raised boom or any component of
the attachment.
Note the effects of heavy loads to the handling
charasteristics of the loaders, especially when
working with lighter 300-500 –series loaders.
When driving, keep the telescopic boom retracted
and keep the load close to the ground. Use
additional counterweights as needed. Read the
operator’s manual of the loader.
When working at construction sites, in many cases
a falling objects protective structure (FOPS) must
be mounted on the loader. Find out about other
necessary safety equipment at specific operating
area.
Remember to wear proper protective clothing:
Never wear loose clothing, long scarves, jewellery or other items that might become
entangled in rotating parts of the concrete mixer. If needed, wear a hat to prevent long
hair from coming into contact with the rotating parts.
•The noise level at the driver's seat may exceed 85 dB(A). Wear hearing protection while
working with the loader.
•The use of safety boots is recommended while working with the loader.
•Wear protective gloves when handling hydraulic hoses and safety goggles when
handling hydraulic components.
•Wear a dust mask when handling cement or operating in dusty conditions.

4.1. Safety labels
Listed below are the markings and labels fastened to the attachment. The labels must be visible on the
equipment. Replace any missing or unclear labels with new ones. New labels are available from your retailer
or from service contractors.
The warning labels contain important safety information and they help to identify and
remember hazards related to the equipment. Replace damaged or missing warning
labels with new ones.

5. Assem ly of the concrete mixer
The attachment is ready for use as delivered. Attach the attachment and its hydraulic hoses to the loader as
instructed below.
5.1. Coupling the attachment to the loader
Coupling the attachment to the loader is quick and easy, but it must be done carefully. The attachment is
fixed to the loader boom by using the quick attach plate and the counterpart on the attachment. If the
attachment is not locked to the loader, it may detach from the loader and cause hazardous situations. In the
worst case, the attachment may slide onto the driver along a raised boom. For this reason, the attachment
must not be raised over one metre under any circumstance if it has not been locked. To prevent hazardous
situations, always follow the attachment coupling instructions provided in the following pages. Also
remember the safety instructions shown in Chapter 3 and additional information shown in the operator’s
manual of the loader. The attachment is mounted to the loader as follows:
Step 1:
•Lift the quick attach plate locking pins up and turn them backwards into
the slot so that they are locked in the upper position.
•If your loader is equipped with a hydraulic attachment locking system,
see additional instructions about the use of the locking system from the
relevant manuals.
•Ensure that the hydraulic hoses are not in the way during installation.
Step 2:
•Turn the quick attach plate hydraulically to an obliquely forward position.
•Drive the loader onto the attachment. If your loader is equipped with a
telescopic boom, you can utilise this.
Step 3:
•Turn the boom control lever left to turn the bottom section of the quick
attach plate onto the attachment.
•Lift the boom slightly – pull the boom control lever backward to raise the
attachment off the ground.
•Tilt the attachment carefully up at low level to lock the pins or lock them
manually, or lock the hydraulic locking.
•Always check that the attachment is securely locked.

An attachment that has not been completely
locked to the loader may fall on the boom or
operator, or under the loader during driving, and
cause serious injuries. Before moving or lifting the
attachment, make sure that the locking pins are in
the lower position and come through the fasteners
on both sides. Never move or lift an attachment
that has not been locked.
Do not use the automatic locking of the locking pins at a height of over one metre.
If the locking pins do not return to the normal position when the front plate is tilted, do
not lift the attachment more. Lower the attachment on the ground and secure the
locking manually.
5.2. Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic couplings
The default connector for hydraulic couplings is the multiconnector system. If you want to change the type of
the hydraulic couplings of the attachment or the loader, contact your Avant dealer or service point for
instructions or installation services.
Never connect or disconnect quick couplings or handle other hydraulic components
while the control lever of the auxiliary hydraulics control lever is locked on or if the
system is pressurized. Connecting or disconnecting the hydraulic couplings while the
system is pressurized may lead to unintended movements of the attachment, or
ejection of high-pressure fluid, which can cause serious injuries or burns.
Keep the couplings as clean as possible; use the protective caps on both the attachment and the loader.
Dirt, ice, etc. may make using the fittings significantly more difficult. Never leave the hoses hanging on the
ground; place the multiconnector onto its holder.
Connecting and disconnecting the multiconnector system:
Align the pins of the attachment connector with corresponding
holes of the loader connector. The multiconnector will not connect
if the attachment connector is upside down. Connect and lock the
multiconnector by turning the lever towards the loader.
The lever should move easily all the way to its locking position. If
the lever does not slide smoothly, check the alignment and position
of the connector and clean the connectors. Also shut down the
loader and release the residual hydraulic pressure.
To disconnect the multiconnector system, turn off the auxiliary
hydraulics of the loader, and unlock the multiconnector. To unlock,
push the knob on the side of the connector, and turn the lever to
disconnect.

Conventional quick couplings (alternative couplings for some loader models):
Before connecting or disconnecting the standard quick couplings, the residual pressure must be released as
shown above. If the pressure is not released, the fittings will not connect easily.
To connect and disconnect the standard couplings, move the collar at the
end of the female fitting. The hoses should be connected so that the
coupling equipped with a coloured cap is connected to the corresponding
coupling of the loader. Note that the protective caps on the loader and the
attachment can be fastened to each other during operation to reduce the
accumulation of dirt. When disconnecting the standard quick couplings a
small amount of oil may drip from the couplings. Wear protective gloves and
have some cloth at hand to keep the equipment clean.
Before disconnecting conventional quick couplings shut down the loader and move the auxiliary hydraulics
control lever of the loader to its extreme positions to release the residual pressure of the hydraulic system.
Releasing residual hydraulic pressure:
In case residual pressure is left in the hydraulic system, it is often possible to disconnect the hydraulic
couplings, but it may be difficult to connect them the next time. If any of the couplings will not connect, the
residual pressure must be released by turning the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader, when the
engine is turned off.
5.3. Cleaning, uncoupling and storage
Clean the concrete mixer immediately after use, since this makes cleaning easier. Unload any remaining
material from the mixer to a suitable place, any material left in the drum will dry and build up even more
material. Use a water hose to clean the drum. Small fragmented gravel may also be used for cleaning the
drum, rotate with plenty of water for a couple of minutes and empty the drum to a suitable location. You may
also use a pressure washer and mild detergent, but generally spraying inside the drum at high pressure
should be avoided. Do not use strong solvents or spray directly at the hydraulic components or at the labels
on the attachment either.
After thorough cleaning of the mixer, transport it to a level surface where the mixer cannot move or tip over
by accident. Do not store the attachment directly against the ground; place it on blocks of wood or on a
pallet, for example. Disconnect the hydraulic couplings, unlock the locking pins and operate the loader boom
to uncouple the attachment. Secure the mixer manually against accidental movements.
Store the attachment so that water will not stay in the mixer and prevent water form getting in the mixer by
storing the attachment upside down, for example. Before longer storage periods touch up the paint where
needed and oil the teeth ring to prevent rust damage. See maintenance instructions in Chapter 7.

6. Instructions for use
Check the attachment and the operating environment once more before starting to work. Quick inspection of
the equipment and the operating area before use are parts of ensuring safety and the best performance of
the equipment.
Keep a safe distance to the mixer when it is in
operation and stay back if other person operates
the controls of the loader. Be careful not to reach
into the concrete mixer drum by any means.
Beware of the geared rim and the hydraulic motor
on the side of the drum, which create
entanglement hazards. Shut down the loader
engine if reaching into the drum is necessary.
.1. Checks before use
■Check the general condition of the attachment and the loader, and check for possible hydraulic oil
leaks. The attachment must not be used, if there is a fault in the hydraulic system of the loader or
the attachment. Refer to Chapter 7 for maintenance instructions.
■Check that the concrete mixer is intact and remove any material left in the mixing drum before
starting the mixer. Clean also the drive gear rim for smooth operation. Check that the drum can
rotate freely, and that there is no foreign material coiled around the drum or stuck on the gear rim.
■Choose a level working site, which can carry the load of the equipment when fully loaded. The
operating area must be sufficiently flat and it should be cleared from any obstacles that could
cause a tripping hazard for the operators. Operate the concrete mixer only in daylight or in good
artificial light and in well-ventilated areas, do not operate any type of loader indoors.
■Transport the mixer carefully especially on uneven areas and note the effect of weight at the front
to the stability of the loader.
■Ensure that the loader and the attachment are used in a safe and intended manner. Do not allow
children to operate the equipment.
■Remember correct working methods and avoid leaving the driver’s seat unnecessarily.
Clean the loader oil cooler core regularly; refer to the loader manual for more instructions.
Overheating of the oil decreases the power and affects the service life of the hydraulic
components of both the attachment and the loader.
.2. Operating the mixer
Avoid crushing hazard by ensuring that the
parking brake of the loader is engaged. Use the
equipment only on level surfaces and make sure
that the equipment will stay still regardless of the
possible movements caused by the rotating mixer.
Use additional blocks as necessary.

Start the mixer only when it is ready to be used. Do not leave the equipment running
unattended. Do not go near the equipment when another person operates the controls
of the loader.
The concrete mixer is started by locking on the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader. Correct
rotating direction is clockwise when seen from front of the mixer.
Keep the telescopic boom retracted for the best stability during operation. Rotate the concrete mixer slowly
during filling. The correct final rotating speed for mixing varies depending of the mixed material. As a rule,
the rotating speed should never exceed about one revolution per second. Empty the drum by tilting it with the
loader boom while rotating the mixer slowly simultaneously. During emptying, the rotating direction of the
mixer can be varied as needed.
Always use low loader engine rpm and only the 1-pump setting of the auxiliary
hydraulics. Keep the rotating speed of the mixer low, as shown in technical
specifications. The mixer will not mix material efficiently, and the hydraulic motor of
the mixer may get damaged or material may be thrown from the mixer if it is rotated
too fast.
To avoid material from getting stuck, do not fill the mixer unless it is rotated
simultaneously. Also, do not throw material in, but instead pour material in controlled
way. Do not stop filled mixer.
Never go under a raised boom or concrete mixer component. Note that the loader
boom can move even if the engine has been stopped.
Never perform any adjustments, maintenance or cleaning of the equipment if the
mixer can start by accident. Shut down the loader engine first.
.3. Slope operation and uneven terrain
Operating on inclined terrain and slopes requires extra caution. Watch for holes, bumps, rocks and other
possible obstacles, that may be poorly visible. Uneven terrain may tip over the loader. Use low speed on
slopes and do not make sudden changes in speed or direction. Try to drive straight up or down a hill, not
across, to avoid excessive side tilting. Keep the articulation of the loader frame in as straight position as
possible, and keep load close to the ground and the loader. Be careful when operating near ditches or
embankments as the machine could slide or turn over if an edge caves in. Do not lift the attachment high on
inclined terrain.

7. Maintenance and servicing
The attachment has been designed to be as maintenance free as possible. The most important factor in
continuous maintenance of the concrete mixer is thorough and prompt cleaning of the equipment after each
use. Maintenance includes monitoring the condition of the mixing tools as well as regular lubrication of the
equipment.
Ensure that the concrete mixer is properly supported during all cleaning, inspection
and maintenance procedures. Lower the attachment on even ground and keep it
attached on the loader. All maintenance procedures except rinsing and basic cleaning
of the drum must be performed while the loader engine is shut down and the hydraulic
hoses are disconnected.
7.1. Inspecting hydraulic components
Check the condition of the hydraulic hoses and components when the engine has been turned off and the
pressure has been released. Repair all leaks immediately after detecting them; a small leak can quickly grow
into a big one. Do not use the equipment, if you have discovered a leak in the hydraulic system of the
attachment or the loader. Leaking hydraulic fluid may penetrate skin and cause serious injuries. Seek
medical attention immediately in case hydraulic fluid penetrates the skin. Hydraulic fluid is also harmful to the
environment. Operate only with hydraulic oil that is accepted for use in Avant loaders.
Never handle hydraulic components when
the hydraulic system is pressurized, since a
fitting may break or become loose and the
released oil may cause serious injuries. Do
not use the equipment, if you have
discovered a fault in the hydraulic system.
Check hoses visually for cracks or abrasions. Monitor the wearing of the hoses and discontinue use, if the
surface layer of any hose has worn off. The hoses have limited service life, which is marked on the hoses.
After the date marked on the hoses, they should be replaced with new ones. If there are signs of leaks, to
check a component, hold up a piece of cardboard in the area where a leak is suspected. Finding any of
these faults means that the hydraulic hose or component must be replaced. Leave the repair work to
professional service technicians, if you don’t have enough knowledge and experience about hydraulic
assemblies and how to perform the repairing safely.
7.2. Maintenance
Touch up the paint where needed, or oil unpainted metal parts lightly to prevent rust damage. There are no
specific lubricating points on the mixer. The gear rim should be lubricated with suitable lubricant regularly to
prevent rusting and for smooth operation and less noise. The bearings of the mixer are maintenance free.
Scrape any remaining material from the drum to prevent the accumulation of material. Do not hit the drum
with any means, the drum will get damaged.

8. Warranty terms
Avant Tecno Oy grants a warranty of one year (12 months) for the attachment from the date of purchase.
The warranty covers repair costs as follows:
•Work costs are covered, if the repair is not performed at the factory.
•The factory replaces any defective components or consumables.
The factory may reimburse the price of components purchased by the customer in special cases that have been agreed in
advance.
The warranty does not cover:
•Normal maintenance work, such as the replacement of blades or the belts, or parts and consumables required for it.
•Damages caused by unusual operating conditions or ways of use, negligence, structural changes made without the
consent of Avant Tecno Oy, use of non-original parts or lack of maintenance.
•Consequences of a defect, such as interruption of work or other possible additional damages.
•Travel and/or freight costs caused by the repair.
