Avaya grants You a license within the scope of the license types 98
described below, with the exception of Heritage Nortel Software, 99
for which the scope of the license is detailed below. Where the 100
order documentation does not expressly identify a license type, 101
the applicable license will be a Designated System License as 102
set forth below in the Designated System(s) License (DS) section 103
as applicable. The applicable number of licenses and units of 104
capacity for which the license is granted will be one (1), unless a 105
different number of licenses or units of capacity is specified in the 106
documentation or other materials available to You. “Software” means 107
computer programs in object code, provided by Avaya or an Avaya 108
Channel Partner, whether as stand-alone products, pre-installed on 109
hardware products, and any upgrades, updates, patches, bug fixes, 110
or modified versions thereto. “Designated Processor” means a single 111
stand-alone computing device. “Server” means a set of Designated 112
Processors that hosts (physically or virtually) a software application 113
to be accessed by multiple users. “Instance” means a single copy 114
of the Software executing at a particular time: (i) on one physical 115
machine; or (ii) on one deployed software virtual machine (“VM”) or 116
similar deployment.117
License types118
Designated System(s) License (DS). End User may install and use 119
each copy or an Instance of the Software only: 1) on a number 120
of Designated Processors up to the number indicated in the order; 121
or 2) up to the number of Instances of the Software as indicated 122
in the order, Documentation, or as authorized by Avaya in writing. 123
Avaya may require the Designated Processor(s) to be identified in 124
the order by type, serial number, feature key, Instance, location or 125
other specific designation, or to be provided by End User to Avaya 126
through electronic means established by Avaya specifically for this 127
purpose.128
Shrinkwrap License (SR). End User may install and use the Software 129
in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable 130
license agreements, such as “shrinkwrap” or “clickthrough” license 131
accompanying or applicable to the Software (“Shrinkwrap License”) 132
as indicated in the order, Documentation, or as authorized by Avaya 133
in writing.134
Heritage Nortel Software135
“Heritage Nortel Software” means the software that was acquired 136
by Avaya as part of its purchase of the Nortel Enterprise Solutions 137
Business in December 2009. The Heritage Nortel Software is the 138
software contained within the list of Heritage Nortel Products located 139
at https://support.avaya.com/LicenseInfo under the link “Heritage 140
Nortel Products” or such successor site as designated by Avaya. 141
For Heritage Nortel Software, Avaya grants Customer a license to 142
use Heritage Nortel Software provided hereunder solely to the extent 143
of the authorized activation or authorized usage level, solely for the 144
purpose specified in the Documentation, and solely as embedded 145
in, for execution on, or for communication with Avaya equipment. 146

Charges for Heritage Nortel Software may be based on extent of 1
activation or use authorized as specified in an order or invoice.2

Virtualization18
The following applies if the product is deployed on a virtual machine. 19
Each product has its own ordering code and license types. Unless 20
otherwise stated, each Instance of a product must be separately 21
licensed and ordered. For example, if the end user customer or 22
Avaya Channel Partner would like to install two Instances of the 23
same type of products, then two products of that type must be 24
ordered.25
Third Party Components26
“Third Party Components” mean certain software programs or 27
portions thereof included in the Software or Hosted Service may 28
contain software (including open source software) distributed under 29
third party agreements (“Third Party Components”), which contain 30
terms regarding the rights to use certain portions of the Software 31
(“Third Party Terms”). As required, information regarding distributed 32
Linux OS source code (for those products that have distributed Linux 33
OS source code) and identifying the copyright holders of the Third 34
Party Components and the Third Party Terms that apply is available 35
in the products, Documentation or on Avaya’s website at: https://36
support.avaya.com/Copyright or such successor site as designated 37
by Avaya. The open source software license terms provided as 38
Third Party Terms are consistent with the license rights granted in 39
these Software License Terms, and may contain additional rights 40
benefiting You, such as modification and distribution of the open 41
source software. The Third Party Terms shall take precedence over 42
these Software License Terms, solely with respect to the applicable 43
Third Party Components to the extent that these Software License 44
Terms impose greater restrictions on You than the applicable Third 45
Party Terms.46

Phone overview2
Avaya J189 IP Phone is a SIP-based phone for business communications. The phone has two 3
color displays and supports 96 line buttons. The primary display of the phone provides 96 buttons 4
that you can access by scrolling or paging using the Navigation Cluster. Optionally, the phone 5
supports up to two Avaya J100 Expansion Modules. The Secondary screen is the first effective 6
button module. The phone supports up to five call appearances with two lines of call display.7

2 Phone display Displays two areas:
1. Top Bar: It is always visible, and displays communication
status, time and date, and device status.
2. Application area displays the following:
• Application header: It displays the context specific application
title, and one or more subtitles. Depending on the appearance
type and the call state, the header displays details of the call.
• Application content area: It displays menus, lists, pop-up
windows, images, and other application content.
• Softkey labels area: It displays labels with information about
the state of the soft key button.
3 Line keys Used to select the corresponding line or feature. Each line key
has a combination of red and green LEDs that provide call or
feature specific visual alert.
Note:
The default action depends on the application and the
context.
4 Soft keys Used to select the corresponding label of context-specific
actions.
With the Help soft key, you can view a short description of the
features available on your phone.
5 Navigation cluster Used to navigate on the phone screen.
•Up and Down arrow keys: To scroll up and down.
•Right and Left arrow keys: To move cursor in the text input
field, and to toggle values in the selection fields.
•OK button: To select the action assigned to the first soft key.
7 Voicemail Used to dial the configured voice mail number to receive a voice
message.
8 Line keys Used to select the corresponding line or feature. Each line key
has a combination of red and green LEDs that provide call or
feature specific visual alert.

9 Secondary display Provides quick access to line appearances, features, and phone
menus.

It has six lines of four-page display that provides 24 additional lines for incoming calls, outgoing 6
calls, auto-dialing, and calling features. It displays the dedicated view for keys 25-48. You can 7
switch between the pages using the left and right keys.8
