Chapter 1
Introduction
The SBC87842, a single board computer, supports Intel®AtomTM E3827 and Celeron® N2807
processors. The board delivers outstanding system performance through high-bandwidth
interfaces, multiple I/O functions for interactive applications and various embedded computing
solutions. There is one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket for single channel DDR3L 1333MHz memory
with maximum capacity up to 8GB. The board also features dual Gigabit Ethernet, one SATA,
one CompactFlashTM socket, and two USB 2.0 compliant ports to achieve the best stability and
reliability for industrial applications.

2.3 Jumper Settings
Jumper is a small component consisting of jumper clip and jumper pins. Install jumper clip on 2
jumper pins to close. And remove jumper clip from 2 jumper pins to open. The following
illustration shows how to set up jumper.
Before applying power to SBC87842, please make sure all of the jumpers are in factory default
position. Below you can find a summary table of all jumpers and onboard default settings.
Note
Once the default jumper setting needs to be changed, please do it under power-off
condition.

Put jumper clip to pin 2-3 for a few seconds then move it back to pin 1-2. Doing this
procedure can restore BIOS optimal defaults.

2.4 Connectors and LEDs
Signals go to other parts of the system through connectors. Loose or improper connection
might cause problems, please make sure all connectors are properly and firmly connected.

2.4.1 Front Panel Connector (CN1)
HDD Activity LED
This connection is linked to hard drive activity LED on the control panel. LED flashes
when HDD is being accessed. Pin 1 and 3 connect the hard disk drive to the front panel
HDD LED, pin 3 is assigned as cathode(-) and pin 1 is assigned as anode(+).
System Reset Switch
Pin 5 and 6 connect the case-mounted reset switch that reboots your computer without
turning off the power switch. It is a better way to reboot your system for a longer life of
system power supply.
Power On/Off Button
Pin 7 and 8 connect the power button on front panel to the CPU board, which allows
users to turn on or off power supply.
2.4.2 Power Input Terminal Block (CN2)
The board is equipped with a 3-pin terminal block for 12~24VDC power input.
2.4.3 SATA Power Connector (CN5)
This is a 2-pin connector for interfacing to SATA 2.5" HDD power supply.

2.4.4 Full-size PCI-Express Mini Card and mSATA Connector
(CN6)
The CN6 is a full-size PCI-Express Mini Card connector applying to either PCI-Express
or USB 2.0 with mSATA support. It also complies with PCI-Express Mini Card Spec.

2.4.5 VGA Connector (CN7)
This is a 15-pin D-Sub connector which is commonly used for VGA display. This VGA
interface configuration can be configured via software utility.
2.4.6 SIM Card Slot (CN9)
The CN9 is for inserting SIM Card. It is mainly used in 3G wireless network application.
In order to work properly, the SIM Card must be used together with 3G module which is
inserted to CN6.
2.4.7 Ethernet Port (CN10)
The board has two RJ-45 connectors. Ethernet connection can be established by
plugging one end of the Ethernet cable into this RJ-45 connector and the other end
(phone jack) to a 1000/100/10-Base-T hub.

2.4.8 COM1~COM4 Connectors (CN11~CN12)
The board comes with four standard DB-9 connectors on the rear I/O for
RS-232/422/485 interfaces. If you need these COM ports to support RS-422 or RS-485,
please refer to BIOS setting in section 4.4.
2.4.9 SMBus Connector (CN2001)
This is a 4-pin connector for SMBus interface. The SMBus (System Management Bus) is
a simple bus for the purpose of lightweight communication.
2.4.10 SATA Connector (SATA1)
This Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (Serial ATA or SATA) connector is for
high-speed SATA interface. It is a computer bus interface for connecting to devices such
as hard disk drive.

2.4.11 CompactFlash™Socket (CF1)
The board is equipped with a CompactFlashTM disk type-II socket to support an IDE
interface CompactFlashTM disk card with DMAmode supported. The socket is especially
designed to avoid incorrect installation. When installing or removing the CompactFlashTM
disk card, please make sure the system power is off.
