Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstlogin,set
upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronglyrecommendthatyou:
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.

Adjustthefocusfasterwithfocusrecallareas
Tosavethefocussettingsataspecicpan/tiltrange,addafocusrecallarea.Eachtimethecameramovesintothatareaitrecallsthe
previouslysavedfocus.It’senoughtocoverhalfofthefocusrecallareaintheliveview.
Werecommendthefocusrecallfeatureinthefollowingscenarios:
•Whenthereisalotofmanualoperationinliveview,forexamplewithajoystick.
•WherePTZpresetpositionswithmanualfocusarenotefcient,forexamplemovementswherethefocussettingchanges
continuously.
•Inlow-lightscenarios,wheretheautofocusischallengedbythelightingconditions.

•Thefocusrecalloverridesthecamera’sautofocusatthespecicpan/tiltrange.
•Apresetpositionoverridesthefocussettingsavedinthefocusrecallarea.
•Themaximumnumberoffocusrecallareasis2.
Createafocusrecallarea
1.Pan,tilt,andzoomintotheareawhereyouwouldliketohavefocus.
Aslongasthefocusrecallbuttonshowsaplus,youcanaddafocusrecallareainthatposition.
2.Adjustthefocus.

Deleteafocusrecallarea
1.Pan,tilt,andzoomintothefocusrecallareayouwanttodelete.

Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalityfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Iage>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutoaticexposure.
•Ifyouneedfullcontrolofallparameters,mostlyusefulforsceneswithlittlechangeinlighting,selectManual.
BenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconditionsusingnightmode
Yourcamerausesvisiblelighttodelivercolorimagesduringtheday.Astheavailablelightdiminishes,youcansetthecamerato
automaticallyshifttonightmode,inwhichthecamerausesbothvisiblelightandnear-infraredlighttodeliverblack-and-white
images.Sincethecamerausesmoreoftheavailablelightitcandeliverbrighter,moredetailed,images.
1.GotoSettings>Iage>Dayandnight,andmakesurethattheIRcutlterissettoAuto.
2.Todetermineatwhatlightlevelyouwantthecameratoshifttonightmode,settheDay-nightshiftprioritytoDay,
NightorNone.

Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:
•Adjustthetrade-offbetweennoiseandmotionblur.GotoSettings>Iage>ExposureandmovetheBlur-noise
trade-offslidertowardLownoise.
•Settheexposuremodetoautomatic.

Ahighmaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Toslowdowntheshutterspeed,setmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage.
Note
Whenyoureducethemaxgain,theimagecanbecomedarker.
•Setthemaxgaintoalowervalue.
•Opentheaperture.
Maximizethedetailsinanimage
Important
Ifyoumaximizethedetailsinanimage,thebitratewillprobablyincreaseandyoumightgetareducedframerate.
•GotoSettings>Iage>Captureodeandmakesuretoselectthecapturemodethathasthehighestresolution.
•GotoSettings>Strea>Generalandsetthecompressionaslowaspossible.
•GotoLiveviewsettings>VideoforatandselectMJPEGstreaming.
•GotoSettings>Strea>H.264encodingandturnoffZipstreamfunctionality.
Handlesceneswithstrongbacklight
Dynamicrangeisthedifferenceinlightlevelsinanimage.Insomecasesthedifferencebetweenthedarkestandthebrightest
areascanbesignicant.Theresultisoftenanimagewhereeitherthedarkorthebrightareasarevisible.Widedynamicrange
(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrightareasoftheimagevisible.

StabilizeashakyimagewithElectronicImageStabilization(EIS)
ElectronicImageStabilization(EIS)canbeusedinenvironmentswheretheproductismountedinanexposedlocationandsubjectto
vibrations,forexample,windorpassingtrafc.TurnonEIStogetasmootherandsteadierimagewithoutblur.
EISalsoreducesthelesizeofthecompressedimageandlowersthebitrateofthevideostream.

WhenEISisturnedontheimageiscroppedslightly,loweringthemaximumresolution.
