1. Descriptions
MC9 series and other Micron-Lub lubrication units can be used to lubricate bearings of all types,
gears, linear slides, ball screws, chains, slides, ways, and other machine elements requiring a thin
oil film for lubrication.
A solenoid operated oil shot pump, which is controlled by electrical interval timer for the MC9
lubrication unit supplies constant precise oil quantity to venturi nozzle, which generates a fine dry
fog of oil particles.
Dry fog generated by the MC9 Micron-Lub lubrication unit is transferred by low pressure air, and is
changed to wet oil by Fog-Nozzles that are installed at the points of machine element to be
lubricated.
Features of Micron-Lub Lubrication
・The best lubrication system for vertical type machine that dislikes oil leaks and unexpected oil
dripping.
・Life of machine elements will be much prolonged with purified lubricant.
・Preventing entering of coolant dust etc. with pressure air, and cooling effects of air.
・Minimized temperature rising rate minimizes heat distortion affecting the machine accuracy.
・Simultaneous operation with machine operation makes the efficiency of operation times up and
the energies save.
・Centralized lubrication system & easy maintenance. Oil replenishment without stopping the
operation of the machine is possible.

4. Operation
MC9 series Micron-Lub lubrication unit generates
extremely fine and light oil fog (called “Fog”), which is
conveyed to each lubrication part at the long distances
through a low-pressure manifold piping. Multi-part
lubrication is possible with the manifold system.
By the Fog-Nozzles, properties of the fog is changed from
dry fog to wet fog in order to form thin and clean oil film on
the lubricating part, which is desirable for good lubrication.
Too much oil supply to the lubricating part may result in
fluid friction heat generation and waste of oil.
The other way, if oil supply is not sufficient, the lubricated
part may be seized up.

5. Installation and Handling
5-1. Installations
After checking following points for the installation of
Micron-Lub lubrication unit, mount the unit firmly
with 2 mounting holes so that oil tank may become
perpendicular.
* Easy maintenance.
* Easy checking for operation condition.
* Piping length for Manifold (outlet side) becomes
short
* No liquids splash, such as coolant liquid.
* Place stabilized in temperature
* Place of little vibration
5-2. Connection of Air Preparation Equipments for Supply Air
・Pressure air supplied to the air supply port is
required to be clean and dry.
・Supply air should have air quality class of 2:6:3
or 1:6:3 of JIS B 8392-1 (ISO 8573-1);
compressed air quality classification.
・Adjust supply air pressure with a regulator, or a
filter-regulator.
・Install a stop valve and a pre-filter in upstream
side. It is useful to maintenance of equipment,
and to extension of service life of the fine
element for the oil removal filter.
・Install a stop valve and a pre-filter in upstream side even though the model with filter-regulator
with solenoid valve is used.
5-3. Drain Line
・Connect 6mm / OD flexible tubing to the fitting of bleeding on lift side of lubrication unit and lead
to drain pit.
・When the automatic drain type filter is being used for air supply side, connect a flexible tubing to
the drain port at bottom of the filter unit. Use tubing having an open end and within 1.8m of the
length. In addition, fix end of tubing firmly to avoid whip action.
5-4. Oil Drain Valve
・Attach oil drain valves (stop valve, ball valve etc.) to
the oil drain port (Rc1/8) at the bottom of oil tank
through a plastic tubing.
・Pipe plug is attached in the drain port at the time of
shipment. Remove the plug before connection of oil
drain tubing.
・At installing a tube fitting into oil drain port of the
tank, do not screw in strongly.
・A push-in type fitting is recommended, in order to
release the stress to oil tank.
・Do not use together with organic solvents, such
as alcohol, thinner, and trichlene, or in the
atmosphere of these solvents exist.
・Provide guard to protect the lubrication units
from shock. Do not throw or drop the
lubrication units.
・Do not tread on the lubrication units.

8
5-5. Manifold Piping
Manifold piping should be worked with being careful on
the following matter.
(1) Manifold piping (1/2) is required that piping of
transverse direction is performed after starting
stand-up piping (1-2m) from lubrication unit. Piping
of transverse direction should give a slope of 2/100
~5/100.
・Before starting piping work, confirm the position of
branch-out, Fog-Nozzles and etc.
・When connecting piping to the lubrication unit, take
care not to jam the seal materials and dust into
the piping.
(2) Before starting piping work, piping should be
washed in pipe cleaning water and blow air to
remove dirt and scale. Flushing by compressed air
after piping work is also necessary.
(3) Piping should have the smooth inside and should
lessen use of pipe bends or pipe fittings as much as possible.
(If the flow of air becomes turbulent flow in piping, oil quantity condensed inside piping will
increase).
(4) The main manifold piping from the Micron-Lub lubrication unit to the machine to be lubricated is
preferably made of non-corrosive 1/2 pipe for gases. A
slope of 2/100~5/100 on the main manifold should be
provided descending toward the lubrication unit, and
avoid having a down loop in the course of the manifold
piping.
(5) Branch piping that distributes fog to each lubricating
point should be obtained from upper side of the main
manifold piping. Joints for branch piping should not
project inside of the main manifold piping.
(6) Install oil drainage equipment at the lowest place of
down looped piping and at bottom of standing-up
piping. Accumulated drain would be easily expelled.
(7) Check points for Fog-Nozzles.
・Type and lubricating capacity (Nozzle size).
・Installed position and the number of Fog-Nozzles.
・A distance from the tip of Fog-Nozzle to the parts to be lubricated.
・Provision of a vent port with sufficient vent, and protective method to oil contamination of
surroundings.

9
6. Electrical Wiring
1. In case of models without electrical control circuit
・Remove cover on the body of Micron-Lub lubrication unit
after unscrewing cover-retaining screws.
Then, terminal block for electrical wiring will appear.
Connect wiring to each terminal according to electrical
control circuit.
A twin-timer or a programmable controller, which
controls interval time to activate PV 3-port solenoid
valve for actuating the pump, must be equipped by the
users.
・Connecting wiring to the pressure switch and the level
switch, and to the 3-port valve actuating pump would be
connected to the terminals from No. 3 through No. 10.
・Electrical wiring of control signal, alarming signal and etc.
will be connected to the terminals through cord-lock.
・After completion of the wiring, attach the cover firmly to
the original position.
CAUTION
・Twin timer or programmable controller should be prepared in advance separately for the
interval oil shot operation of the pump in the Micron-Lub lubrication unit. (MC9 models
with electrical control circuit are excepted)
・User side must make electrical control circuit for the Micron-Lub lubrication system.

10
2. In case of models with electrical control circuit
・In case of the lubrication models with electrical control
circuit (DC24V), connect electrical wiring for electric
supply, input for START, and alarming output to TB1
terminal of circuit board.
・Refer to page 22 for electrical wiring of MC9 models
equipped with electrical control circuit.
・Connect DC24V electric supply to TB1 terminal block.
Terminal of 1 is for +24V, and of 2 is for GND.
・Connect alternate type switch for input of START between terminal of 3 and 4.
・Terminal of 4, 5 and of 6 are prepared for output of alarming signal. These outputs are by electrical
dry contact (no electric potential).
Terminal of 6 is for com contact point.
Terminal of 4 is for alarming of oil
replenishment, and terminal of 5 is
for alarming of abnormal operation.
In case of normal operating state, the
contact points are kept closed.
Equipment associated with these
contacts should be activated with
voltage below 60V.
・In case a solenoid valve (SV1: DC24V,
max 10W) instead of the valve
integrated to Filter-Regulator has
been prepared separately, connect
the prepared solenoid valve to terminal of 3(+) and of 4(-) of TB2 terminal block.
This solenoid valve is activated simultaneously at the time when the electric power is supplied.

11
7. Handling & Adjustment
The following adjustment procedure should be taken after completion of all piping and electrical
wiring.
Note: Following procedures are mainly used for the MC9 models with D04 Filter-Regulator
integrating solenoid valve or D14 Regulator integrating solenoid valve. But, in case of the
models without supply air control equipment such as above D04 Filter-Regulator or D14
Regulator, handle the equipment equivalent to above equipment for adjustment.
7-1. Oil replenishment
・Before supplying electricity and air pressure to the
Micron-Lub lubrication unit, fill oil up to maximum oil level
of the reservoir. If the pump is actuated without lubricant
in the reservoir, the pump inhales air bubble, which
breaks feeding oil to the venturi-nozzle.
・Recommended lubricants grades are ISO VG32~68 and
should be suitable for mist lubrication. It is recommended
to use the lubricants recommended by machine
manufacturer and/or bearing maker.
・Consult to the lubricant makers or Azbil TA if it is unclear
that the lubricant is suitable for Micron-Lub lubrication.
・Do not actuate the pump on the condition that there is no lubricant in the reservoir.
・Confirm there is oil level over min. level in the reservoir.
・Do not replenish lubricant exceeding the max. oil level of reservoir.
・If overfilled, oil may splash from the bleeder tube.
・Use the lubricant that is suitable for the mist lubrication (Micron-Lub lubrication).
・Others would damage the lubricated parts.
7-2. Air supply
・Before supplying air to Micron-Lub lubrication unit, make certain that the adjustment of Regulator
section being fully released. And a stop valve, if installed in the air supply side, should be
opened.
・After this, activate solenoid valve (SOL) of the Regulator section first, and then turn the regulator
adjustment knob clockwise in order to set the operating pressure of the Micron-Lub lubrication
unit. Set operating pressure can be read on pressure gauge of the Filter-Regulator or of
Regulator.
・Operating pressure range of Micron-Lub lubrication unit is 0.15 to 0.35MPa
Note: (1) D04 Filter-Regulator with solenoid valve or D14 Regulator with solenoid valve can
adjust pressure only while the solenoid valve is being activated.
(2) Minimum operating pressure of automatic drain mechanism of D04 Filter-Regulator is
0.1MPa.
If supply pressure is under 0.1MPa, air leaks from the drain port of filter section would
happen.
7-3. Adjustment of operating pressure and manifold pressure
・Energize the solenoid valve (SOL) of D04 Filter-Regulator or of D14 Regulator in order to adjust
operating pressure and manifold pressure.
・The by-pass air adjusting screw can adjust manifold pressure higher, thus air flow amount to the
Fog-Nozzles will be increased. This will give better air cooling effects to the lubricated parts.
However as first stage by-pass air screw adjustment, manifold pressure must be set at 0.05MPa,
as the every lubricated element has each heat generative factors. Then, with checking the
temperature increment at lubrication part, increase manifold pressure gradually for the best
manifold pressure. Max. manifold pressure is 0.25MPa.

12
・In case of the application with ambient temperature under 10℃, set the manifold pressure higher
than 0.05MPa.
・After adjustment of manifold pressure, confirm there is pressure difference of more than
0.1MPa between manifold pressure and operating pressure on the lubrication unit. If the
pressure differences become smaller than 0.1MPa, increase the operating air pressure. And
re-adjust the manifold pressure.
7-4. Operation of Oil-Shot Pump and Confirming of Oil Dripping
・When electric supply to the lubrication unit is switched ON, the oil shot pump starts action by
interval timer. Then oil will be drop into sight-dome through drip tube.
・If the lubrication unit is installed to the machine newly, set the operating pressure slightly higher
than pressure intended for normal operation, after by-pass air adjusting screw closed. Then
actuate the pump about 100 times with 1 or 2 seconds interval, until oil drops can be seen
certainly.
・This is to fill lubricant into oil tube from the pump to sight-dome. And this ensures oil drippings to
the sight-dome on each action of the pump.
・MC9 units equipped with Oil Monitor are possible to confirm dripping of oil or supplying of oil by
using sensor.

13
CAUTION
・Concerning setting and adjustment of the timer;
In case of the lubrication unit without electrical control circuit, refer to the instructions
attached to the interval timer that was separately prepared by the user.
・Timer for interval activation of pump is not equipped to the standard MC9 lubrication
unit.
7-5. Method of Setting of Oil-Shot Frequency
・Timer frequency rate must be set at same rate with the oil drips per minute. However in case the
first operations after installation, or after maintenance, supply more oil than required for usual
lubrication. And the machine should be started from slower speed than the normal operation
speed.
・Setting of the interval operation timer should be below 20 times per minute in case of normal
lubrication operation.
In case of lubrication units with electrical
control circuit
・Oil shots rate (shots/min) can be set by
the shot interval from
combination of ON position of DIP
Switch on the control circuit board.
・Use following DIP Switch combination
table for setting of oil shot quantities,
that can be set from oil shot interval
based on DIP Switch combination.

14
Slide the switch of SWx marked ◎
toward ON side in the table in right
according to required oil shot quantities.
Switch of SWx marked ×remains at
OFF position.
Caution: Oil shot rate should be set
within range of 1shot/ 3min to 20
shots/min.
Note 1: Factory set shot interval at
shipment is 20 shots/min for
MCD lubrication units equipped
with electrical control circuit.
Note 2: There is a error of 2% maximum
to a setting.
7-6. OPERATION of MC9 units with Electrical Control Circuit
Operations of MC9 unit have a little difference by the units with or without oil drip monitor, or oil
feed monitor. Incidentally, in case of the MC9 units equipped with D04 Filter-Regulator, or D14
Regulator, solenoid valve (SOL) for air supply is activated at the time when electric power is
supplied.
(1) Operation and Alarming of the MC9 units with Oil Drip Monitor, Oil Feed Monitor
(with control circuit)
・By switching the START switch ON, after DC24V electric power source is supplied to the MC9
unit, oil drip monitor, oil feed monitor executes initial sensitivity adjustment, and then
preliminary operation is performed to confirm oil dripping.
・Pump is actuated with rate of 60shots/min at preliminary operation and is actuated 100times at
a maximum. When 4 drippings of oil within 6 seconds is succeeded, preliminary operation is
finished even before reaching 100times preliminary pump action. After this action is
completed, the pump continues the action with oil shot rate by setting of DIP Switch.
・LED1 (Green) lamp on the circuit board lightens when the valve (PV) actuating pump is
activated.
NOTE: In case that the 4 drippings within 6 seconds are not confirmed, pump
continues action, and alarming signal by abnormality is issued. Remove
electric power supply at this time. And surely remove causes of abnormality
before making electricity again to the lubrication unit. Abnormal alarming
signals in the time of preliminary operation will be removed by making the
electric power OFF.
Filling the tube of oil passage tube between reservoir and oil drip tube
through pump with oil will solve the cause of abnormality in the preceding
clause 4 (p.12).
・Remote sensitivity adjustment of the oil dripping monitor is automatically executed if no oil
dripping within 30seconds is detected. Besides, if there is not any oil dripping within
succeeding 30seconds, abnormal alarming signal will be issued. This monitors to be 1 drip or
more drips within 1minute.
・When oil amount in the reservoir fell to the level of oil replenishment, level-switch (LS) is
switched and LED2 (red) on the control circuit board blinks to prompt oil replenishment. At the
same time, electric contact point comes to OPEN between terminal 4 and 6 for alarming of oil
shortage.
・Prompting oil replenishment (blinking of LED2) will be continued for 15 minutes. Refill oil during
this time. If oil is not refilled, alarming signal by abnormality will be issued and will hold itself.

(Blinking of LED2 changes to continuous lightening).
・If above abnormality occurs, firstly make START switch OFF. Then remove abnormal causes
(oil amount shortage). After solving abnormal cause, make START switch ON. (Abnormality
signal kept itself will be cancelled by making START switch OFF).
(2) Operation and Alarming of the MC9 units without Oil Drip Monitor, Oil Feed Monitor
(with control circuit)
・By switching the START-switch ON, after DC24V electric power source is supplied to the MC9
unit, preliminary pump action is performed 5times by rate of 1shot/sec. After this action, pump
continues to send oil to the venturi-nozzle with oil shot rate by setting of the DIP Switch.
・LED1 (Green) lamp on the circuit board lightens when the valve (PV) actuating pump is
activated.
NOTE: Filling the tube of oil passage tube between reservoir and oil drip tube through pump
with oil will solve the cause of abnormality in the preceding clause 4 (p.9).
(3) Alarming of Abnormality ・・・ and cancelling of alarming signal
When any of following causes occurs, alarming signals are issued by related equipment.
①In case of oil shortage: Level Switch (LS) switches.
②In case of abnormality of operating pressure: Pressure Switch (PS) for operating pressure
switches.
③In case of abnormality manifold pressure: Pressure Switch (MPS) for manifold pressure
switches.
④In case of the MC9 unit with Drip Monitor, or Oil Feed Monitor, incomplete supply of oil to
the venturi-nozzle is detected by the above monitor: Oil Drip Monitor, Oil Feed Monitor
issues alarming output signal.
⑤Incidentally, alarming signals will be issued at the time the abnormal condition related
above
①~③is continued over 1sec.
Since the abnormal signals are kept itself until the START-switch switches OFF, switching
OFF the START-switch is necessary in order to cancel the self-kept abnormal signals.
However, surely remove abnormality cause before making the START-switch ON.
7-7. Dripping Oil Quantities, and Oil Consumption
・It is necessary to adjust the best oil supply to each machine and equipment.
Especially for high speed bearing lubrication, the oil supply may be reduced and the manifold
pressure may be adjusted higher. Consult to Azbil TA if there is any unclear.
(1) Oil drop quantity can be adjusted by operative frequency of oil shot pump.
(2) Confirmation of output oil amount.
Approx. 10% of the oil drop in the sight-dome becomes Micron-Fog that is transferred to the
manifold piping. The oil consumption, which is shown on oil level display of oil reservoir, is
thought very little even after a whole day operation. Therefore oil consumption could be
calculated by the oil level change after use of one or several weeks.
{PREVIOUS LEVEL(cm)-LATEST LEVEL(cm)}
×114 = V(cm3/day)
ACTUAL OPERATION(days)

16
・If the machine operation is irregular in a day, calculate the oil amount (V cm3/h) by dividing with
actual operated time (h, hour).
(3) Estimated calculation of oil consumption from the number of oil drips in the sight-dome.
MC9 oil shots pump supplies oil drop to venturi-nozzle by 0.05 cm3per shot through the drip
tube in the sight-dome. If 10% of the supplied oil amount (atomized oil percentage would
depend on kind of oils, and operating pressure) is transferred to lubrication:
Oil consumption for 1minute is as following:
N (=Number of oil drips) × 0.05 × 0.1 =0.005 × N(cm3 )
(4) Generation of Micron-Fog by Micron-Lub unit will be confirmed by followings.
Put glass plate or mirror in front of the Fog-Nozzle for about 5 minutes.
If oil appeared on the surface of the glass plate or mirror, lubrication system works
satisfactorily.
If there is an extra port of nozzle branched from the main manifold, use this port for checking.
If an extra nozzle port is branched from the main manifold line, use this port for checking.
7-8. Oil Replenishment
・Oil replenishment is possible without stopping the supply air
and the supply electricity.
・Oil replenishment should be done when oil surface moves to
the OIL FILL LEVEL of the reservoir or when alarming signal
is issued through oil level switch.
Oil amount remained in the reservoir is enough to ensure
sufficient time for oil replenishment on this time. Replenish
oil without haste.
・Open the filler ports after checking around the filler port is
clean, and replenish the oil slowly. After oil replenishment,
close the filler port cap tightly.
・Refill clean specified oil
・Pour oil little by little for the refilling during the operation in order to avoid blow
off of oil by weak return air.
・Do not use non-specified oil. The machine could be damaged
7-9. Operation of Warning equipment
・If operating pressure decrease, manifold pressure failure, or oil amount decrease occurred, the
warning signal will be issued. Output equipment such as lamp and buzzer, if these were installed,
would be actuated by the warning signal.
・When the warning has issued, check each section according to each warning.
・Operating pressure switch: PS switches when operating pressure becomes under 0.1MPa.

17
8. Maintenance & checking
・Daily maintenance items are:
1) Checking of operating pressure:
[ ] MPa
(=set pressure of Filter-Regulator)
2) Checking of quantities of oil drips:
[ ] drips/min.
3) Checking of oil consumption:
[ ] cm3/h (or cm3/day)
4) Checking of manifold pressure:
[ ] MPa
5) Checking of operation of automatic drain valve of filter or Filter-Regulator unit.
6) Checking of oil level in the reservoir.
7) Drain the remaining oil in fog selection bowl, if oil level exceeded 1cm from bottom of the bowl,
by increasing manifold pressure (if draining impossible, clean or replace condensing fitting
and screen of return tube).
・Periodical inspection & maintenance
1) Cleaning and/or replacement of filter element, bowl and automatic drain valve of air filter.
2) Replacing venturi nozzle, if damaged.
3) Expelling the deteriorated oil in the reservoir, and replacing oil shot pump if damaged.
4) Checking air leaks of the piping
5) Checking of damage piping
6) Check whether Fog-nozzles are choked up or not
7) Removal of oil drain accumulated in the bearings housing.
・Checks and Processing of Oil Drain
If the oil amount is properly supplied, the great portion of Micron-fog supplied to each lubricated
element is consumed for lubrication. However, according as utilization of the unit becomes long
years, oil will collect gradually in the bearings housing etc.
Preparing oil drainage port in the lowest part of bearings housing is recommended to enables to
discharge such collected oil quickly. However, if there prepared a vent hole, which can be
utilized as drainage, preparing others for drainage is not needed. However, in case the tubing is
attached to the vent hole, take care not to clog up the tube with oil dirt.
9. Some Questions in use of MC9 units
1) No oil drips after the pump operation starts
Air bubbles that entered in pump, or in oil tube between pump inlet and tube end immersed in
reservoir mainly cause it.
Followings may cope with above problem.
(1) Confirm oil amount is at near the upper level in the reservoir.
(2) Turn by-pass adjustment screw clockwise to close fully, and set operating pressure at
0.3MPa.
(3) Actuate the pump repeatedly in above condition at a rate of once a second.
(4) There may be visible of oil rising in the tube in response to pump action. Repeat the pump
action until constant oil dripping is confirmed.
2) Others:
There would be no oil dripping in case of jamming of solid contaminants into pump mechanism
inside the pump or in case of damage of plunger tip seal. In this case, replace pump assembly
with new one or disassemble the pump to clean and to inspect inside pump.
Before disassembling the pump, shut off air supply and release air
pressure to zero, and shut off electricity to the MC9 unit.

18
・Oil is accumulated in the fog (mist) selecting bowl.
It is a normal state that oil height is within 1cm from the bottom of the bowl. If oil height is over
1cm, screen element on return tube or condensing fitting is clogged. Disassemble and clean
them. Use oil as clean as possible to avoid clogging screen element or condensing fitting, or
leavings by oil purifying accumulate in a short period.

Adjustment and Wiring of Oil Drip Monitor Amp-unit: For Reference
MC9-01L3/01B3-xx2x/xx3x /xx5x /xx7x /xx9x types are equipped with oil drip monitor.
Electrical wiring and adjustment of the oil drip monitor are as follows.
(Manual Sensitivity Adjustment)
1. Make CPL lubrication unit into operating condition,
2. Push the (Auto/OK) button one time in the time there is no oil drip.
3. At time of the sensitivity adjustment, input level indicates G first. IN the case input level
indicates
15hereafter, adjustment is completed.
4. In the case input level is under 4, repeat above adjustment up to level 5or more.
5. In the case input level is E, amount of light at the sensors is shortage. Cancel this by
pushing the (FUNC/CANCEL) button, and make adjustment again after the installation of
sensors is corrected.
(Input of Remote Sensitivity Adjustment)
・Sensitivity adjustment function provides suitable light intensity to the sensor section in
accordance with the change of transparency around the object detected.
・Make input of remote sensitivity adjustment (for 0.1~0.5 sec.) at the time of starting lubrication
operation, or at every few hours, with taking care not to synchronize with the timing of oil dripping.
Remote sensitivity adjustment function can adjust sensitivity to cope against change of
transparency light amount by dirtiness of the sight dome.
・Sensitivity adjustment input should be carried out in the time there is no oil dripping.
・Following electrical circuit composition is recommended for the warning of abnormal oil drip.
Output in the condition that abnormal detection occurs again within the given time, or within the
given number of drips, in the period after making remote sensitivity adjustment to the abnormal
drip, is utilized as output for abnormality warning.
