GRRT/BRRT
QUICK START RADIO REMOVAL IGUIDE FOR BECKER AND OTHER EUROPEAN RADIOS
Introduction
Many European vehicles equipped with Becker radios include side tabs (See Fig.1)
for locking radio in place. In these vehicles there is no need to disassemble the
dashboard for removal; instead, there is a lock tab spring-load mechanism that
is “open”in its natural state (See Fig. 1) and is what locks radio in place. A
special tool is inserted intothe apertures at the front of the unit to push tab into
an “unlock” position (See Fig. 3) thus freeing up radio from dashboard.
To get started, you will need:
1. Radio removal tools (GRRT, or BRRT)

Note: Despite their physical appearance, both are capable of releasing
these radios from dashboard.
2. Screwdrivers or plyers (optional)
Radio removal
Warning: Some radios may not slide out the dash as easy as others and may
appear stuck. Applying extra force may to ring openings may harm finger. To
avoid cuts, we recommend using a screwdriver, pliers etc. instead to gain
leverage.
Radios requiring removal tools are identified by key slots on both sides of radio
faceplate. (See Fig. 1) This is where tools are inserted. Let’s get started.
Fig. 1
1. Insert tool with straight edge is facing away from radio (See Fig. 2)
Note: If inserted backwards they will not lock and may jam
Fig. 2
2. Insert tool to second detent position. This action closes the spring-
loaded mechanism. A little force may sometimes be required especially
if radio has never been removed (See Fig. 3
Note: Once locked in place, tool will not release (See step 5)
Fig. 3
3. Repeat step 2 on other radio slot using second tool.
4. Once both tools are locked in place, pull on key rings and radio should
slide out. If radio does not slide out easily, double check that tools are
locked. To avoid physical harm, we recommend inserting a screwdriver
in each key ring to create better leverage.
5. After radio removal, release tool by pushing spring load lock tab (See
Fig. 3). Tools not required for radio installation. Simply push radio back
into opening until it locks back in place.
Notes:
Radios with 4 slots (e.g. VW, Audi etc.) as seen in Fig. 4 requires 2 pairs (4 tools).
Follow steps 1-5 for a successful radio removal operation.
