Welcome to the family of Li - CONTRO L users and thank you for
expres s ing you r confi d ence in B EH RI NGER products by purcha si ng
th e UCA202. Wi th the UCA202 you have purc h ased ah igh -
perfor m ance audio inter face th at in cludes a USB connector. It is
thu san ideal so u nd ca rd for yo ur laptop comp u ter or an essential
recording /pl ayback co m po n ent for s tudio enviro n ments that
invo l ve d esktop comp u te rs.
T he UCA202 is PC and Mac-compatible. Therefore , no separate
insta ll atio n procedu reisreq uired , whi le the ope r ating sys tem
d rivers ensure an ex t remely sh ort l atency . Thanks to its robust
construction and compact dimensions , the UCA202 is also ideal for
traveling . The separate headp hon es output a ll ows you to pl ay back
your recordings at any time , eve nif you don't happen to have any
lo u dspeakers availab l e.

1.1 Before you started

You r UCA202 was carefu ll y packed at the assembly pla nt to assure
secure transport. Sh ould the condition of the cardboard box
suggest that damage may have take npl ace, please ins p ect the unit
immediately and look for phys i ca l indications of damage .

1.1.2 Initial operation
Pl ease mak e sure the unit is provided wi th sufficient ventilation,
and never pl ace the UCA202 on top of an amplifier or in the vicinity
of a heater to avoid the ri sk of overheating.
The cu r rent su pp ly is made via the USB connecting cable, so tha t
there is no external po wer s upp ly unit required . All required sa fet y
precautions have been adhered to.

2. System Requirements

Use the USB connecting cable supplied w ith the UCA202 to conne,
the unit to your computer. T he USB connection a lso supplies the
UCA202 with current. You ca n connect a variety of devices and
equipme nt to th e inputs and ou tputs .

3.1 Front panel

CD The LED i nd ica te s the s tatus of the USB power s upply .
OJ DIGITAL OUTPUT : The To si ink ja ck carrie s an S/ PDIF signal
which can be connecte d via a fiber opt ic cable, for example ,
to the digital input of an e ffect s device.
CD U se the () jack to co nn ec tas tandard pair of headphone s
eq uipp ed wit ha 1/a" TRS co nne ctor.
CD The VOLUME control adjusts the volume level of the
headphones ou tput. Turn the control fully to th e left before
you connect the headphones . This helps you avoid the
damage th at is caused by high volume se tting s.

Connect the o utp uts of th e subg roup (i nt hi s case ALT 3-4 OUT)
wi th th ei np uts of the U CA202 m Yo u ca nch oo se to co nn ect the
output s CD of the int e rfac e eit her to th e TAPE INPUT socke ts or
to your monitor spea kers . You ca n con n ect control headphones to
the O socket CD of the U CA202 or to th e headph on es output of
your mixing co n so l e. U se th eU SB cab le supp li ed w ith th e unit to
connect yo ur PC or MAC via the USB int e rfac e.
By routing each channel that yo uw ant to record through th e ALB -4
s ubgroup , you can no wu se the input channel s of th e mi x ing co n so le
to reco rd different s ignal s (e.g. microphon e, guitar , so und mo dul e,
etc.) in the co mputer. If you connect the OUT j acks of the UCA202 to
c hann el input s7/8( not via TAPE I NPUT) , mak es ur e that th es ignal is
not sw itched to th e subgro up but in stead to th em ain output of yo ur
mi xer ( MUTE k ey on the UB1204FX - PRO in ch an nel7/8 not pressed ).
Other wi se feedback ca n occ ur. Make su re th at yo uuse th e SO URCE
sec tion on the mi x ing co n so le to se lect th e corr ec tmo nit o ring path s
(A LT 3-4 an d MAIN MIX or ALT 3-4a nd T APE) .
If you l ea d the U CA202 back viaac hannel input (not TA PE INPU T) ,
yo u ca n also u se th e aux path in the cha nn el to se tupa monitor
mi x for li ve mu s ici ans. To do thi s,u se th e Au x Se nd (e .g. Aux 1)
in this chan nel input. If the mu sic ian sw ant to h ea r them se lv es as
we ll as the playback or pr ev i ous recording tak es, u se th e Aux Sends
in the re cord i ng chan n els to mix in the recording signa lsw ith the
monitor mi x.
