AERATOR
This machine is designed for aerating established lawns and large grass covered areas. The machine should
not be used for any other purpose than that stated above.
DO NOT OPERATE IF EXCESSIVE VIBRATION OCCURS!
If excessive vibration occurs, shut engine off immediately and check for damaged or worn reel, loose reel
bearing, loose engine or lodged debris. To remove debris from the machine, see the machine specic trouble
shooting section. Note: See parts list for proper bolt torque specications.
HANDLING & TRANSPORTING
Always use two or more people to lift these machines. Lift holding on either side of the machine, using the han-
dles and the frame. Secure in place during transportation. See specications for unit weight.
For safety, use gloves when lifting.
Never lift any machine while the engine is running.

Operation
Initial Set-Up Assembly
Refer to Figure X in the Packing Checklist section to identify parts in Initial Set-Up Assembly.
1. UNFOLD the upper handle (A, Figure X) and slide handle lock loops (B, Figure X) into place to secure the
upper handle to the lower.
2. ATTACH the tine lift cable (C, Figure X) to the tine lever (D, Figure X) in the center of the handle by inserting
the pin into it. Then attach the bail cable (E, Figure X) to the bail (F, Figure X). Check to make sure the cables
are functioning properly before operation and not binding.
3. CHECK engine oil level and ll to proper level. Also check oil in gear reduction reservoir and ll if necessary.
See engine owner’s manual for type and amount of oil to use.
4. CONNECT spark plug wire. Set the engine stop switch (G, Figure X) to the ON position.
STARTING THE ENGINE
See engine manufacturer’s instructions for type and amount of oil and gasoline used. Engine must be level
when checking and lling oil and gasoline.
ENGINE SPEED: Controlled by lever on the engine. Under normal conditions, operate at the minimum
throttle speed to accomplish your task.
ON/OFF: Set the on/off switch to ON
FUEL VALVE: Move fuel valve to “ON” position. (Honda: Located below the air cleaner on the engine.)
CHOKE: Engage the choke when starting a cold engine. (Honda: Located below the air cleaner on the
engine.)
THROTTLE: Move the throttle control lever on the engine to fast position. Pull starting rope to start engine.
If your unit fails to start, check trouble shooting section in operator’s manual and also see engine
manual. Note: Honda engines are equipped with a low oil sensor to prevent engine damage. When it sens-
es a low oil condition (i.e. unit is operating or sitting on a steep slope) the engine shuts down. The low oil
condition must be corrected before the engine can be restarted. See the engine owner’s manual for more
information.
AERATING OPERATION
Note: Never park this unit on a slope of any kind. Always keep tines in the up position when parking the unit.
TINES RAISING/LOWERING: The tines are raised or lowered into the ground by operating the tine en-
gagement lever on the upper handle. Tine penetration is very dependent on surface preparation. READ the
entire operation section before aerating.
ENGAGE TINES: With the aerator in the work area, lower the tines by releasing the center lever on the
handle. When the lever is in the forward position, pull up on the bail to engage the tines.
AERATE: Push the machine with the tines engaged. NOTE: In cold temperatures engage the tines in the
up position for two minutes to warm the cam grease. For maximum tine penetration apply downward pres-
sure on the handle.

Operation
TURNING: At the end of an aerating run, release the bail and raise the tines out of the ground. Then repo-
sition the unit for another pass and lower the tines to begin another run.
TRANSPORT: Be sure to raise tines out of the ground (disengaging the bail and then raising the tines with
the center lever) before transporting away from the work area.
TIPS
MOW: Mow the lawn to its normal cut height.
WATER: For the best performance and maximum tine penetration the lawn should be thoroughly watered
the day before aeration.
INSPECT: Check the lawn before beginning work. Remove all rocks, wire, string, or other objects that can
present a hazard during work prior to starting.
IDENTIFY: Mark all xed objects to be avoided during work, such as sprinkler heads, water valves, buried
cables, or clothes line anchors, etc.
SLOPES: Do not operate the aerator on steep slopes (exceeding 15o). Use extreme caution when operat-
ing on any sloped surface. For lesser sloped areas operate the unit, traversing up and down at a 45oangle
to the slope rather than straight across. Extended operation on steep slopes can cause engine damage.

La máquina no debe utilizarse para nes distintos a los arriba indicados.
¡NO OPERE LA MÁQUINA SI SE PRODUCEN VIBRACIONES EXCESIVAS!
Si se producen vibraciones excesivas, apague el motor inmediatamente y observe si el carrete está dañado
o desgastado, si el cojinete del carrete o el motor están ojos o si hay residuos depositados. Para eliminar
los residuos de la máquina, consulte la sección de resolución de problemas especícos de la máquina. Nota:
Consulte en la lista de piezas las especicaciones de par de apriete correcto de tornillos.
MANIPULACIÓN Y TRANSPORTE
Recurra siempre a dos o más personas para levantar estas máquinas. Levante la sujeción a ambos lados
de la máquina, utilizando las asas y el bastidor. Asegúrela en su lugar durante el transporte. Consulte las
especicaciones para el peso de la unidad.

Funcionamiento
Montaje inicial de la máquina
Consulte la Figura X en el apartado Lista de control de embalaje para identicar las piezas en el montaje
inicial de la máquina.
1. DESPLIEGUE el mango superior (A, Figura X) y deslice los ojales de bloqueo del mango (B, Figura X) a su
posición para asegurar el mango superior con el inferior.
2. ACOPLE el cable de elevación de dientes (C, Figura X) a la palanca de dientes (D, Figura X) en el centro
del mango insertando el pasador. A continuación, je el cable de gancho (E, Figura X) en el gancho (F, Figura
X). Compruebe que los cables funcionan correctamente antes de su uso y que no se atascan.
3. CONTROLE el nivel de aceite del motor y rellene hasta el nivel adecuado. Controle también el aceite en el
depósito del reductor de engranaje y rellene si es necesario. Consulte el manual del propietario del motor para
conocer el tipo y la cantidad de aceite que debe emplearse.
4. CONECTE el cable de la bujía. Fije el interruptor de parada del motor (G, Figura X) en la posición ON.
ARRANQUE DEL MOTOR
Consulte las instrucciones del fabricante del motor para conocer el tipo y la cantidad de aceite y gasolina
empleados. El motor debe estar nivelado al controlar y cargar aceite y gasolina.
VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR: Se controla mediante palanca en el motor. En condiciones normales, opera
con la velocidad mínima del regulador de gases para ejecutar su tarea.
ON/OFF: Ponga el interruptor on/off en ON.
VÁLVULA DE COMBUSTIBLE: Mueva la válvula a la posición "ON". (Honda: está situada por debajo del
ltro de aire en el motor.)
ESTRANGULADOR DE AIRE: Aplique el estrangulador de aire para arrancar un motor frío. (Honda: está
situado por debajo del ltro de aire en el motor.)
REGULADOR DE GASES: Mueva la palanca de control de gases en el motor a la posición rápida. Tire del
cable de arranque para arrancar el motor. Si su unidad no arranca, consulte la sección de resolución
de problemas en el manual del operador y consulte también el manual del motor. Nota: Los motores
Honda están equipados con un sensor de bajo nivel de aceite para evitar daños al motor. Cuando detecta
un nivel bajo de aceite (p. ej. la unidad está funcionando o situada en una pendiente pronunciada), el
motor se apaga. El estado de nivel bajo de aceite se debe corregir antes de poder volver a arrancar el
motor. Consulte el manual del propietario del motor para obtener más información.
OPERACIÓN DE AIREACIÓN
Nota: Nunca estaciones esta unidad en una pendiente de ningún tipo. Mantenga los dientes en posición
elevada al estacionar la unidad.
ELEVACIÓN/DESCENSO DE DIENTES: Los dientes se elevan o descienden en el suelo accionando la
palanca de acoplamiento de dientes en el mango superior. La penetración de los dientes depende en gran
medida de la preparación de la supercie. LEA el apartado de funcionamiento al completo antes de airear.
ACOPLAR DIENTES: Con el aireador en el área de trabajo, baje los dientes soltando la palanca central del
mango. Cuando la palanca está en la posición de avance, tire hacia arriba del gancho para acoplar los dientes.
AIREAR: Empuje la máquina con los dientes acoplados. NOTA: En temperaturas frías, acople los dientes
en la posición elevada durante dos minutos para calentar la grasa de las levas. Para una penetración
máxima de los dientes, aplique presión hacia abajo en el mango.

Funcionamiento
GIRO: Al nal de una pasada de aireación, suelte el gancho y levante los dientes del suelo. A continuación,
recoloque la unidad para otra pasada y baje los dientes para comenzar otra pasada.
TRANSPORTE: Asegúrese de levantar los dientes del suelo (soltando el gancho y luego levantando los
dientes con la palanca central) antes de transportarlos fuera del área de trabajo.
CONSEJOS
SEGAR: Corte el césped a su altura de corte normal.
REGAR: Para un rendimiento óptimo y la máxima penetración de los dientes, el césped se debería regar a
fondo el día anterior a la aireación.
INSPECCIONAR: Controle el césped antes de comenzar el trabajo. Quite todas las piedras, alambres,
cordones y otros objetos que puedan entrañar un peligro durante el trabajo antes de comenzar.
IDENTIFICAR: Marque todos los objetos jos que deben evitarse durante el trabajo como, por ejemplo,
cabezales de aspersores, válvulas de agua, cables enterrados o jaciones de tendederos, etc.
PENDIENTES: No opere el aireador en pendientes pronunciadas (mayor que 15 15o). Tenga mucho
cuidado al operar el aireador en cualquier supercie inclinada. Para áreas menos inclinadas opere la
unidad, subiendo y bajando a un ángulo de 45o con respecto a la pendiente en lugar de hacerlo en línea
recta. Una operación prolongada en pendientes pronunciadas puede ocasionar daños al motor.
Mantenimiento
MANTENIMIENTO PERIÓDICO
El mantenimiento periódico debe realizarse en los siguientes intervalos:
