Safety information
Please read the following safety requirements and
operation instructions provided in this booklet before
using the automotive charger. Retain this booklet for
future reference and use.
The purpose of the RIM Automotive Charger is to enable
you to recharge your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld in a
vehicle.
DO NOT USE YOUR HANDHELD WHILE
OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.
It is unsafe to use your handheld while operating a motor
vehicle.
If you need to use your handheld while operating a
motor vehicle, ask a passenger to do so on your behalf.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT THE
AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER TO YOUR HANDHELD
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING.
It is unsafe to plug the automotive charger into your
handheld while operating a motor vehicle. You can use
the automotive charger with your handheld turned on or
off while your vehicle is stationary or in motion. However,
due to the coordination required to plug the automotive
charger cable into your handheld, connect the automotive

charger to your handheld only when your vehicle is
stationary.
IN THE EVENT THAT YOU USE THE HANDHELD
WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE, YOU DO
SO AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND MAY BE IN BREACH
OF THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS OF THE
COUNTRY IN WHICH YOU DRIVE. RIM ACCEPTS
NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE
ARISING OUT OF SUCH USE OF YOUR HANDHELD
BY YOU.
Please note that the engine of your vehicle must be
running, and your vehicle’s battery must be operational in
order for the automotive charger to charge your handheld.
DO NOT USE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER
OUTSIDE OR IN AN AREA EXPOSED TO THE
ELEMENTS.
The automotive charger is for indoor use only. Never spill
liquid of any kind on the automotive charger or your
handheld.
DO NOT PLACE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER OR
YOUR HANDHELD BEING CHARGED ON ANY
UNSTABLE SURFACE AND KEEP THEM OUT OF
THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

If the automotive charger is placed on any unstable
surface, such as a dashboard, it may fall, thereby
potentially causing serious injury to a child or adult and/
or serious damage to your handheld. Place the automotive
charger in a secure and stable spot and route the cable in a
way that reduces the risk of injury to others (including
injury due to entangling or choking). The automotive
charger should be operated only from the type of power
source indicated on the marking label.
Never push objects of any kind into your handheld
through openings as they may short-out parts and could
result in a fire or electric shock.
Unplug the automotive charger before cleaning it. Do not
use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth to clean the
unit.
Immediately unplug the automotive charger from your
handheld and from the power outlet, and refer the
automotive charger for service to qualified service
personnel if:
• The power outlet, USB port connector of the
automotive charger or the USB port of your handheld
is damaged.
• Liquid has been spilled on the automotive charger.

• The automotive charger has been exposed to rain or
water.
• The automotive charger becomes very hot to the touch.
• The automotive charger has been dropped or damaged
in any way.
• The automotive charger does not operate normally by
following the instructions contained in this booklet.
• The automotive charger exhibits a distinct change in
performance.
Use of the automotive charger is specifically limited to use
in accordance with the directions provided in this booklet.
Improper use or failure to observe the safety requirements
may result in damage and/or personal injury and will
often require extensive work by a qualified technician to
restore the automotive charger to its normal operation. Do
not attempt to disassemble the automotive charger.
For information on qualified service personnel in your
area, please contact your network operator or service
provider.
Failure to observe all these instructions will void the
Limited Warranty, and may lead to suspension or denial
of services to the offender, or legal action, or both.

Charging the handheld
1. Insert the USB connector at the end of the automotive
charger cable into the USB port of your handheld.

2. Plug the power adapter at the end of the automotive
charger cable into the power outlet in your vehicle.
Note: Your vehicle must be turned on for the
automotive charger to charge your handheld.
Note: The LED at the bottom of the automotive
charger is red, which indicates that it is ready to
charge.

3. Let the handheld charge to full battery power. When
the handheld is charging, the battery power indicator
changes to a charging indicator. After your handheld is
fully charged, the battery power indicator replaces the
charging indicator.

4. After the handheld is charged, disconnect the
handheld from the automotive charger and unplug the
automotive charger from the power outlet in your
vehicle.

Operational Requirements
The automotive charger model ACC-04173-001 is for use
with the BlackBerry 6210™, BlackBerry 6220™, BlackBerry
6260™, and BlackBerry 6510™ Wireless Handheld models
only.
Your automotive charger can be used with most 12 to 24 V
DC power outlets found in cars, trucks and other motor
vehicles. The automotive charger is not designed for use
with any other power sources.
