Thank you for purchasing a Bruno Electra-Ride™
Stairway Elevator. We are confident it will enhance
your mobility throughout years of dependable service.
To gain a thorough understanding of the SRE-1540,
take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the
contents of this owner’s manual. Also, take advan-
tage of the training provided by your dealer/installer.
While s/he demonstrates the correct and safe opera-
tion of the Electra-Ride™, be sure to take several trial
runs on the unit while the dealer/installer is still on
site. This will allow you to resolve any uncertainties,
and be able to operate the unit safely and with
confidence.
Finally, review the warranty with your dealer (or a
representative). Sign and date the product registra-
tion form and then send it to our Oconomowoc,
Wisconsin address.
Best wishes from the Bruno Team!

SEATING
The seat assembly on the SRE-1540 is designed
to swivel 180 degrees (with standard armrests)
and to lock in five (5) positions:
0, 45, 90, 135, and 180 degrees.
Lifting up on swivel lever on either side of the
seat allows you to swivel the seat to a convenient
position for transferring into or out of the seat.
Once you release the swivel lever, the seat will
lock in the closest of the five positions indicated
above.
To lower the seat assembly from a folded-up
position, simply slide and hold the seat release
lever toward the center of the seat cusion while
lowering the seat to the riding position.

FOR YOUR SAFETY
Each stairway elevator is designed to descend the
stairway at a slightly slower speed than is the case
when going UP. The maximum speed of the
carriage can be adjusted by your installer or by
following the procedure outlined in the installation
manual.
The footrest and carriage incorporate obstruction
sensors which will stop the carriage if an obstacle is
encountered on the stairs.
If this should occur, press the opposite side of the
UP / DOWN rocker control switch to run the carriage
in the opposite direction. Clear the obstacle from
the stairway or rail and proceed as usual.
Your SRE-1540 is battery powered and will continue
to operate for some time during a power outage.
The length of operation will depend on the condition
of the batteries, the length of the stairs, and the
weight of the rider.
Only in the event of a prolonged power outage
(more than one hour) will it be necessary to turn the
power off with the toggle switch on the rear of the
carriage and unplug charger from wall outlet to
conserve battery charge.

Be sure stairs are clear of objects before
operating the stairway elevator.
Avoid carrying items which could impair travel.
Do not wear LOOSE clothing that could inter-
fere with travel.
Fasten your positioning belt before operating
the stairway elevator.
Make sure the seat is locked in the correct
riding position (up / down travel).
Be certain seat swivel is locked in one of the
five positions (0, 45, 90, 135 or 180 degrees)
before attempting entry or exit.

OPERATION
Review the functions and location of all controls on
your SRE-1540 with your dealer /installer.
Any question you may have is important--please ask!
1. Position yourself in the seat.
2. Fasten the positioning belt.
3. Raise and hold the seat swivel lever.
4. Rotate the seat so that you are at right angles
to the rail (with your back to the stairway wall).
5. Release the seat swivel lever to secure the seat
in that position.
A safety switch prevents operation of the SRE-1540
unless the seat is locked in position at right angles
to the rail (the “riding” position).
6. Position both feet securely on the footrest and
place your arms on the armrest cushions.
The UP / DOWN rocker switch is located on the front
edge of one of the armrests (usually the right one).
Depressing and holding one end of the rocker switch
will cause the carriage to move in that direction until
the carriage stops automatically at the upper or lower
end of the stair rail, or until the switch is released.

Your SRE-1540 includes a "soft-start" feature
which prevents the unit from moving abruptly the
instant the switch is depressed. The switch must
be depressed and held for a moment before the
carriage gently accelerates to operating speed.
Two (2) remote call / send transmitters enable you
to move the carriage to or from either end of the
stair rail. Mount the call / send units using pro-
vided hardware in a convenient location at the
upper and lower ends of the stairs.
Three (3) AAA batteries are required. For battery
replacement, see the Maintenance section.

BATTERIES AND BATTERY CHARGER
It is important to keep the batteries charged to ensure
optimal operation of your SRE-1540. The batteries are
charging whenever the carriage is parked tightly against the
brackets at either end of the rail. Whenever the carriage
does not engage the the upper or lower charge bracket, the
batteries will slowly discharge. Failure to keep the batteries
charged or allowing them to discharge fully will significantly
shorten the life of the batteries.
Therefore, when the stairway elevator is not in use, the
carriage MUST be parked at either end of the rail (i.e., must
engage the charge contacts) to keep the batteries charged
and ready for use.
The yellow LED light on the upper and lower charge
brackets (see illustration above) glows when the carriage
is correctly parked against these charge contacts.
If your application prevents parking the carriage at one or
the other end of the stairs (for example, a door at the top of
the stairs), ALWAYS use the call/send transmitter to move
the carriage to the end of the rail where the carriage can
contact the charge bracket. Call it back to the other end of
the stairs when needed.

The battery charger is designed to keep the batteries fully
charged without overcharging them. Leave the charger ON
during normal use. Allowing the batteries to fully discharge
will require a service call and may require battery replace-
ment.
Lights on the battery charger indicate that it is working
correctly and show the state of charge of the batteries.
*RED LED `ON' = AC Power on (power cord plugged in)
*CONTINUOUS YELLOW LED = Batteries charging
*FLASHING YELLOW LED = Batteries are 80% charged
*CONTINUOUS GREEN LED = Batteries in "charge
completing" mode (or float/standby condition)
*FLASHING GREEN LED = Possible battery fault detected
after battery has failed to reached the end of the first stage
of charging (continuous yellow LED) after approx. 18 hours.
Consult an authorized Bruno dealer.

MAINTENANCE
Your SRE-1540 Electra-Ride™ Stairway
Elevator is designed to provide many years of
reliable service with minimal maintenance.
For best service life, observe the following:
1. Keep the stair rail channel clean and
free of debris.
2. Always park the carriage at one end
of the rail so that the batteries charge
when not in use.
3. Keep the battery charger plugged
into a live outlet at all times.
4. At least once a year, have components
such as poly V-belts examined,
cleaned and lubricated by a
qualified service technician.
Refer to the Yearly Maintenance
Operations list in the installation
manual.

To replace the batteries in the call/send
transmitter, detach the transmitter from the
wall and remove the back cover with a coin
or screwdriver. Three AAA batteries required.
Circuit Breaker
The on/off switch is built into the circuit
breaker located on the back side of the
carriage. It is provided to protect the battery /
controller / motor circuits in the stairway
elevator carriage.
It is unlikely that this circuit breaker will ever
trip in normal use. However, if the elevator
becomes inoperative, check the circuit breaker
and reset it if necessary. If the circuit breaker
trips, troubleshoot to determine the cause, then
taken the appropriate corrective action.
Refer to the Troubleshooting section in the
installation manual.

VACATION / LONG TERM STORAGE
If the SRE-1540 will remain unused for an
extended period of time, turn off the circuit
breaker first, then unplug the battery charger
from the wall outlet.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT unplug the charger from
the wall outlet without first turning off the circuit
breaker. Unplugging the charger BEFORE
turning off the circuit breaker will result in battery
discharge or premature battery failure.
When you are ready to use the SRE-1540 once
again, first turn on the circuit breaker, then plug
the battery charger back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: The batteries may require recharging
before normal use if the stairway elevator
remained unused for an extended period of
time.
To recharge, simply turn on the circuit
breaker, reconnect the charger to the wall
outlet and wait until the charger LED’s indi-
cate that the batteries are fully recharged.
