3Getting started
Connecting the handset and line cords
1. Plug one end of t e andset cord into t e andset
socket and t e ot er end into t e socket at t e
end of t e base.
2. Plug t e telep one line cord into t e socket on t e
underside of t e base. Plug t e ot er end into t e
telep one wall socket.
■If you want to use t e p one on a desk or similar surface, press
t e telep one line cord into t e groove on t e underside of t e
base so t at t e p one sits flat.
If you want to wall mount t e p one see t e following section.
Wall mounting your phone (optional)
1. Drill two oles in t e wall 133mm vertically apart.
2. Insert t e wall plugs into t e oles, t en drive in
t e screws. Leave approximately 5mm of t e
screw ead protruding from t e wall to old t e
base securely in place.
3. Slide out t e andset ook on t e base, rotate it
180º and replace it. T e andset will rest on t e
ook w en wall mounted.

Make a call

2. Enter t e telep one number and it will be dialled.
End a call
1. Replace t e andset to end a call.

Receive a call
1. W en you receive a call, t e p one will ring and
t e red Calls lig t will flas .
2. Pick up t e andset to answer t e call.
Redial
1. Press . T e last number called is
automatically redialled.
Secrecy
1. During a call, press and hold . Your caller
cannot ear you now.
2. Release to resume your call.
Ringer volume
1. Adjust t e switc to your preferred volume, High,
Low or Off (if you do not want to be disturbed).

from your network provider. A quarterly fee is payable.

2. Press again to alternate between t e
two calls.

8General information
Safety
■Clean t e p one wit a damp (not wet) clot , or
an anti-static wipe. Never use ouse old polis as
t is will damage t e product. Never use a dry clot
as t is may cause a static s ock.
■Do not expose to direct sunlig t.
■Do not stand your product on carpets or ot er
surfaces w ic generate fibres, or place it in
locations preventing t e free flow of air over
its surfaces.
■Do not submerge any part of your product in
water and do not use it in damp conditions, suc
as bat rooms.
■Do not expose your product to fire, explosive or
ot er azardous conditions.

Your BT Duet 20 telep one is guaranteed for a
period of 12 mont s from t e date of purc ase.
Subject to t e terms listed below, t e guarantee will
provide for t e repair of, or at BT’s or its agent’s
discretion t e option to replace t e BT Duet 20, or
any component t ereof, w ic is identified as faulty
or below standard, or as a result of inferior
workmans ip of materials. Products over 28 days
old from t e date of purc ase may be replaced
wit a refurbis ed or repaired product.

9 General information
The conditions of this guarantee are:
■T e guarantee s all only apply to defects t at
occur wit in t e 12 mont guarantee period.
■Proof of purc ase is required.
■T e equipment is returned to BT or its agent
as instructed.
■T is guarantee does not cover any faults or
defects caused by accidents, misuse, fair wear and
tear, neglect, tampering wit t e equipment, or
any attempt at adjustment or repair ot er t an
t roug approved agents.
■T is guarantee does not affect your statutory rig ts.
utside of the 12 month guarantee period:
If your product needs repair after t e guarantee
period as ended, t e repair must meet t e
approval requirements for connection to t e
telep one network. We recommend t at you
contact BT’s approved repair agent, TecLogic on
01672 564444 or a local qualified repairer.
Returning your phone
W ere possible, pack t e product in its original
packaging. Please remember to include all parts,
including t e line cords. (Please note t at we
cannot take responsibility for goods damaged in
transit.) Please obtain and keep proof of posting
from t e sender.

10 Tec nical information
How many telephones can you have?
All items of telep one equipment ave a Ringer
Equivalence Number (REN), w ic is used to
calculate t e number of items w ic may be
connected to any ot er telep one line. Your BT
Duet 20 as a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is
allowed. If t e total REN of 4 is exceeded, t e
telep one may not ring. Wit different telep one
types t ere is no guarantee of ringing, even w en
t e REN is less t an 4.

T is product is intended for use wit in t e UK for
connection to t e public telep one network and
compatible switc boards.
T is equipment complies wit t e essential
requirements for t e Radio Equipment and
Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive
1999/5/EC.

Switc board compatibility
T is product is intended for use wit in t e UK for
connection to public telep one network and
compatible switc boards, w ic support tone
dialling and timed break recall. If in doubt please
consult your network service provider.

11 Tec nical information
Switc board external line
access code
W en connected to an internal switc board, you
may need to enter an access code (e.g. 9) to get
an outside line. So t at t e switc board as time
to pick up an outside line, you may also need to
add a pause after t e access code. A ‘pause’ lasts
3.6 seconds.
To insert a pause
1. Begin dialling a number and press w ere a
pause is required.
■You may also need to insert a pause w en dialling international
numbers, c arge card numbers and wit ot er tele-banking
facilities.
Recall
T e button is used w en connected to
certain switc boards, for example to transfer calls,
and for some BT Calling Features or t ose services
available via your network provider.
