1 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 Symbol used
The following symbols are used in these operation instructions:
marks a working step that you must carry out.
ATTENTION! Indicates information that must be followed. Failure to do this could
endanger your health or the functionality of the device..
NOTE Indicates important additional information, tips and recommen-
dations..
1.2 Intended use
The device is designed only for use as an electromotive rotary on/off actuator or
control actuator for ball or flap valves. Any other use is not considered the intended
use. Bürkert is not responsible for any damages resulting from such use. The user
bears all risk.
The safety features of the device may not be defeated under any circumstances. All
accident protection guidelines must be obeyed at all times.
Unauthorized rebuilding or changes to the device are not allowed for safety reasons.
When exchanging parts due to failure or normal wear, use only original replacement
parts.
The operating instructions in the individual chapters must be followed and the safety
tips be obeyed at all times. If the operating instructions, safety tips, or safety informati-
on are ignored or not followed in the proper order, the warranty shall be void.
Read the operating instructions carefully. In particular, follow the chapter „General
safety information.“
The operating manual describes the entire life cycle of the device. Therefore, take care
to keep the manual and make it accessible to the appropriate device users

1.3 General safety information
Observe the conditions of use and permissible data specified in the operating ma-
nual in the chapter „Technical data“ and on the model plate of the device, so that the
device will function properly and have a long operating lifetime:
• Always observe the general rules of engineering when carrying out applications
planning and when operating the device.
• Take suitable measures to prevent unintentional operation or inadmissible
damage.
• Installation and maintenance work may only be carried out by specialized
personnel using appropriate tools.
• During operation, observe all applicable accident protection and safety guidelines
for electrical equipment.
• Always switch off the power before opening the system.
• Always connect multiple actuators with phase isolation through a switch.
• Protect electrical actuators with a power supply independent circuit breaker.
• Only operate the device in its original configuration.
• Failure to observe this information and unauthorized access into the device
releases us from all liability and annuls the guarantees applicable to the devices
and accessories.
1.4 Protection against damage through electrostatic charge

The device contains electronic components that are react
sensitively to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Contact with
electrostatically charged persons or objects will endanger
these components. In the worst case, they will be
immediately destroyed or will fail after commissioning.
Observe the requirements according to EN 100 015 - 1 in
order to minimise or avoid the possibility of damage through
sudden electrostatic discharge. You should also ensure that
the electronic components do not come into contact with
nearby supply voltages.

1.5 Scope of delivery
Immediately after receipt of the consignment, ensure that the contents have not been
damaged, and that they agree with the scope of delivery quoted on the enclosed
packaging slip.

2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
2.1 General description
The Type 3003 electrical actuator is designed as an electromotive rotary on/off or
control actuator for ball or flap valves. The materials used ensure maintenance-free
operation and a low thermal load.
Due to its modular construction, the basic device can be extended with many options.
It is available for continuous or three-phase current with different torques for 20 Nm,
35 Nm, 60 Nm, or 100 Nm of torque.
All actuators are equipped with a standard emergency manual control and two additi-
onal limit switches, and are tested by the manufacturer. The limit switches are set for a
90° operating range so that configuration is unnecessary.

4 INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING
4.1 Safety information
While installing the Type 3003 electrical actuator, please observe the following
safety tips:
• Check the technical data sheet before you install or open the actuator.
Turn off the power before you
- remove the cover,
- separate the gears,
- move the lever.
• Before installation, ensure that the manual level can move freely.
• Always connect multiple actuators with phase isolation through a switch.
• Protect electrical actuators with a power supply independent circuit breaker.
4.2 Power and control connections
Work steps:
Remove the position indicator from the cover.
Loosen the cover screws with a screwdriver and lift the cover off.
DIN plug option:
Loosen the plug screw and insert the connection leads through the plug.
Insert the AC connection,
DC connection,
connection to the control card (AC/DC)
as shown in the follwing tables.
NOTE The ISO 20 cable connector must be used for wires from 5 mm to
12 mm
AC connection (see Figures 5, 6 and 7)

Thighten the plug screws after connecting the terminals as shown in the
corresponding table
Set the cover in place and screw it tight.
Reinstall the position indicator.

4.3 Connecting the additional limit switch
In the standard variant, the actuator has 2 additional limit switches (for 90º range of
motion). Connect these as follows.
Work steps:
Remove the position indicator from the cover.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the cover screws.
Lift the cover off.
DIN plug option:
Loosen the plug screw and insert the connection leads through the plug.
NOTE the ISO 20 cable connector must be used for wires from 5 mm to
12 mm.
Connect these as follows.
Normally closed (NC) Normally open (NO)

Tighten the screws of the plug after connecting power as described above.
Reinstall the plug.
Set the cover in place and screw it tight.
Reinstall the position indicator
ATTENTION! Do not move the coupling knob by hand; it is moved only by the
electrical actuator.

The procedure for setting the limit switches is shown in Figures 7 and 8.

5 OPERATION
5.1 Manual operation of the electrical actuator
ATTENTION! Turn off the power before manual operation
The actuator can be operated manually, for instance in case of a power outage. The
knob must be turned to „MAN“ and the drive shaft put into the „open position“ (work
steps: see Fig. 9).
Turn the knob from "AUTO" to "MAN".
Remove the position indicator from the cover.
Use a wrench to turn the drive shaft to the "OPEN POSITION".
Replace the position indicator.
(The marking should now show the "OPEN POSITION")

5.2 Returning from manual to automatic operation
To switch back into automatic operation, turn the knob to „AUTO“ and the drive shaft
to the „closed position“ (Work steps: see Figure 10).
Turn the knob from "MAN" to "AUTO".
Remove the position indicator from the cover.
Use a wrench to turn the setting pin of the drive shaft to the "CLOSED
POSITION".
Replace the position indicator. (The marking should now show the "CLOSED
POSITION".
