VIXIA HF R40/HF R42 Using Remote Browse
With the Remote Browse function, you can use the Web browser on your iOS device, Android
smartphone, computer or similar device to show a list of recordings in the camcorder, play
them back and even download them.
This conveniently allows you to view your recordings while you are out.
NOTE
Depending on the device, OS, browser, movie format and video quality, you may not be able to
play back or download recordings.
The procedure for using the Remote Browse function is explained below.
1. Turn on the camcorder.
2. Press < > to set the camcorder to Playback mode.
3. Touch [ ].
4. Camcorder: From any movie index screen, set the camcorder to connect with the
smartphone.
Drag your finger left/right to bring the [Wi-Fi] menu to the center, and then touch the
icon to open it.
5. Drag your finger up/down to bring [Playback via Browser] to the center, and then
touch [OK]
The camcorder's SSID (network name) and password will appear.
The camcorder will be ready to connect with the smartphone.
6. Smartphone/Computer: Activate Wi-Fi in the settings screen.
The network names of detected access points will appear.
7. Smartphone: Touch the access point with the same SSID as that of the one from step 4.
8. Smartphone/Computer: Enter the password (first time only).
[Connected] will appear on the camcorders screen and the connection will be
established.
NOTE
If you have performed the procedure to connect your smartphone and camera before, the
connection will be established automatically without entering the password.
9. Smartphone/Computer: Start the Web browser, and then enter the URL that appears on the
camcorders screen into the Web browsers address bar.
The Remote Browse screen will appear.
NOTE
The URL is always the same so you may find it convenient to bookmark the URL.
10. Smartphone: Touch on the upper left of the screen.
11. Smartphone: Touch the memory type.
12. Smartphone: Open the desired index screen
13. Smartphone: Touch the desired recording from the list.
For movies, the selected recording will start playing back. For photos, the photo will be
displayed.
NOTE
Smartphone: Touch to save the recording on the smartphone.
Smartphone: Touch when finished.
REFERENCE
The following types of MP4 scenes will be recognized as multiple files on other
devices.
- Scenes exceeding 4 GB
- Scenes recorded at 35 Mbps exceeding 30 minutes
- Scenes recorded at a video quality other than 35 Mbps exceeding 1 hour
14. Camcorder: Touch [End] when finished.
